just to house the runners

is this thread only for serious runners or will 45 mins a few times a week round the park count?

Does anyone know of a run I could work towards (5 or 10k) which is completely off-road? I get shin splints running on tarmac.

CountessDracula · 22/04/2009 11:18

norky I have bircher muesli about an hour before I run (soak oats in water or apple juice overnight, mix with fruit and low fat yoghurt and I sprinkle a few grape nuts on the top to make it crunchy) or sourdough toast and peanut butter

Twink · 22/04/2009 17:08

CD, all are welcome here as everyone has started at the same level at some stage, even if it was years ago!

I can help you track down an off-road run but need to know what region you are in.

Thanks for missing me! I've been a bit quiet lately as dd & I nipped off on another holiday. But, I've still managed 3 runs of between 5 & 6 miles in my absence which is better than I've done in months :0

Still, I've got some training to do to match up with you guys, some fantastic runs going on!

Has anyone done a Rat Race before? I'm thinking of entering one as I've done other adventure races but I'm a bit worried I'll be out of my depth.

sfxmum · 22/04/2009 17:22

CD am doing the 5K at the Old Deer park in June I expect it will be off track

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 22/04/2009 18:21

really? Great, I will take a look, thanks!
I am in SW London (near Richmond Park) where I run. All the Richmond Park ones seems to be on road and grass

popsycal · 22/04/2009 19:50

I lan to run tmorrow - am on week 7 or 8 of couch to 5k but probably can do more than that (was running 10k before ds3) but sam being sensible

I will start my 10k programme 9thanks wallace) the week after next

popsycal · 22/04/2009 20:29

all you folks who have ipids - do you have the nike widget thingy?
I love mine

sfxmum · 22/04/2009 20:50

actually CD it well be a few laps around the Rugby field not quite sure

popsycal I run with an ipod but don't have the Nike gear, as I understand it you can get adaptor stuff for other shoes
so does it talsk to you while you run or does it just give you stats and appropriate music (like genius) as you go?

CD There are quite a few trail events coming up in and around London. Here are a few:

Peckham 10K

A charity run in Regents Park

Another charity run, this one is in aid of St Barts and the London Charity in Victoria Park, Hackney.

This 10k is in Richmond Park and describes itself as a trail run.

This one out at Camberley looks the most fun though, may even tempt me over that way.

Quite a few of the Race for Life series are on grass, my local one certainly is all grass.

hatwoman · 22/04/2009 22:49

Hi all. CD there's usually a race at Hampton Court - but I can;t remember what time of year or the distance. There's the Kingston 8 or 16 which they do every spring and autumn - part towpath part road. then there's the Hogsmill which iirc is epsom, and there's one in richmond park the name of which escapes me at the mo. let me see if I can find it.

hatwoman · 22/04/2009 22:51

you can search for events here

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2009 10:29

hi gang... i've been thinking. you know that coolrunnings guy, Rawb, with the voice? i really HATE his choice in music.

i'm sure one of you lot is some kind of gifted muso (we are a motely crew after all), has someone else yet come up with some better music that is timed to the runs?

AitchTwoOh · 23/04/2009 10:29

whoops, motley.

sfxmum · 23/04/2009 10:57

JustCallMeGoat · 23/04/2009 11:06

CountessDracula · 23/04/2009 11:52

I need a new mobile - can anyone recommend one that has gps or something that will do this?

popsycal · 23/04/2009 11:54

CountessDracula · 23/04/2009 12:45

yes

liath · 23/04/2009 12:56

Dh managed to download sports tracker software onto his Nokia phone which tells you distance, pace etc. It beeps every 500m apparently. Might get him to put it on mine.

JustCallMeGoat · 23/04/2009 12:57

liath i am trying to work up the courage to arrange to run round arthur's seat with you!

liath · 23/04/2009 13:09

I'm aiming to go round saturday if that's any use? Which side are you on?

JustCallMeGoat · 23/04/2009 13:19

hi, you can email me at sheherezadethegoat hotmail co uk

fishie · 23/04/2009 13:22

popsy and sfx please can you explain this nike thing and how it works with other shoes?

i am sick of map my run, it takes about 20 mins to do each time as i always vary route. and i am sure i go further as a lot of mine is under trees so you can't map the path properly.

went out on tuesday evening and it was too hot what am i going to do in summer?

norky have you been for your second run yet?
