Another thread to keep going!

Ouch frustrated, that sounds horrible. I hope it's healing well.

S&c this morning. I'm away for the weekend now so not sure if/what I'll get to do, but I'll bring my gear just in case.

All that on a banana BezMills!
9.2 mile coastal walk today

I had two weetabix instead of the nana tbf.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 10/08/2025 21:32

Run with ds when we got home this evening. We were definitely going faster than our last run. He's determined to kill me. I followed it up with an excellent sea dip. Perfect evening for it and I feel so good after it.

S&c followed by a sea dip. It was bliss.

Hahaha! You make me laugh Bez 😂

Ouch frustrated, hope you are on the mend ❤️‍🩹

Well done everyone! This thread is truly humbling at times, but on the flip side it is what makes me keep going.

Hope all is well with you @ProfessorRadcliffeEmersonand you aren’t working yourself into the ground. Hope you managed the break you mentioned ❤️

I'm booked in for Crossfit tonight. I'm on PAYG at the moment, which means I don't get to know what we're doing until I turn up (people on a recurring membership get to see all the workouts a week in advance).

School holidays and DW is away so I'm doing some Topp Parenting consisting of picking DD8 from Drama, and letting her eat beige dinner in the car while I drive to CrossFit. Then she gets to sit and watch cartoons or kids youtube with headphones on while I train.

roonetta · 13/08/2025 08:18

Nat Hayward dynamic Pilates done ✅. Always find Pilates tough as I am neither strong nor flexible, but I give myself points for trying 😁

BezMills · 13/08/2025 12:52

haha I'm like that in Crossfit @roonetta it's full of strong, athletic people with highly developed skills.

I'm like not strong, slightly athletic depending on what we're doing, and most of the skills I'm like level 0 or so. I sat last night and watch the class before me absolutely killing the workout. Seriously impressive. Then I went and tried my best lol.

Back in the pool today - 40 x 25m
Pilates class tonight
Had 4 days feeling a bit sorry for myself and doing bugger all, so pleased with myself today 🙂

I felt really rough for a couple of days after I last posted, but back to the gym twice (today's class was truly awful) and have been in the sea the last three days. It was high tide this evening and really bouncy, lots of fun.

Alittlefrustrated · 18/08/2025 19:33

I congratulated myself too soon! I've been full of cold sinceI last posted, so no action here.
Managed to get to pilates tonight though.

I had a three cocktail lunch and am about to go for a run with ds. If I don't make it back, I bid you all adieu 🫣

I survived the run. S&c this evening. In a moment of weakness I was conned into signing up for the hyrox class on Thursday.

Hi, may I join? I'm recovering from a broken wrist and need inspiration to get back into the fitness routine. I joined a local council-run gym but it didn't work for me due to lack of security, oddballs wandering in and out to stare etc, I'm now doing a free trial at Les Mills (here in New Zealand). It's all a bit overwhelming, I am fifty and with chronic illness, Les Mills feels like I have arrived at Santa's workshop but have no idea what all the toys are.
This looked like a friendly and supportive thread.
Am about to take dog for a gentle walk which I am hoping we can count as workout No.1.

roonetta · 20/08/2025 08:19

Welcome @Happleandhorange👋. Please do join us. You are right, this is a very supportive thread. We all do our own thing, whether that’s hard core or gentle walking. No judgement ever. That gym class sounds awful. Hope you enjoy Les Mills, I’ve never done it but I’m sure there are people on this thread who have.

69 (I think) 🤔

Happleandhorange · 20/08/2025 08:28

That sounds ideal. Particularly as the dog walk was so very gentle I am not sure if it counts as a workout!

BezMills · 20/08/2025 10:48

Hi @Happleandhorange

I'm actually a resting LM BodyCombat instructor and happy to answer questions if that can help.

Probably just find one class that you like and do two or three sessions a week, depending on how you feel. Then once you feel established with one thing, maybe do a second class type to add variety and maintain interest. I mean I just did BodyCombat for 18 months there, it's the only class at my gym that I was interested in. But in days gone by I would do Barre (sadly gone, now integrated into Shapes) and Core as well as BC.

I suggest talking to one of the instructors, and see what they would suggest. They are really great at getting people onboard and they want you to find something that will make you decide to commit to the gym and become a member. Maybe they will suggest trying BodyBalance, Core, Shapes, which are Pilates/Yoga like workouts.

Later on or if you want to try something a bit more hectic, then you've got BodyJam, BodyCombat and BodyAttack. They're all a similar intensity, but dance, martial-arts, general aerobics respectively.

One last remark. You'll find in those classes, that some people are ludicrously fit and energetic and bendy. Don't worry about them, let them do them, just you do you. If you keep turning up, you'll notice big improvements very quickly and that's what it's all about.

Good luck and please keep us posted!

Happleandhorange · 20/08/2025 11:46

Thank you, that's really helpful advice. I am going to go in tomorrow and try a class, not sure which one yet, it just depends when I wake up!

tryingtobesogood · 20/08/2025 13:59

Hello, I joined this thread a while ago but then drifted off again. I’ve had a love/hate thing going on with exercise for a while now. I’ve tried the gym, and have thought about a PT.

however I got a peloton guide for my birthday and did my first class this morning, it was great. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought though I felt (and looked) like a beached whale a lot of the time.

so workout 1 ✅

BezMills · 20/08/2025 17:04

Well done @tryingtobesogood it's an uphill struggle until you find something you enjoy. Hopefully this peloton thingy is it for you!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 20/08/2025 17:35

Hello Happleandhorange 👋 and nice to see you back tryingtobesogood. I find motivation very difficult at the best of time (and now), but this group is a nice way to encourage me to do something even when I don't want to!

Will go for a run with ds this evening.

Welcome Happleandhorange and tryingtobesogood!

Happleandhorange · 21/08/2025 11:53

Well, today was eventful. I went to gym at about 3pm and did a bit of bike and leg strength, with which I am familiar: then felt brave and went into Pilates class, thinking it would be nice and gentle. I nearly died. I don't think I have a core at all, I think I'm more a doughnut shape with jelly in the middle.
I was so grateful for the advice on here to ignore everyone else and just do what I could. I then spent a good while trying to navigate the changing rooms and showers (it is a real rabbit warren of a building). Accomplished it eventually but was absolutely exhausted by the experience!
