I can't find the old one in Health, and we deserve to be in brand new shiny Sport and exercise anyway

Think having a few days off did me good, Enjoyed a great run yesterday, raining and six inches of mud everywhere!

hatwoman · 21/12/2008 21:59

hello everyone. this is a haven of sanity among all the moldie uproar. I think I'll stick to logging in every few days to talk to you lot (and checking out my doggy friends if they're around...) I've been a bit lax recently - had a cold which put me off my stride and then only managed 3 runs this week. today was 7 miles so that's respectable. am beginning to think that it's time to look up and decide on my marathon schedule. not sure what time to aim for. maybe 4 and a half...hope everyone's ok

fishie · 22/12/2008 15:02

hello hatwoman and everyone else. i did 10k in 1 hour exectly yesterday, am running out of places to go! can't bear to go twice round other route which is other option.

staying with parents over xmas, there is choice of big hill or lots of mud so i think will stick to taking various children for walks.

MrsWednesday · 22/12/2008 23:24

I didn't

Porridge thwarted by DH who accidentally defrosted red wine instead of pureed blackcurrant and poured it all over mine, his and DS1's.

After that incident and ensuing argument I gave up and went to Asda instead!

Will have to go at the weekend now, which is really too long between runs.

TinyWhiteFeather · 23/12/2008 07:09

Am really too busy and tired to run much but should be freer after today. Might get out tonight. Will probably need to.

Could take DS on his bike, but that means running hard and fast as he forgets wheels are easier than legs.

sparklyxmasfairy · 23/12/2008 09:10

hi all

hatwoman the moldie stuff is funny I have been around a few years ans just get on doing my own thing regardless of changes.

mrsW easy mistake I guess hope you manage to go out soon

fishie that sounds pretty good

last time I went out was Saturday, ill health and family Christmas stuff got in the way today we are driving up north so it may well be the weekend before I manage to go out again

wishing you all good running, and a Happy Christmas see you soon

OrmIrian · 23/12/2008 17:54

I agree hatwoman - the moldie stuff is so sad. 8 miles on Sunday. Hoping to do that again tomorrow - can't normally run during the day in the week but I've got some time off.

HarktheHarrogateMumissinging · 23/12/2008 19:43

Mrs Wednesday I am like you - I havent been for 2.5 weeks and have kind of resigned myself now to waiting until after Christmas - I am just not a hardened enough runner in the winter! You cant stop me in the summer but this time of year I just struggle to motivate myself to get out there. Still that 10k on Feb 1st should get me out of the door straight after Crimbo!

TinyWhiteFeather · 23/12/2008 20:40

Didn't make it today . I am sooo tired. Would probably feel better if I got out but am nearly crawling around.
Definately going out tomorrow even if there is a blizzard.

fishie · 23/12/2008 21:04

just half an hour tonight but v smug since working quite hard this week as well as usual xmas stuff. i found it weather too warm, you summer runners! i love having to go faster to keep warm for the first bit.

hawesmead5 · 23/12/2008 22:50

I only made half an hour tonight too, but was quite pleased as I managed to run 4 miles in that time I'm now officially ready for my Christmas slob out!

TinyWhiteFeather · 24/12/2008 14:24

Finally managed to get out. Steady run and not a spectacular time but 'road-testing' my leg.
Not so brilliant but manageable if I keep it steady and actually got easier as I ran more.

ambercat · 26/12/2008 17:28

Hi all, not been here for a while but managed to keep running. Ran my 1st 10k race today and am so chuffed with myself!! never thought i would! managed to get round in 49 min which is 5 min faster than i've done before. Think i deserve the box of after 8's i'm about to eat .

Hope you all had a happy christmas x

TinyWhiteFeather · 26/12/2008 19:48

Managed to sneak out today for a short one. It was so peaceful. Have picked a short route for starting to time myself which has a challenging hill and my favourite field in it.

Excited about finding new challenges next year.

MrsWednesday · 26/12/2008 20:49

Ambercat, that's brilliant, well done . You most definitely do deserve several boxes of After Eights.

TFW, have you signed up for any runs for next year?

I managed to drag myself out today, glad I did it as I'm feeling much better for going. Did nearly 7 miles with a couple of hills thrown in, which helped to blow the Christmas cobwebs away.

BlessThisMess · 27/12/2008 00:07

I haven't run for about 3 weeks, BUT for Christmas I got a Garmin ForeRunner 301 heartrate monitor/GPS thingy and a subscription to Runner's World magazine. I'd better get out there, I suppose!!

TinyWhiteFeather · 27/12/2008 03:00

No I haven't signed up for any runs MrsW.......mm, H isn't really all that keen, and really wants me to be satisfied with just local running. Might try and persuade that I could at least try the Great North Run, but not sure it is worth causing disharmony over.
And I want my main energies to go into re-establishing my 'career' next year.

We shall see though. Id like to think I could do one one day.

hatwoman · 27/12/2008 16:17

hi everyone. I got out for 7 today which was lovely. if a little cold.

I have some questions

  • can any marathon runners among you recommend a schedule or a source of schedules? I'm gearing up to start proper training now and looking around for a schedule. I like the idea of the Runners' World tailor-made one (you put in your current times and what you're training for) but it only gives me a 3 times a week schedule - which seems odd for a marathon - I know 3 times a week is do-able but I want to do 4.
  • and a more light-hearted question. those of you who do quite a lot (eg 3 or more times a week) - do you put fresh kit on every time? I have quite enough washing to do without 4 extra tops (upto 8 if it's cold and i've been wearing 2 layers) and 4 bottoms. so I want to know if it's skanky of me to go running in yesterday's t-shirt (not a run-in one, just a normal worn-for-a-day one) and to wear bottoms for 2 runs....pass your verdict upon me...
SachaF · 27/12/2008 16:32

Ooh, hatwoman, that's fine! When I was running 3 times a week I generally used the same kit and just aired it overnight in the bathroom - only had 1 sportsbra that fitted anyway when I was bf'ing ds so couldn't keep washing that or i'd never have it to wear! I'd go home and change tho, not lounge around in the smelly t-shirts!

Am looking forward to reading your posts in the next few weeks to inspire me to get out running again - have dd who is 3 months and ds who is just 2 and what with various illnesses in the house running has unfortunatley been the thing to go - but I have a lovely double running buggy that I want to use more! Just need to encourage dd to sleep more......

hatwoman · 27/12/2008 18:04

hmm, it's not as if you stop for a coffee with friends half way through your run is it? I mean, it's straight out your door...run...straight back home again

sparklyxmasfairy · 27/12/2008 21:05

Hi all

Ambercat well done! hope everyone is well

question about gear I don't always wash it and often use bottoms all week less so tops and bras but will if I have to

I spent Christmas at the inlaws all fine except for the colds and the coughs
have not been out running for over a week, fully intended to go today but had a temperature and sore throat last night, still felt rough this morning, went on to brave Ikea and now just feel dizzyleaving it for tomorrow

dh bought me a fancy Polar watch/ running computer gadgety thing so I should really take it for a spin

MrsWednesday · 28/12/2008 09:36

TWF, that's a shame, hope you can talk him round. I'm planning to try and do the Great North Run this year with my sister, and am also still toying with the idea of doing a marathon so will be watching hatwoman's training plan with great interest.

I do wash my kit between runs usually but as I only go out once or twice a week this is no great hardship! Don't wash my high vis jacket very often (it stank to high heaven after my last run though, had to get the Vanish on it to try and shift the pong )

BlessThisMess, have you tried out your new watch yet? I love mine but don't use anywhere near all of the functions on it.

I'm going to seize the day and go out for a run this morning - got to make the most of the chance of being able to run in daylight hours.

MrsWednesday · 28/12/2008 09:37

Oh and you too with your fancy new watch sfxmum! Hope you feel better v soon and can take it out for a trial run.

robino · 28/12/2008 10:44

Can I join you all for motivation? I started by joining a beginners group in September when DD2 was 3 months old (and DD1 21 months..). We took 9 weeks to get from 1 min run/ 1 min walk to a 2 mile continuous run and then got moved up to the big girls group where we do a basic 3 or so miles at the mo with loop backs for the more advanced. Last weekend I did a 4.5 mile run - was slow but I finished.

My issue is getting out more often, I go out with the group on Tuesday, try to get out at the weekend and never manage my wished for 3rd trip out! OH v supportive and I got a Shuffle, running watch and hi-vis for Christmas but am still breast-feeding smallest and she's still sleeping badly so a bit pooped!

Have decided that I will run a 10k this, er, next year at some point. Decided to aim small and hopefully manage it!

HarktheHarrogateMumissinging · 28/12/2008 11:15

hi robino sounds like you are doing really well!

I am still totally unmotivated and despite reading all your fab running stories have yet to shift my bum off the sofa this Christmas and get out. I will get a run in before the end of the year (I keep saying this every morning!!).
