I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

well done ComparetheMeerkat - I've just done w2r3 and will be givng week 3 a bash tomorrow evening (that's the best I can manage by way of a day off) - but no way could I just have "added in" three minutes at the end just now.
notoverit - right click on the podcast you want, and save it to your computer. Then download it to your MP3 player as normal (i had to get DD1 to download mine as I don't understand how it works - I can only have the one podcast on there at a time as I can't make it fast forward to the next track )

notoverit · 03/05/2009 20:35

i have now down loaded them thank you.

Also I bopught a pair of running trainers today, so as soon as I am settleled in where I am moving to I will be starting running.

Unforntuntly I have not got the internet sorted where I am moving to so hopefully I will get it sorted so I can come online to discuss how its going.

Also I am trying to rope my brother into running with me...

Skimummy · 04/05/2009 17:32

Alright then, I have been inspired also - did W1R1 this afternoon! Time to shift my remaining baby belly...maybe...anyway, running for 60 seconds on 90 seconds on was definitely manageable but not sure about anything beyond that. Rob (43 year old guy from Northern California) does not share my taste in music but the podcast certainly worked for me.

Hopefully this thread will keep me honest and help me finish this program!

ShrinkingViolet · 04/05/2009 20:08

well week 3 is MUCH easier than week 2 . Apart from the dismal 5 minute warm up music (what on earth was that about - isn't it supposed to be upbeat and inspiring?).
I didn't feel all red and sweaty till 1 minute into the second 3 min run, but then did the last 2 mins without really thinking about what I was doing, just putting one foot in front of the other - wouldn't go so far as to say I was enjoying it, but it wasn't the hard slog last week was. Go me

LovelyRita · 04/05/2009 23:24

Have changed my name (was CompareTheMeerkat). May well go back to that soon .

Did W3R1 yesterday morning and it was OK (although I preferred week 2). Will do my second lot tomorrow

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 05/05/2009 10:04

Have run Didn't exactly enjoy the first 3 min run but the second one was better. Have never gone as far as week 4 before (have always just stopped) so am cautiously looking forward to next week (of course do need to do one more week 3 run first).

Chinwag · 05/05/2009 17:12

I have just plucked up the courage, and booked Race For Life!! Yikes!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 05/05/2009 20:39

I hadnt ran for over a week and tongiht went out and did r2w3 - i expected outof breath to be a problem after such a break (i had a cold so wimped out all week) anyhow i didnt get out of breath but boy it hurt - the impact on my ankles really ached and hurt so i was almost hobbly running - whats that all about? i was slooooooooooow and finished but feel a bit for beign hurty...

sweetkitty · 05/05/2009 20:45

hello can I join your thread, I have signed up for Race for Life on 7th June, have never ran in my life and spent 7 months last year unable to walk due to SPD. I don't need to lose weight but am so flabby and unfit. I am following the run some, jog some plan.

BillSilverFoxBuchanan · 05/05/2009 20:54

I have been avoiding this thread for the last couple of weeks due to injury but am glad to hear that you're all doing well

I've had knee/shin problems for a while, and have been going out in spite of these. Having really hurt myself during week 4 I've had to admit temporary defeat and have been resting for a week (or three).

I'm hoping that going back to basics and starting again from week 1, then building up gradually/resting at the first sign of twinges helps.

I have the race for life in two weeks but obviously won't be running it

NorkyButNice · 06/05/2009 09:27

Please may I join you all? I've been posting on the runners thread as I found it first, but I think this is my spiritual home

I did w3r2 last night and managed to get through it OK - I can't imagine being able to step up to 5 minutes running though - how much of a big jump is it?

chelseamorning · 06/05/2009 13:40

I've just signed up for a Race for Life on 14 June - can I please join too?! I'm determined to run the race, rather than wimp out and walk it, and hopefully with a decent time too!

I need a new pair of running trainers. Any recommendations please as to where to buy, without having to pay the earth?

ShrinkingViolet · 06/05/2009 18:41

badly misjudges my timings tonight and ended up with the last 3 minute run (w3r2) all being uphill - failed dismally, and only managed run 1 min, walk 1 min, run 1 min. But my knee's been hurting a lot when I run - I think I'm twisting it as I land - so I need to sort that out. Might need to repeat some of week 3 as if I can't manage two 3 min runs, I'm going to struggle with week 4

Skimummy · 06/05/2009 20:57

Everyone is doing great!

I did my second run today...it was actually OK. Maybe I can go longer than 60 seconds!

ShrinkingViolet I think the program allows for repeats of runs if you don't think you are ready for the next stage. Might just be a bad night though?

Chelseamorning you could try Decathlon? They usually have good trainers on sale. Also Sports Direct. If in central London (and you can bear it) - Lillywhites!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 07/05/2009 19:20

went out tonight - r3w3 and feel wrecked - kept up with the runs but am as red as a tomato. Dare not even look at week 4 - i did a few weeks back and it looked confusing - is it?

kittywise · 07/05/2009 19:51

hello all, glad to see some familiar faces and some new ones too!!

Hope you are all making great progress. I'm trying to think when I finished this, must have been in March? Well I'm now up to 10k, thanks to this thread

Keep going all of you

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 08/05/2009 12:27

Hello

Did W3R3 this morning and managed it all right, even though it rained and was windy and there were large dogs.

Not sure how week 4 will be - was adding up and there will be 16 minutes of running . Will try and pick a day when it isn't pouring with rain.

chelseamorning · 08/05/2009 13:13

Thanks, Skimummy.

10k kittywise?! There's hope for me then. I'd love to get back into running again. Have you lost much weight or is it mainly toning?

kittywise · 08/05/2009 16:43

Hi Chelsea, it's more a general fitness/toning/ energy/de-stress thing with me.
I listen to books on my ipod now when I run!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 08/05/2009 19:11

Lovelyrita i figured that too - i am quite daunted by it..... when you planning on making your leap into week 4? I am thinking Saturday or Sunday eek

Skimummy · 08/05/2009 20:47

Week 1 done - yay! Is it normal to be terrified about the next week?! DH has been most supportive which makes me think he has been keen for me to do some kind of exercise for a while...he has been on a massive fitness kick since DD was born so it was only a matter of time before I decided I needed to do something as well!

Fun running everyone!

goblincandoa5k · 09/05/2009 10:39

Hi all,

I'm back and have just finished week 6

I still can't quite believe that i ran contiuously for 25mins Onto wk 7 here i come !

Congrats to all those that have joined and are doing so well. Sometimes it can be a real slog, but stay with it - it does get easier

Chinwag - great news on doing the Race for Life, mine's on 28th June when's yours? How are the 5min runs coming ? or have you breezed onto 10

Have a great weekend running

Chinwag · 09/05/2009 11:36

Hi Goblin. Good to hear from you. Mine is the 24th June; I'm running it with DD2 (8) so I won't be able to push myself too much.

Haven't quite 'breezed' onto 10 mins, but have now got onto 7!! I am quite pleased with myself!! The R4L is quite an incentive to improve though.

25 mins is seriously impressive! Well done you....

sweetkitty · 09/05/2009 16:39

hi all training has went a bit awol, couldn't get out last night as DP was home late and it was really pouring down, today I have migraine and period cramps (first period since Oct 2007)

What training plan is everyone following? I am doing the Race for Life walk some, run some.

Am also thinking of joining the local gym to get some training done on the treadmill

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 09/05/2009 23:08

My RFL isn't until 19th July, but am hoping to be happily running 5k by then [optimistic ].

Am planning to start w4 tomorrow. Still not sure about the 5min and 3 min runs - it will be 16 min running altogether and all the other weeks have been 9 min run altogether...
