giddykipper · 01/01/2009 09:08

I WILL NOT nesh out again like I did last time.

DP has even bought me an iPod Shuffle to run with so that I don't have to lug my big iPod around (oh the inconvenience).

this is what I'm talking about and here's the podcasts I run to.

I'm not starting today though, got about 3 hours sleep last night.

Excellent idea for a roundup. I have wondered who was where!
I have gone and ordered some running gear( tights and tops), power gel stuff and bought some new shoes yesterday, they cost £70 So now I am broke but will run like the bionic woman

BrownSuga · 26/02/2009 14:00

What is this power gel stuff you speak of?

lexcat · 26/02/2009 14:04

Brownsuga very nice work I great to see what we're all doing. Plus I don't feel so bad as I'm doing better then I thought.

Giddykipper really great to hear from you what's stopping you starting the plan now. It really is great. It gets easier to find the time once you get use to making the time for yourself. Plus you have created a great support group here.

Well done to everyone and all their progress keep it up. Just remember we are all willing to have a go which is more then alot of people could say.

kittywise · 26/02/2009 14:12

brownsuga www.discount-supplements.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=6852 dunno if it will work but I need it to

kittywise · 26/02/2009 18:04

Hey ladies I did it!!!

I went out today, listened to a book on my ipod and ran for 30 mins without stopping!! I worked out that it was 3 miles which is about 5k!!

I can't quite believe it and I didn't feel too bad!

How has everyone else got on?

What am I supposed to do now?

BrownSuga · 26/02/2009 18:06

Kitty you've achieved the goal, you can return to sitting on the couch now

Well done! erm, seriously, I think just keep going, some have suggested going from 5km to 10km as a goal.

giddykipper · 26/02/2009 18:45

Right, I will go out tonight.

I can't got out until about 9pm though to let my dinner go down.

Kitty I'm so proud of you.

kittywise · 26/02/2009 19:10

Thanks Giddy, well if it wasn't for you I would still be feeling sh*t and unfit, so bless you

brownsuga yes a celebratory red wine is in order

I've thought about doing 5-10k but can't find any programmes anywhere. Do you know of any?

mileniwmffalcon · 26/02/2009 19:29

lol @ going back to the couch congratulations kitty you must feel like a million dollars. the podrunner pocasts go up to 10k.

i have a question about pace (to anyone who cares to answer). when you're running could you actually hold a conversation? maybe it's cos i'm so massively unused to aerobic exercise but i'm really puffed all the way round - not totally out of breath, but very little to spare. should i be cutting my pace right back, or will my lungs catch up eventually?

mileniwmffalcon · 26/02/2009 19:30

btw yay for getting out again gk - we'll all be sat here waiting for an update later on

Mithered · 26/02/2009 19:33

Well done Kitty you have done brilliantly and have inspired me to keep going along with everyone else.

I did run 2 wk 6 today with my friend. I couldn't hold a conversation towards the end but neither could she so I felt OK about it. I can't say I am looking forward to 25 minutes but if I can do am sure I can manage another 5. Am planning my route though carefully to make sure any hills are at the beginning (does that count as cheating?)

DrTrillianAstra · 26/02/2009 20:50

Yay, well done kitty!

Giddykipper we will be watching you now to make youre you don't 'nesh out again'!

Pennies · 26/02/2009 21:44

Yay! Well done Kittywise - that's fantastic.

I haven't run this week due to dodgy knee but am thinking that these early morning with tweeting birds are looking like they might be lovely times to go out.

Will try my final attempt at W5R3 this weekend. If that doesn't work I'll move onto W6 and see how that goes.

giddykipper · 26/02/2009 21:46

I did it, even went out in the wind and the rain. And I swear at one point I could hear some urchins behind me but there was noone there. I think I could have run for more than a minute too, which is encouraging. I'll do another week 1 run this weekend then if that seems OK I'll advance to week 2 next week.

OP posts:
Pennies · 26/02/2009 21:47

Excellent, Giddykipper - well done and glad to have you back on board. You've a lot to answer for by starting this thread!

Mithered · 26/02/2009 21:49

Well done! GK you started all this off. Keep us updated on how you get on.

Pennies - Are you repeating all of week 5 or just the big run? If so why don't you move onto week 6 now and see how you get on. I did my 20 minute run and struggled towards the end but have done r1 and r2 on week 6 and feeling motivated for r3 (25 mins)

giddykipper · 26/02/2009 21:56

I know this is probably considered sacrilege but I'm really sick of the podcasts. I'm desperate to get to 5k so that I can listen to what I want to. Why has someone not done a podcast that isn't set to dance music?

OP posts:
Pennies · 26/02/2009 21:58

Mithered - just R3 and then onto W6 no matter what the outcome.

GK - I love the dance music, I just get into a zone with it and it makes me feel mentally younger than the my actual body feels whilst trying to get through the bloody runs!

Mithered · 26/02/2009 22:11

GK I like the dance music although week 4 was dire IMO.
Pennies - Good luck for your run at the weekend. let us know how you get on and remember pace doesn't matter it is getting used to running for that length of time

mileniwmffalcon · 26/02/2009 23:03

i'm looking forward to the longer runs when i prolly will use my own music. i don't really mind the podrunner ones tbh, i like how he puts a little rushy bit towards the end of the long runs, tells you there's about a minute to go

more to your taste gk?

DrTrillianAstra · 26/02/2009 23:06

I'm listening to Rawbert of the Quorn , might try these podrunner ones just for a bit of variety when I'm doing 3 runs the same.

kittywise · 26/02/2009 23:06

yay, well done giddy, how are you feeling?

I know what you mean about the music. I liked the fact that I had his voice to encourage me but I wish I could have put it to music of my choice.
I suppose it's meant to get you going. Saying that I managed the 5k today immersed in an audiobook.
I think it was easier to run listening to that as I was concentrating on the story and not how crap was feeling! Normally I would be thinking "please can this be over soon so I don't have to listen to this rubbish any more"

mileniwmffalcon · 26/02/2009 23:11

or this one? (not sure this one has any cues, didn't listen to it long enought to find out!)
