I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

Just back from W5 R2, mildly concerned about R3, 20 mins! Will think positive thoughts and have a read back through the thread for some inspiration tomorrow.

Yes Fillyjonk, the music does get worse, I think maybe it spurs you on to finish the running and make it stop. I tried this music today and am not sure if it was better or worse.

Hope you have a great holiday Canella, am sure you'll be straight back into the running on your return

Nappy - I like the idea of the virtual 5k race, not sure I'll be ready by end Aug / Sept but will sign up for an autumn one if there is one.

Well done Zen, it does feel such an achievement when you think how recently 60 secs nearly killed you

tryingtocookacurry · 30/07/2009 08:31

well done Zen and everyone else.

Nappy, I feel exactly the same - still running 25 when I should be doing 30.

Can I add a hint please - do not try and run with a 4 pinter of milk, like I did this morning. No matter how much you ned a cup of tea when you get back!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 30/07/2009 10:11

ha ha at 4 pinter!!! i cant even run with a water bottle as the swishing sloping puts me off. I just lick my lips at regular intervals.

Was your milk still milk or butter by then lol?

Vulgar · 30/07/2009 19:11

I did 4k today after a session with my friend who happens to be a sports therapist. She's given me some stretches to do which I think willl really help as I am like a little old lady after a run and cannot get off the floor once I'm down on it.

I'm feeling much more positive about my progress now sign me up for the Mumsnet virtual run.

Having my own music has spurred me on . . .I, too had had enough of Rawb by week 6.

and to think we were all begging him to do a 5-10k podcast a few weeks ago

I think we are all doing splendidly

JackBauer · 30/07/2009 19:12

Still nothing. Dh doing really silly shifts so I keep missing my chance by not getting up at 5, and then he comes home early just as I've had a massive lunch...oops.

I would love a virtual run, I can manage 28-30 mins but can't get faster than 12.30 mins/mile, so woudl be left well behind by you lot! Even on my actual 5k I only managed 12.5 cos of the other people slowing me up

I don't run with water either, I just have clip on MP3 and round back of head earphones and a big bottle waiting on table for when I get home

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 30/07/2009 19:55

I wouldnt be able to run all a 5k park run but thought if i aimed to then if i only walk a little when then next on ocurs say quarterly eg dec time you could aim to beat your times and stuff as it looks like they put up all your detailso nthe website to name and shame you or encourage you .

You would need to look at your area nearest you and see when it is - i guess we probably wouldnt all get the sam weekend but we could aim for a 3 week deadline....

better?

That sounds good, and better if others are local, mine is cardiff but I need to wait for a day when DH is off and not on a rideout so I can escape for the day!

Wheelybug · 30/07/2009 20:06

Tentatively pokes head round door...

Hello ! I was on the original (I think) couch to 5K thread back in January 08. I did it and went on running (got up to over 10K) until I stopped in July 08 as I found out I was pg. DD2 born in March so now need to get back to it. Off on hols on saturday so planning on taking running kit and starting whilst I'm there (sad but dh will be around so good opportunity). Not sure whether to start the podcasts again as the music was so dire but the programme was so great at getting me running....

Anyone else done it before and started it again ?

IdrisTheDragon · 30/07/2009 22:33

DH got back early (7:30) so I dashed off running. Did 40 minutes and it was about 3.6 miles .

Am still hopeful for the 10k plan in October, although I fear everyone else will be a lot faster. Maybe I'll get a sympathy cheer at the end .

Just looked at the park runs website - I wish there were ones nearer here. Although looked at the nearest and there was a person who did 5k in 16 minutes .

tryingtocookacurry · 31/07/2009 08:58

wow - just got back! And I did 30 minutes today - really chuffed!

I downloaded some music from Itunes and have now been running to Abba. It's great!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 31/07/2009 09:06

tryingtocook have you goen onto week 7 now then or even further?

OP posts:
tryingtocookacurry · 31/07/2009 09:06

I did 2.46 miles in 30 minutes which works out as 12:11 minutes per mile.

tryingtocookacurry · 31/07/2009 09:07

Yes, I am on week 7.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 31/07/2009 09:07

wowzers Well done you!

OP posts:
tryingtocookacurry · 31/07/2009 09:10

Oh shit, no I'm not - I just looked. I shouldn't be doing 30 mins, I should be doing 25.

Ooh, I've gone wrong! Thats because I got rid of Rawb.

I should be running 2.5 miles in 25 mins.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 31/07/2009 09:16

Ha ha - well you have done it now!!! You wil have to keep doing 30 mins now ! Your Rocky!

OP posts:
tryingtocookacurry · 31/07/2009 09:20

Maybe, but I'm going to have to run a lot faster - which is not bloody possible!

And I feel like I am running so far away from home now - it only used to be round the corner, I'd be buggered now if Ihurt myself and had to hobble back!

lulalullabye · 31/07/2009 10:51

W3 r3 done. It has got easier but I am scared of W4 .
W7 feels like that is a loooooong way off !!

Anyhow, have to ice shin splint on l leg now , god I feel old !!

Montifer · 01/08/2009 18:28

Back from W5 R3 and failed
First time I've had to walk when I should be running, tried slowing to a snail's pace but had to stop at 10 mins and walk for a couple of minutes.
Awful podrunner didn't help either, might give Rawb another go!
Will have to try again on monday.
Anyone else had to have a few attempts to crack the 20 minute run? Wondered if I should do another W5 R2 before I try the 20 minute stint again.
Hope everyone else is running well

IdrisTheDragon · 01/08/2009 20:47

I made a tacical error. Went out running as it was starting to rain. Then it turned into monsoon like conditions. I had to stop to empty water from my trainers.

Not the best ever experience

JackBauer · 01/08/2009 20:54

DH has said he will take girls to park and for lunch tomorrow so am planning on running and then havign a bath (height of fecking luxury)
Might start again with wk5 or 6 though, which is better considering I have done one run in the last 2 weeks

Superduperloopthelooper · 01/08/2009 22:18

Montifer - I managed the 20 min but really struggled with the 25 min, it took me 3 attempts. I only managed it when I changed from Rawb to my own playlist because I stopped obsessing about how much longer I had to go based on Rawb's timechecks! Maybe stick with it but try your own music?

Jack - your plan sounds good ! I've been dragging my ds out on his bike with me since the holidays began. Think the novelty is beginning to wear off for him .

Am up to week 8 as of monday, am amazed that I have stuck with it so far, although it seems to have made absolutely no difference to my shape or weight..

JackBauer · 02/08/2009 20:21

Well, run went really badly, tried to do wk6r1 (5 run, 3 walk, 8 run, 3 walk and 5 run) and had to walk in the middle of the 8 min run
No more breaks!

Did manage a lovely bubbly bath with music on loudly, watched a bit of True Blood and then went for a walk to the shops for a paper. And then DH came back with exhausted happy kids. Brilliant!

Well done super, wk8 is as good as there! It may have made no discernable difference to weight/appearance but do you feel better? I have felt rubbish last few weeks, tired and just bleurgh, but today I am tired but feel sooomuch better for having run!
