I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Did my run and it was all right .

Thought about stopping during the first 5 min run but kept going and felt very please with myself.

Chinwag · 10/05/2009 12:25

Sweetkitty, I am doing the Bupa plan, because it moves you through slowly. Most plans expected too much to begin with, I thought.

www.bupa.co.uk/health_information/html/healthy_living/lifestyle/exercise/running/beginner_5km.html

I went out this morning, hoping to improve on my 7 minutes, maybe get to 8, but when I got there I decided I could keep going. I ended up doing the whole route without stopping!! 25mins!! Yey. Seriously proud of myself! Got leg ache now though!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 10/05/2009 12:54

oooooooo rita you hero! i am going to do mine tonight (well after tea which will be a light one!!) I feel terified about it lol!

jofeb04 · 10/05/2009 14:19

Can I join in please?

I've never ran (love walking though - lots of hikes), and feel that this is something that I want to at least try!

I need to loose wieght, but more importantly, I want my fitness levels to increase.

I found a link to the Couch to 5K, and downloading Week One right now :-)

Just need to do it now!

sweetkitty · 10/05/2009 22:38

Did w2r2 today and OMG got a stitch, I am so unfit, also felt really self concious (spp?) running about the streets round here, the park is about a 10-15 min drive away though but loads of runners will have to go there again, also thinking about joining the gym. One of my main problems is that weekends is the only time I will get to run outside as DH doesn't get home to 7pm most nights. DH also needs to run at weekends as well, so difficult trying to fit it all in with everything else going on to.

Skimummy · 11/05/2009 10:14

I did w2r1 last night...not too bad but amazed that an extra 30 seconds running feels sooooo long! The podcasts are really excellent for this type of thing.

I know what you mean about feeling self-conscious sweetkitty but, like you, me going for a run requires such precise timing that I don't have time to think about it! We are near the river though so I don't have to go far to get on the path where there are plenty of other people running, walking dogs etc.

I am going once on the weekend and then twice during the week when DH gets home (usually after 7pm). It's working alright so far.

NorkyButNice · 11/05/2009 10:51

I just got back from w4r1 and nearly died on both of the 5 minute runs! On the last one I was telling myself "just make it to that bench/lamp-post/dog/tree then you can stop" - somehow I did them all but felt really sick at the end.

Is there a point where it stops being difficult and becomes enjoyable?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 11/05/2009 12:13

norky i wimped out of w4 r1 last night - determined to go out tonight - errr you have made me a worry wort now though! If i dont post tomorow i am probably dead.

ShrinkingViolet · 11/05/2009 12:18

oh I was going to start week 4 tonight, but wasn't sure as week 3 was bloody difficult a bit hard, but thought I might persevere with Raaawb and his running alongside me. Am undecided now - another one or two w3 runs, or move to w4....

NorkyButNice · 11/05/2009 12:44

To be honest I think the jump from 3 to 5 minutes will be hard however many w3 runs you've done - so just give it a go and see how bad or good it is!

My thinking was, even if I only managed one of the two 5 minutes, that was better than none. And I survived! So will both of you - I look forward to hearing your reports later

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 11/05/2009 12:54

COME ON SHRINKING LETS DO IT!!! I am going to go about 6pm so i miss the kids crabby time .

ShrinkingViolet · 11/05/2009 13:15

OK, you're on. I'll be out tonight between 7 and 8 as DD2 has a club, and otherwise I'll just sit around with the other parents and drink hot chocolate. Trouble is the park near where we're going is all hills, and I don't really know the area that well, so it'll have to be run along the main road for the first half, then turn back to do the second half, so it's all very public . So if anyone sees a poor sod with a bright red face running very slowly tonight along the A25, that'll be me .

ShrinkingViolet · 11/05/2009 13:20

I definitely have to do week 4 now as I've taken week 3 off my MP3 player and put week 4 on there - can't have more than one thing on it as I can't work it properly, and kept on ending up having to run to Barbie Girl rather than Raawb (it was DD3s MP3 player which I've stolen borrowed)

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 11/05/2009 17:04

shrinking i have also deleted week3 and uploaded wk 4 now! I have however just had steak and onion rings for tea without thinking of the repeating on me factor!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 11/05/2009 18:52

OK im done - the first 5 mins was a long one and i kept getting a stitch but i plodded on - i admit i had about 3 4second walks in between them but i did have a stitch - i also had some steak stuck in my tooth which was a great source of irritation . ANyway its done and i survived so im sure you will too Shrinking. Good luck x

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 11/05/2009 18:53

also raaaaaaaaaaawb is a pita - im sure he laughs when he says take it easy as you have plenty more runnign to do - i have started talking back to him now and cursing him

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 11/05/2009 20:19

Well done nappyzone

Have no idea when I am going to run this week - I am working out of the house 4 days (am usually SAHM) and do two of my runs when DD is at pre-school. Think I might try and do a run after work, but as I listen to my ipod into London and back am worried the batteries will go. And that my own personal batteries will go .

Am working on Sunday so will definitely run on Saturday but need to do two other runs (and the one other day I'm not working this week, DD doesn't go to pre-school).

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 11/05/2009 20:24

ah your reminded me - as i started the 5 min cool down at end i went to switch on my own slow tune for the walk back and my mp3 turned off - battery deead - perfect timing though . I really enjoyed my long soapy bath afterwards.......

SVioletdidnotwimpoutofweek4 · 11/05/2009 22:47

ha, I made it through w4r1 . The music suddenly got better in the second 5 minute run, and finished up looking like a combination of and . Admittedly I did focus on not letting Nappyzone do it and me wimping out , but I ran on grass tonight which helped a lot (annoyingly I don't think I can do that more than once a week). I can't believe I thought the second 3 minutes run was quite short .
Well done Nappyzone, and everyone else - if I can get to week 4 (from being unable to walk briskly for 5 minutes and not get out of breath), then anyone can [weirdo Californian motivational-speak emoticon]

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 12/05/2009 11:50

Well done SVioletdidnotwimpoutofweek4 - love the new name! i feel a bit tired legged today so will probably ache alot later on! My friend has just text to see if i want to sign up for local race for life on 14 June or it might have been the 20th - either way im a bit unsure i will be capable by then but she did say we didnt have to run it all hmmmm

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 12/05/2009 12:58

Oh lordy what have i done! just signed up for racefor life - its the 14th June - im now full of dread - hope its not a hot sticky day!

sweetkitty · 12/05/2009 21:34

I did walk for 5 mins, run1m, jog1m for 20 mins then 5 min walk, feeling it tonight though how unfit must I be?

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 12/05/2009 21:57

Just came back from doing W4R2

Was at work all day and got back about 8:30. Said to DH "when we I fit all my runs in for this week?" and he said "Why not go now?"

So I went out at 9:15. For some odd reason decided to keep going after the last 5 min run and did 8.5 min. Feel very athletic

NorkyButNice · 13/05/2009 08:55

I'm due to go and due W4R2 today - I'm still really struggling to get motivated as I know I'm going to hate every minute of it!

Can someone further along the path cast any light on when it gets more enjoyable and less like torture?

AitchTwoOh · 13/05/2009 10:38

who's doiing the bupa thing rather than Rawb's ghastly music? i'm frightened about going from three mins to five...
