Anyone doing it?

Either London or Edinburgh?

Anyone interested in a fitness / support thread?

I'm doing it for the 3rd time in May (missed last year, as it was the night DS was born!) and really looking forward to it, but feeling a bit more apprehensive, as I'm not as fit as I used to be!

Well done Btm! I think my legs would be aching too. I had to go to hosp yest cos dr thought my have Dvt, but it was ok, legs were really swollen after all the walking and flying, all is well today though so starting my training tomorrow, hope they don't swell up again

arfur · 08/03/2009 00:36

BTM - wasnt so much thinking of sleeping more like just lounging around watching tv or reading. Just dont want to end up stressed about getting there on time etc and rushing around with trains etc, want to be as calm and relaxed as possible - can you tell I'm v anxious about it all!?!

wiffey · 08/03/2009 08:42

It's a bit of both btm, depends how we can juggle work, child care, dh's being home

Haven't actually managed to get out yet as have loads of course work to do, it's taking longer than I thought & has a bit more priority at the moment

Will try and do a short fast one in a bit but going to firends for a nice roast beef dinner as well !!!

marg1066 · 08/03/2009 18:40

Hi Arfur, if you are going to try and get a cheap hotel/bb I would do it as early as possible, the cheaper ones will be snapped up very quick. I'm in Motherwell, just outside Glasgow, my hubby is going to stay in Edinburgh all night mainly to support me as I'm doing it alone, so I'm quite lucky it's just under an hours drive. If you ring the Tourist information they will send you a list of hotels/bb's, good luck.

arfur · 09/03/2009 00:03

Probably should have mentioned I'm doing London but thanks anyway Marge1066! DId 10 miles today but took 3 hours which is a way too slow gonna have to speed up

marg1066 · 09/03/2009 10:04

Sorry Arfur, don't know why I thought it was Edinburgh! I just started training today and was slower than what I thought I'd be, my calf muscles are quite sore today, so I better step up the mark.

bigTillyMint · 09/03/2009 14:35

Well done Marg for getting started!

I found lots of aches and pains when I first started, but they have gone now - probably because I have been trying to remember to do those stretching exercises!

But I had very tight calf muschles after the 14miler - Deep Heat did the trick, and the smell got rid of the kids

marg1066 · 09/03/2009 16:53

Thanks Btm, hope I can beat my time tmrw, and I'll be getting stocked up on deep heat!

funnypeculiar · 09/03/2009 23:04

Welcome arfur and welcome back marg & well done for getting out

We did a lovely 10 miler at the weekend - lots through woods which was beautiful ... although all the hills rather slowed us down ;-) 18 miles planned for this weekend - that feels seriously long!

We've got some local mates doing the training too & discovered to our terror that they were doing 10 mile walks in 2 hours (takes us more like 2 1/2) so that put the willies up us quite effectively

bigTillyMint · 10/03/2009 08:03

What

10miles in 2 hours!!!! That's 12min miles! I can't even keep up with 5miles in an hour in the gym!

Oh well, each to their own

funnypeculiar · 10/03/2009 10:24

Thanks for the shock bigTillymint - makes me feel better!

wiffey · 10/03/2009 11:06

2 hrs don't see that happening down here in the west country, far slower pace I'm afraid !!

Haribosmummy · 10/03/2009 11:10

Hi guys!!

How is everyone? Has anyone ever done (or is contemplating) doing the moonwalk while PG?

I will be around 6 months pregnant in May and really unsure whether I should continue training (am planning the full marathon)

I also have a place on the half marathon in Edinburgh in June, but I think that's really a bit too late, so am going to have to pull out of that one

Still think I'd be OK for the May walk though? Would appreciate opinions!

HM

Congratulations!

Is it your first or do you have some idea of how big you will be by then? I was pretty big at 6 months and I don't think I could have walked 26 miles in the night, but you may be much smaller and fitter than me

Maybe you could attempt the half moon in London if not - surely they would let you ttry that given your condition!

Haribosmummy · 10/03/2009 12:33

Thanks!!

Well, it's my third moonwalk and second child (but first moonwalk since becoming a mum, IYSWIM!)

I was pretty small with DS until about 3 weeks before he was born and am not showing at all with this one, so I think I'll be not too big.... I'm reasonably fit... so think that should be OK too...

I'm afraid I've tried Walkthewalk and they won't let me change to the half marathon. it's the whole thing or nothing... DH did suggest that I just start and then stop after 13 miles, but it's not in my nature... once I start, I will have to finish it!!

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 10/03/2009 13:08

That's a shame about not letting you change - I would have thought that was a pretty special circumstance.

But good on you for wanting to give the whole thing a go - it sounds like you might not get too big. It's a good incentive not to eat for two, anyway

bigTillyMint · 10/03/2009 13:10

Just read your first post - your two will be very close in age? You're doing really well getting out to train with a LO

Haribosmummy · 10/03/2009 14:21

Errr.. yes... VERY close and VERY unplanned Not unwelcome though!!

I have a backpack (karrimor) for the little one... We're getting used to it and it has a sun and rain cover with it too..

For anyone struggling to get out to train, I suggest you get a chocolate labrador (or, any 30Kg+ dog will do if you don't have a labrador to hand) who acts like a canine wrecking ball unless walked for several hours each day

morethanyoubargainfor · 10/03/2009 16:41

I think that helps haribosmummy, i don't have a lab but do have a curly coated retriever who enjoys his walks, he def gives me motivotion on the rainy days! we have managed about 5 miles today so happy with that!

Congratulations aswell, and i take my haat of to you contemplating doing it at 6 months gone, as i know i would have pulled out, because like you if i start it i have to finish and i was 5 stones heavier when i was 6 months pregnant and couldn't find any shoes to fit so was also bare foot from about the same time

wiffey · 10/03/2009 18:26

Are any of you taking extra vitamins or supplements etc ?

I've been feeling really tired alot of the time, which I don't think is just the training as work is a bit manic as well but a friend said it might be worth while trying a vitamin or similar ??

Well done on your distances everyone, I'm going to try for my 12 again this weekend, going to have a go at 6 interval tomorrow with a friend, tried it on 3 last night and was not any quicker but more knackered

And haribo fair play to you if you can do it, walking to the village high street was a struggle when 6 months but I was HUGE, I like my babies 9lb+

morethanyoubargainfor · 10/03/2009 18:51

not taking any extra vitamins, but i am eating meals everyday, which is pretty much unheard of for me. .

Not that is actually helpful to you! but you do have to make sure you have enough fuel to burn or you probably will become ill very quickly! trust me i know!

bigTillyMint · 11/03/2009 16:38

No vitamins or anything - you shouldn't need them if you eat a healthy balanced diet. Are you eating enough?

What kind of tiredness is it? Is it the my limbs are exhausted type, or I'm mentally shot?

Are you getting enough sleep?

The walking makes me feel better - more alert, etc - if you are inexplicably very tired, maybe you should go to see the GP?

wiffey · 11/03/2009 19:47

I think it's a bit of all btm !! The legs ache a bit which is to be expected & I stand at work on 5 hr shifts. There is also the small factor of running around after a potty training toddler and a nearly 12 year old who can only do 1/2 of any job asked I'm sleeping really well for a change it's just that I'm pooped by the end of the day. I may run it past the GP.

I'm really quite enjoying the training and do feel alot better in myself, also managed to kick start my weight loss after having got in a bit of a rut with it.

Haribosmummy · 11/03/2009 20:47

I def. second the 'go to your GP if inexplicably tired'... I did that last week and found out I was 18 weeks PG

Oooh congratulations Haribo! Was it a surprise or planned?

I'm now getting worried that this thread is turning into a "do the Moonwalk and you'll fall pregnant!" thread, after two announcements!
