I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

Yes i agree - i think i aimed for 45-50 mins but actually did it in 34 i think - that was with a few little walks as well. I just seemed to get carried along with the crowd and one woman kept overtaking me so i made it my thing to overtake her everytime she walked lol!. However long it takes its amazing and the atmosphere is great. I went along for a gentle jog with 2 friends but one of my friends from work i went with got us to the front of the runners to start then just as we were about to start she turned round like a true competetive psycho and growled "goodl uck ladies but remember its a feckin race" - then she burned us off - it was hillarious!

I have done it a few times before but without managing to do longer than a few weeks training. Last year was my best and I think it was about 36 min. So surely I can be quicker this year with all my training .

It's on 19th July

JackBauer · 07/07/2009 21:17

Ooh, mine ons 19th as well

Didn't get ouwas all planning to go out early before DH went to work, and then forgot to take my kit out of the tumble dryer, and I daren't run without my super duper bra so went back to bed instead.
Will go tomorrow, honest

(Am a bit scared now, canella, is this karma?)

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 07/07/2009 22:31

I'm intending to run early tomorrow morning. Shall see if my intentions actually work .

My RFL is in St Albans.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/07/2009 08:22

Have failed to run

tryingtocookacurry · 08/07/2009 08:30

Have also failed to run this morning. But i did do mon and tues so it felt like my body was screaming "no more" this morning.
Will run tomorrow!

InTheZenGarden · 08/07/2009 09:11

Supposed to be running tonight. But legs still killing from the weekend, it is going to be a struggle tonight. But I will do it It is only w1r2, can't really not do it, can I?

canella · 08/07/2009 11:15

now my turn to look menancingly!!!!!

GET OUT THERE AND RUN!!!

i'll be back!!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/07/2009 14:52

I might go tonight as DH says he'll be home "in good time" (meaning probably about 8 rather than 11).

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/07/2009 15:50

oh the excuses are rolling out lol! i am supposed to go tonight but have to work - was tempted to go in my running gear and run home but theres a good chance i will have to stand up and talk to 20 people in a parenting class so best not

OP posts:
InTheZenGarden · 08/07/2009 19:14

OK, here are my excuses not to go for a run:

  1. My legs are still killing me from hike on Sunday and run on Monday
  2. I've had a stupidly hectic day at work, all I want to do is slouch on the sofa
  3. The fabric has worn away on the heel of one trainer, so I have plastic rubbing against my heel

But I still went for the run!!!!

It felt a little easier than Monday's, but I still got out of breath, which Rawb said I shouldn't be doing

Hey ho, W1R2 done, nearly at the end of week 1!!!!!

canella · 08/07/2009 19:31

congrats zen!!! dont worry about being out of breath - i thought i was going to die the first week but it gets easier!

no more excuses nappy and rita!

i'm on w6r2 tom - think i'll say bye bye to rawb after that - think its just 25 min runs then!! OMG and OMG again!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/07/2009 20:19

Well done zen - i was always out of breath early on then i slowed down and it made a difference for me. Yes canella 25 mins then its 28 and 30 - im ditching him now as long as i keep track i have 2 x 25 min runs to go before going up to 28 mins and god help me to 30.

OP posts:
LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/07/2009 20:24

DH still not back. Hmmph.

Not sure I will run tonight as need to eat or will feel wobbly. And if I don't wait long enough after eating will get a stitch.

Montifer · 08/07/2009 22:00

Well done Zen, it does seem to get easier on the breathing front although I'm not convinced I'll ever be able to run and talk as Rawb suggests you should, if I can run and breathe without panting as if I'm about to expire I'll be happy.

Wow Canella, can't believe you're at 25 mins already!

Am due to start W4 tomorrow and knees are still really achey after 2 rest days. I had been running every other day and wonder if it was all too much for knees not having done running before. Muscles are fine it's definitely the joints Any advice anyone?

tryingtocookacurry · 09/07/2009 07:17

Well done Zen, it does definately get easier as the weeks go by. Week 1 is worse than any other week I reckon.

I did week 5 run 3 today - 20 mins it felt great! I thought my head would be ready to explode after 8 minutes but it was fine.
I don't think I could have run any more though. 20 mins was definately enough!

Thank you so much everybody for introducing me to Rawb - I never would have believed I could do this. I never thought I would actually enjoy it either - I didn't feel like running yesterday morning when I got up and was itching to go for a run all day then.

JackBauer · 09/07/2009 09:26

I feel safe coming back on the thread, went for a run today. I really need a shower but DH is fannying about working in the garage so I have to wait. Humph. I do feel so much better though!

No ieda how long as I can't find my watch, but I did my 2.5 mile route (wk8, have dropped rawb as it is just running straight now). I did stop twice instead of once, and a bit earliler than I normaly would, but I haven't been out since sunday.

Can't believe I have my race in 10 days! Aaagh!

canella · 09/07/2009 10:35

well done jack for running and nice to see you back!!

And huge CONGRATS curry - 20 mins feels like a huge achievement doesnt it!

rita hope you get out today - pesky dh - how dare he not come back on time!! does he not know you've running to do!

did w6r2 and said goodbye to rawb!! didnt even use him for the second 10 mins - had downloaded a podcast from the local radio station where i used to live in the UK - made the second 10 mins go so much faster! (i wasnt any faster but i wasnt so bored!)

need to do w6r3 tom - dh working at the weekend so no chance of going out then! a solid 25 mins - kind of dreading it but looking forward to the challenge at the same time! must be hooked!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 09/07/2009 10:56

Didn't go running last night and not sure when I will.

Where is your race Jack?

Have just got an iPod touch so am having fun trying it out

JackBauer · 09/07/2009 13:24

I have to say I am really enjoying going out early, I have to drag myself out of bed but it doesn't half set me up for the day, plus I can laze around now in teh knowledge that I have done my bit

Race is in Swansea, Rita....

Well done curry! I remember my 20 minute run, I didn't stop grinning for ages

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 09/07/2009 19:10

well done curry and all !

tonight not so good for me - did 25 mins run but after about 16 mins the urge to stop was overpowering so i walked for about 20 seconds and felt so bad for it - i then trotted on and then had another 30 second walk followed by at 21 minutes about a 40 second walk. I felt a bit dissapointed to be honest but my knees were just so tired. When i came in though i was very hot as it was a hot evening and i had to keep licking my lips to simulate a drink as i was gasping (i cant run with water in my hands). Thankfully my socks were soaked as was my vest and ermmm i wont be wearign light grey jersey tight fitting shorts again . My lazy arseness took my pass back down to 11:12 min miles.

can i ask a RFL question please. I'm doing it this sunday in newcastle with some friends. For various reasons no-one is coming to watch us which is fine as there are 7 of us. However i see there are no 'left luggage/baggage' type facilities. We're going on public transport, what does everyone do? Neighbour says forecast is for rain so we'll need to wear stuff to travel there and back, where do we put it all. Have done various runs before but there's always been somewhere to leave your stuff (usually baggage buses to take it to end of race) as this is a circular route round park no need for bus. What does everyone else do?
Thx

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 09/07/2009 20:12

all i took with me was a small bottle of water which i drank before the start - at the end you get a goody bag with a banana in it and a cereal bar and a bottle of water.

Ok, did W1 and on to W2 again, have been wearing my fantastic patella bands and so far no pain . I am excited, as I was really getting into it when I had to stop last time.

We are in Aus and I figure by the time I am doing 5k or more it will be lovely and sunny and may be brave enough to run in the daytime !!

Well done to everybody else, I will make it up there with the 25min runners soon

canella · 10/07/2009 09:32

morning!!
nappy i feel as disappointed as you this morn - only managed 23 mins - just could not keep going - thought my legs were going to drop! but thats still 3 mins more than i'd ever ran before and i had run yesterday as well (can you see i'm trying to boost myself!!)

will def enjoy the weekend rest - maybe i might be better on monday!!
