How to get a bigger bum

buma · 28/05/2024 09:45

I've got a tiny little bum. It's not flat but it is very small!

Is there actually a way to make it appear bigger without an absolute tonne of work? I'd like it bigger but equally I can't commit to working out constantly!!

@Crushed23 you won't bulk up doing just body weight exercises just tone. Squats and things will also help core muscles which will help snatch your waist giving you the illusion of a bigger bum.

Whaaat? Doesn't exercise make your bum smaller? There is no way to get a bigger bum except by getting fat or having barely ethical cosmetic surgery. Who wants a bigger bum anyway. It is just a soft porn trope.

EDIT: You could always get a bustle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bustle

Huh? You have no idea. We are not talking about a lard arse here. We are talking about glutes. No one wants a flat arse.

Basically, no.

As PPs have said, you need to work out, hard & heavy, and consistently, eat protein & probably be in a calorie surplus.

The best overall exercise for growing glutes is probably the barbell squat, with accesory lifts such as RDLs and possibly hip thrusters. But you'll need to work other parts of your body as well (otherwise, injuries) and you'll need a programme of progressive overload of weight, and you should work out a minimum of 3 times a week.

MaryFuckingFerguson · 30/05/2024 21:42

I am old (52) and can’t fathom why anyone would want a big arse. Not flat, not fat - but small is what I want.

YourPithyLilacSheep · 30/05/2024 21:44

Adding: I've been lifting heavy for about 7 years now, but my butt is pretty flat. However, I have and have glutes, quads & hammies of steel which protect my back and hips from injury.

I can squat my own bodyweight and deadlift 1.3 times my bodyweight. But my butt is still pretty flat. However, I am very strong and won't have osteoporosis when I'm 80.

You can't "spot exercise" just like you can't "spot reduce" fat.

Sit on it all day whilst working on a computer, and all evening while crocheting, watching TV or listening to audio books.

Worked for me!

Plus chocolate!

And beer too.

SallyWD · 30/05/2024 22:27

Can you take some of my excess bum fat?!

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 30/05/2024 22:32

If you’re prepared to put work in, book a session with a personal trainer & get some advice about a workout routine.

I’m proud of my flat arse.

You can definitely spot exercise, as I learned when I started out exercising. I was doing lower body only and had incredibly toned legs and bottom but zero tone on my arms/upper body.

I now do total body exercises and look a lot more balanced.

Gettingbysomehow · 31/05/2024 06:40

What is this big bum mania. I've spent my life trying to get rid of my big bum. I hate it.

ValueAddedTaxonomy · 31/05/2024 07:19

In places like Amazon that are full of really crappy product images for clothing, you so often see photos that enlarge women's bottoms (through photoshop, silly postures or whatever). They look like soft porn to me and make these sorts of shopping environments seem almost like hostile places. The bum-enlarged women sometimes look pouty and porny in other ways.

I can only imagine that some women are buying more and more into a porn-influenced image of what they are, and retailers are catching onto this trend , so that women in general start to feel pressured by it.

I know I should feel angry with the retailers and the porn supppliers, but I actually also feel angry with the women on the ground who are going along with it. The previous obsession (Is my bum too big?") was also trivialising but at least it didn't involve a celebration of soft porn.

YourPithyLilacSheep · 31/05/2024 09:57

There's a limit to how much you can change your genetics.

There's a very interesting YouTube vid/Insta account which outlines some of the tricks that "fitness influencers" use - Keltie Someoneorother. The photos of glutes are usually achieved by lighting, camera angle, and wearing leggings/sorts a size smaller than usual, and crucially pulling your leggings right up into your butt crack.

I know it’s bonkers. Having a massive arse wasn’t something to aspire to yet now it’s fashionable. Two letters KK 🙄

henlake7 · 31/05/2024 10:59

Ive literally never thought about the size of my bum, unless I was sitting on a really hard surface!
I mean its behind me.....who cares! It would be like asking 'does the back of my head look fat?'😅

Good point!
‘Put your arse behind you’ is a great motto for life.

Eat lots of cake. Worked for me.

Who wants a bigger bum anyway. It is just a soft porn trope.

Said like a true flat arsed gal.

Dismissing a bigger bum (which occurs naturally for lots of women) as something that is only linked to porn is rank.

It’s only something that has been desired in the UK recently though because of fashion. Normally it’s people wanting to be slimmer, not have a massive arse until recently.

is that preferable, people wanting to slim down big arses to fit the previous fashion for skinny bums?

there have always been women with bigger bums, Black women for example. Dismissing that as 'ewww, who wants that anyway' is crass.

We’re all different shapes and sizes. Of course some people have them naturally because that’s how they are built and they are desired by some people.

My point still stands that it’s a fashion trend now and there’s nothing crass about saying that.

What is crass is you calling the OP a flat ass gal in a derogatory way purposely….

Do you usually have trouble following threads?

I didn't call the OP a flat ass gal.

I called the person who made the crass comment 'Who wants a bigger bum anyway. It is just a soft porn trope.' a flat ass gal.

Keep up.

Either way you’ve got a cheek to slag off anyone else and accuse them of being crass when you’re full of insults. The irony…

buffyslayer · 31/05/2024 12:32

I follow this woman on IG, she does a lot of glute focused stuff and I would very much love her bum!
