Anyone doing it?

Either London or Edinburgh?

Anyone interested in a fitness / support thread?

I'm doing it for the 3rd time in May (missed last year, as it was the night DS was born!) and really looking forward to it, but feeling a bit more apprehensive, as I'm not as fit as I used to be!

OP posts:
morethanyoubargainfor · 12/05/2009 08:27

i tjought that to kiwi,(about being spoted!) although don't think anybody could miss us in our very gerrish pink and purple costumes!

We are counting down now as well, i am actually looking foward to it now.

GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY

arfur · 12/05/2009 11:03

I am absolutely wetting myself Im so terrified. Have got black toenails from the 20 miler and they are very tender so I am worried sick that I wont make it (am seriously considering carrying my flip flops with me in case my toes are too painful and I cant continue in my trainers) Good luck and well done everyone!

morethanyoubargainfor · 12/05/2009 13:27

ah yes the black toe nails! I have lost a few because of that too! the worring thing is the neew ones are coming through black as well, think i may have done some damage

We will all be absolutely fine and son be wondering what all the fuss was about!

arfur · 12/05/2009 14:14

Yes thanks MTYBF you are right - must be more positive!

bigTillyMint · 12/05/2009 16:07

Ooooh, sounds painful

Did you wear your usual sized trainers or get trainers a size bigger than usual? (I did and so far so good!)

I'm just wondering what we'll be doing for 3 hours between registering and setting off

mrspnut · 12/05/2009 16:08

On the actual night the atmosphere carries you along for much of the way and the miles you've already put in helps when you get to 22 miles and just want to lie on the floor and cry (can you tell I've walked it before )

Every volunteer along the route will be clapping you as you pass and the rush of emotion that it creates is like nothing else you'll experience. (I'm welling up now just remembering it).

Good luck and enjoy yourselves, and I may see some of you in the tent.

morethanyoubargainfor · 12/05/2009 17:45

BTM, the good thing is you can't actually feel it because you have killed off a few nerve endings!

I can't actually wear trainers so i am ong to be the only one there in my big walking boots! and yes they are just well worn normal size! (and i mean well worn, i wear and walk in them every day!)

bigTillyMint · 12/05/2009 18:06

OK, so I'll look out for the walking boots on Sat night!

Posey · 12/05/2009 18:16

So pleased to have spotted this thread...
I'm a volunteer this year after doing 4 moonwalks. I'm on the finish line (not sure how I managed to get such a good gig!) so rest assured I will be cheering each and every one of you home. It is the most completely exhilerating, knackering and totally emotional thing (well for me anyway).

Well done to all of you for doing it.
See you on Saturday

morethanyoubargainfor · 12/05/2009 18:40

so what do i need to look out for you then BTM?

whooosh · 12/05/2009 18:43

I have four very good friends walking and I want to go along to "cheer tem on" (and everyone else) but would also like to be at the finish line-any tips on how to get there or is it just sheer madness to contemplate it?

kiwibella · 12/05/2009 21:41

thanks mrspnut

You girls and your blackened toe nails frighten me!!! omg... a little panicked now . Watched a few clips on youtube today from previous events - very motivating.

bigTillyMint · 13/05/2009 09:47

arfur · 13/05/2009 10:08

morethanyoubargainfor · 13/05/2009 16:09

morethanyoubargainfor · 13/05/2009 16:10

BTM thats not fair! my walking boots are going to make me stand out like a sore thumb! decorated bra is just going to make you feel part of the crowd

Black toe-nails?? Gah, I'm obviously not trying hard enough

I'm really looking forwards to it too - although my half decorated bra is giving me hard stares...

Will be looking out for walkers with fruit shoots in their bumbags

bigTillyMint · 14/05/2009 09:21

Hey, that's it!

Mummsnetters secret sign is a fruit shoot!(filled with water, of course )

morethanyoubargainfor · 14/05/2009 09:30

why don't we have a greggs sausage roll as well, just to make sure!

funnypeculiar · 14/05/2009 14:19

Damn, ds ditched our last frootshott bottle (filled with water of course at school trip yesterday. Not sure I could buy frootshoots JUST on the off chance of a mn spotting me

kiwibella · 14/05/2009 18:32

give it a go FP... I think it's a hilarious idea!!!

Anyone checked the weather forecast . I'm already suffering a heavy cold

I love youtube... had a nosey the other night. I think it's a good idea to take lots of snaps on the way around for memories.

Can't wait really .

Posey · 15/05/2009 17:42

Not sure where everyone is travelling from but...according to the walkthewalk forum there is a strike on east midlands trains on Sunday and then a limited service after 1pm
I've checked and it is true. My poor sister and friends are hopefully trying to plan an alternative route home.

So just thought I should warn you.

funnypeculiar · 15/05/2009 20:16

Right, I have a very important question for any seasoned moonwalkers. Is there anywhere nearby ish that will be open for breakfast? I know they have food stalls, but dh, the kids & my mum are coming in to meet me, and we were planning a lovely celebration breakie. Then we realised that not many places will be open at 7am on a sunday morning ... and by the looks of the weather forecast, a picnic ain't in order.

Thoughts anyone??

mrspnut · 15/05/2009 22:46

OH did find somewhere near our hotel but it was later than 7am tbh, we stayed at the holiday inn at mayfair which is on the corner of piccadily and berkeley street. I think he went to either mayfair place or stratton street near Green park tube for his food. I laid on the bed unable to move for the pain.
