Another thread to keep going!

OP posts:
MotherForkinShirtBalls · 30/08/2025 11:21

I've gone from needing to go alone to needing an accountability buddy for running. Plus it's nice to have a half an hour with ds a few times a week 😊

S&c this morning, which was a hard one. I finally got some new weightlifting wrist straps which made a huge difference (I have t-rex puny forearms). I'm optimistic I might get to my planned 90kg deadlift by the end of the year now.

OP posts:
Happleandhorange · 31/08/2025 11:35

90kg! That sounds unbelievable.
I went to gym and did my own thing. There wasn't much time before it closed (Sunday here). I remembered my asthma inhaler which is helping.

@MotherForkinShirtBalls that sounds amazing, your dedication to lifting is inspiring!

We did deadlift on Tuesday at the crossfits and I was quite happy to set down a marker for the future. I think the PB is going up before Christmas.

afaloren · 01/09/2025 15:04

Mixed cardio session at the gym. Upped the incline on the treadmill and increased my level on the stair master. Baby steps!

Alittlefrustrated · 01/09/2025 20:53

I'm back 🙂 Great to see some new names here, welcome all.!!
I've been absolutely knackered after that cold - DP is the same, so we suspect it was covid. I've done none of my hobbies never mind exercising - just easing in now. I also started dropping things and having a numb left hand and arm. It's much better now but tingling and reduced sensation. It must be an irritated nerve.
Last Thursday - pilates class. 149.
Last Friday - 5.5 mile walk. 150.
Today - 34 x 25m swim, pilates class.
151.
Swimming was "interesting" with my dodgy arm, but at least I did it.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 01/09/2025 21:06

Good to see you back, frustrated. Sorry to hear you've been so unwell, it sounds like a nasty dose.

Small increases are the best way to make improvements, afaloren!

I've been lifting a long time Bez so I should be much better at it! I'm a bit bored of the whole process at the moment, despite knowing it's so good for me, and too many niggling injuries, hence the new goal. My squat is a disaster though. I just can't get over 50kg without losing form... As happened this evening at s&c. 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
roonetta · 02/09/2025 08:22

Glad to hear you are on the mend frustrated. The numb arm sounds a little scary!

Well done everyone! Any increase is good, no matter how small.

90kg motherforkin! I know you will make it happen 💪🏻

I did a Nat Hayward strength workout today. Used much lighter weights than I was prior to injuring myself, but I am trying to avoid any more injuries which put me back to square one. I love strength workouts but always increase the weights too quickly. I was literally using 3kg today so I didn’t work up much of a sweat.

Happleandhorange · 02/09/2025 20:26

All these workouts are so impressive. I need to find out who Nat Hayward is.
My hand physio went well. So that is a relief. I can use free weights if I want, and start putting weight on that hand.
I've decided to keep away from the more interesting classes this week, to rest my ankle. So yesterday I did elliptical, bike and arm weight machines. I am on my way in for another session but first I need to persuade myself out of bed.

Getting going is always the hard part Happleandhorange!

Ds and I ran this evening. He has tweaked his knee (I think because he's wearing new runners that actually fit him, he grew 3 sizes over the summer) so we went fairly slow to avoid making that worse.

OP posts:
Happleandhorange · 02/09/2025 21:29

Wow to 3 sizes. I am outside the gym, and inconveniently panicking.
I think I will go in in five minutes, warm up very gently and perhaps join a class so I don't have to think.

Happleandhorange · 02/09/2025 23:08

I did Ceremony! It's pretty challenging but you can go at the pace you want.

No. 12

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 03/09/2025 14:50

What's involved in ceremony, Happleandhorange?

I had half an hour to swim at lunchtime, shorter than planned due to answering the phone at the wrong time, and no idea of my distance as I decided to try the sport recognition mode on my new watch. It thought I was hiking. There's either an issue with its coding or my swimming.

OP posts:
afaloren · 03/09/2025 15:36

No car to get to the gym so I did a YouTube Body Project workout on the tv. They’re good for low impact routines that still get your heart pumping!

Happleandhorange · 03/09/2025 20:04

Haha to hiking mode. My watch is a samsung and it needs me to tell it exactly what I am doing. Otherwise it sulks and stops measuring my heartrate.

Ceremony is basically circuit training. You work in pairs. The gym is set up so you go in lanes between exercises, and you do it in pairs. There were barbells, rowers, ski ergs, dumb bells, a weird thing where you hang from the ceiling, running and jumping lanes, and a strange bit at the end where you wave a heavy dinnerplate shape around. I had to modify, obviously. But it was a good workout, the only problem is that I am not quick to change exercises which is what you need.

Happleandhorange · 03/09/2025 20:25

That sounds great, @afaloren . I have to try out the Les Mills at home app sometime.

Happleandhorange · 04/09/2025 08:15

Today I had an ultrasound on my foot, which was awful. It took ages, was very painful and also very triggering re: PTSD. It was particularly bad I think because I had a mammogram yesterday, so was already hypersensitised to invasive medical procedures. There's a torn ligament, which isn't great news.

To save time I went to try the Les Mills branch in a different part of town where I had a meeting. It made me like my own branch more :-) but was a good place to learn my way around. I did a live spin class but very gently and slowly, because of the stressful morning. It was good except that I couldn't hear what the instructor was saying! But my hand coped much better with it than a week ago, so that's good news.

13 (I think)

Alittlefrustrated · 04/09/2025 18:25

How on earth are you doing classes with a torn ligament Happleandhorange?!!
I'm delighted to report I've suddenly pinged out of the post viral lethargy, and have huge improvement in my arm/hand since yesterday.
I'm impressed your tracker works at all when swimming MotherForkinShirtBalls - I've had 1 die after 2 swims and 1 after washing up. I use alphabet games to track lengths.
Yesterday - pilates class - 152
Today - 9 mile walk - 153.

Happleandhorange · 04/09/2025 20:27

Well, the ligament was probably torn three months ago in the same accident that I broke my hand. I didn't realise, embarrassingly, until a couple of weeks ago. The physio has strapped it and I avoid any running or heavy footwork in classes at moment - she said this level of activity was fine as wasn't flaring up, but that was last week, before we had ultrasound. She may give different advice now. The key thing seems to be to sit down and rest between activities rather than keep on moving foot all day - so two short dog walks instead of one long one, for example.

Happleandhorange · 04/09/2025 20:28

That's great news about the post-viral lethargy disappearing.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 04/09/2025 23:24

Ouch, Happleandhorange, that sounds excruciating. I hope your physio can help.

Great that you're feeling better, frustrated. What alphabet games do you play? I'm so bad at counting laps.

S&c today.

OP posts:
Happleandhorange · 05/09/2025 00:19

I'm glad it's not just me - I used to swim a lot and the laps were impossible to remember.

Happleandhorange · 05/09/2025 10:11

Aaaargh.
I nearly died.
Went to swanky faraway gym again today as it is close to synagogue (Friday night here). Traffic was bad so ran out of time and had to dash without doing stretches as was meeting DS3 there for service. I had been on bike and briefly elliptical. My muscles are complaining LOUDLY. Tomorrow morning will be interesting.

Happleandhorange · 05/09/2025 10:17

(These are just normal muscles, not the injired ones!)

BezMills · 05/09/2025 15:06

By the sounds of it you're getting your money's worth out of Les Mills gyms @Happleandhorange !

I've been to Crossfit on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and am off to the 5.30pm tonight. I'm still rather enjoying it, learning loads of technical detail about the exercises (that's catnip to me) and working hard. Yesterday was Overhead Press then 10 x 1 minute rounds on the rowing erg with 1 minute rest in between. I'm not really a fan of the erg, but since I got some pointers on technique at least it's a little bit more interesting trying to do it as instructed (rather than my brute force and ignorance approach as before).

afaloren · 06/09/2025 10:17

10k on the bike at the gym yesterday. Just over actually as my speed must have improved. I’d like to go back to spin but I’m a long way off that fitness level currently.
