BS week1 workout 2 done - marginally easier than the ‘push’ muscles one. Cardio tomorrow, really not looking forward to that! I may skip the cardio days when I’m back in the office a couple of days a week and cycling in. But that won’t be till next week, so I have no excuse this week.

I haven’t done Bodyshred before, I meant to do it as a follow-on from Body Revolution a couple of years ago, but couldn’t get hold of it then. I can’t say I’m looking forward to it (and I am in awe of those of you doing Epic, I think that’s beyond me).

Welcome @StealthPolarBear! It is utterly horrible but does make a difference.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 06/04/2021 08:48

BS cardio 1 done. Bleaurgh. I really hate cardio. I’m definitely binning those days when I’m back on the bike to work.

Queuing4Fergs · 06/04/2021 09:59

Professor I'm following your comments on Body Shred closely as I bought it accidentally, thinking it was Body Revolution 🤦‍♀️. My plan after Ri30 is to do Body Revolution if I can still access it online (can't find a UK dvd anywhere) and then Body Shred. By then I should have the body of Jessica Ennis Hill so I'm quite excited Grin

So I've just watched Ri30 Level 3 as I'm going to be doing it later this morning. My quads were crying in sympathy just watching it. Pray for me.

roonetta · 06/04/2021 11:13

I really hate cardio too Professor. I just hate getting out of breath. I substituted a lot of the cardio days for something else.

Jillian popped into my head today while I was doing the Epic dumbbell HIIT. I was about halfway through and feeling like giving up and heard “unless you puke, faint or die keep going”. It really did work and I put more into that workout than I thought possible. The power of the mind is amazing. Epic is definitely not beyond you Professor. You can tailor the workouts to suit you, by modifying and using whatever weights you like and going at your own pace (which is a much slower pace than Jillian Grin). Once you have finished Bodyshred you can do anything!

🙏 praying for you Queuing Grin

Well I survived, but barely. That was tough, only made easier by the fact that I couldn't even do some of it so ended up taking unintended rests Blush

I really struggled with balance so hoping that will improve over the week. And jumping lunges as a cardio exercise? That's just mean, Jillian. Struggled a bit with my wrists so anything where I had to hold my body weight up on my wrists was tricky. Definite room for improvement.

I'm another cardio hater. I really hate having irregular breathing and sweating (so in retrospect, Jillian was a poor choice!) But I do have to hand it to her, the woman knows how to motivate. Although I am finding her quite annoying on this dvd (Ri30). "Give it to me mommy!" and "Get some!" are particularly repetitious and loathsome

Queuing4Fergs · 06/04/2021 21:12

Huzzah, I managed to get a Body Revolutuon dvd set from a UK seller on ebay. May have to sell a kidney, but I feel more comfortable using a dvd than relying on the Internet freebie versions, just in case it gets pulled half way through and my body remains unrevolutionised...

For anyone doing it/having done it, what resistance band or bands will I need? I take it they come in different sizes or resistance levels?

Given I have been bitching about L2 of Ri30, I may be wildly optimistic about my ability to get anywhere near the end of the full programme 😳

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 06/04/2021 21:35

I had JM’s own resistance cable, so if you look that up it’ll give you an idea of what you’re looking for.

I wouldn’t have said BR was harder than RI30 overall - in fact the first month is easier, although the cardio DVD for that month is mind-numbingly boring. L2 of Ripped is no joke, I found it the hardest workout of the lot. BR is just a different structure.

Wineloffa · 06/04/2021 22:05

Hi, can I please join? I’ve only discovered Jillian this year and absolutely love her! I’ve already done the 30 Day Shred and I’m currently doing 6w6p but alternating it with Shred L1,2,3 as I hate doing the same video for days on end. I’m doing these work outs Mon - Saturday.

I also do yoga every day. Adrienne Mon - Thurs and Jillian’s Yoga Inferno / Meltdown Fri - Sun. Planning on doing Ri30 next. I’ve only lost 2 pounds since I started Jillian’s videos but I look a lot slimmer and more toned so I’ve definitely lost inches!

StealthPolarBear · 07/04/2021 07:49

Still hanging on.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 07/04/2021 08:11

BS week 1 workout 1 done, second time. Not so good today, I missed a set of push-ups because I was sitting in a heap on my mat feeling sorry for myself. Two more workouts to go then I’ll award myself the weekend off.

Welcome @Wineloffa, and congratulations on hanging on in there, @StealthPolarBear.

roonetta · 07/04/2021 11:39

I think Jillian is quite aggressive in Ripped Queuing. She is much better in BR and it is a really fun programme with lots of good banter between her and the cast. I was always worried the freebie would be taken down too, but was lucky it hung around. I second everything Professor says about BR. You will definitely be able to manage it.

Welcome @Wineloffa, it sounds like you have got a great routine going. Would be great if you joined us Smile. I wouldn’t go by weight loss on the scale when doing Jillian. You will definitely build muscle and lose inches, but it doesn’t always reflect on the scale.

I always found the ‘push’ workouts much tougher than the pull ones Professor. There are only so many push ups you can do before your arms and shoulders cry for mercy Grin

Keep going Stealth 👏👏

Epic day 41 glutes and hamstrings ✅

Wineloffa · 07/04/2021 16:58

Thanks for the lovely welcomes! Looking forward to exchanging exercise stories on here.

Today I did 6W6P L1 followed by an Adrienne Yoga Tone video. I also did a 30 min brisk walk with the dog.

I’m going to start my 2021 days exercised from Jan 1st because I’ve been doing yoga every day and walking since the 1st lockdown last year and started other workouts on Feb 1st. So days exercised: 97. ✅

AlgonquinBay · 07/04/2021 22:39

Hello all, with all the excitement of Easter I haven't posted for a few days - a few new names here so welcome @Wineloffa and @StealthPolarBear

Day 12 of Epic done today and whoop whoop, I managed the handstands!! Nearly didn't even try but then I decided to give it a go and boom! Grin so proud but my 10 year old self would be devastated that it had been 35 years since I had even attempted one!!

You will smash BR queuing - I didn't bother buying a "torture tube" but just did the exercises using weights and it worked just fine.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 08/04/2021 08:32

A handstand Shock! I couldn’t do one of those when I was 10 and I certainly wouldn’t be able to 38 years on - respect, @AlgonquinBay!

BS week 1, workout 2, second time. I agree with @roonetta that the ‘push’ workouts are harder, there was less sitting on the mat feeling sorry for myself this morning.

Queuing4Fergs · 08/04/2021 08:37

Thanks for advice re the bands (torture tube Grin), will investigate. Am encouraged to think that maybe I won't die attempting BR. I have my second go at Ri30 L3 today after a rest day yesterday. My back is a bit sore from my first attempt at it on Tuesday. Not sure if it's muscle soreness or whether I strained it slightly with poor form on one of the many moves I couldn't do. Hopefully today will go a bit better.

Hi Wineloffa I did 30DS followed by 6W6P (aka Not Your Mother's Workout) last summer and had great results with slimming down even though the scales didn't change much. L2 was a killer on cardio if I recall, and it finished with mountain climbers? Utter sadist she is.

Stealth what programme are you doing? If you're "showing up" and doing your best in whatever it is, you're more than just hanging in there! These workouts are no joke so give yourself credit where it's due.

Handstands AlgonquinBay? Good lord. I can't remember the last time I did one. It's one of those weird things I think about sometimes - the last time I did a handstand I wouldn't have known it was the last time I would ever do a handstand (cos I'm not about to start again now!)

roonetta · 08/04/2021 12:28

Well done on the handstands Algonquin! It took me the whole of the first 30 seconds to even get my legs up 🤣

I always found the first time doing a workout I was all over the place Queuing but when I got used to the moves it felt a bit easier.

Epic day 42 shoulders and core. That was a tough one. No wonder she has shoulders like Arnie Grin. Used my 3kg weights for a lot of this one.

Wineloffa · 08/04/2021 18:52

Hi @Queuing4Fergs 6W6P is certainly not for the faint hearted and I’m still only on L1!

Today I did 30 DS L3, Yoga with Adrienne and a 30 min brisk dog walk.

What’s Epic like? Would I die if I attempted it?

Days exercised 93 ✅

Queuing4Fergs · 08/04/2021 19:09

Ri30 L3 D2 alot better than D1. I really went for it but with the best will in the world, I don't think I'm ever going to be able to get up on the rock and rollers. I really tried to propel myself forward but it hurt my back and I nearly brained myself on the radiator Grin. Not even sure which muscles it is supposed to be working - just feels like a rest at this point as I get to flail about on the ground for 2 x 30 seconds.

Finding the cardio, other than the running arms, quite challenging. Managing to get through it though, just. Bear crawls are OK but I can't see how flat my back is so there is a chance I'm cheating which pisses her off! Duck walks are obviously ridiculous and I find I need to do them in Shelley mode as going too low like Basheera has me drop my weight centrally and pointing my quads/knees out (to accommodate my stomach) rather than straightahead which hurts my knees. Either way, painful, so mission accomplished there J-Dog.

3kg on any shoulders I think would END me, Algonquin

Wineloffa kudos on doing another workout on top of a shred workout. I can manage a gentle stoll bit that's about it. I've never done yoga but I am not at all bendy so I suspect I would hate not enjoy it

roonetta · 08/04/2021 21:01

A tip for the rock and rollers @Queuing4Fergs is to hold your dumbbells. It really does work as the extra weight helps you up 😁

OP posts:
Wineloffa · 08/04/2021 21:16

@Queuing4Fergs I’ve been practicing yoga for 10 years so my day is never complete without doing some. Adrienne’s videos are actually very restorative after a Jillian workout, you give your body a good stretch which Jillian’s warm downs don’t really provide.

Jillian’s yoga DVD’s are intense though especially Yoga Inferno which I’ll be doing tomorrow!

Queuing4Fergs · 08/04/2021 21:17

Thanks roonetta will give that a go tomorrow. And sorry, reading back it was you with the 3kg shoulder weights. Props to you 💪

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 09/04/2021 08:37

BS week 1 cardio done - and that’s the first week complete. Rest day tomorrow then I’ll try to start week 2 on Sunday. The cardio doesn’t get any better. Why is exercise so boring?

@Wineloffa, I’m impressed by your yoga practice- I aim to do some Adriene every day but only achieve it half the time. I’m not very flexible (understatement) so it doesn’t come at all naturally.

roonetta · 09/04/2021 16:38

Well done Professor! Star. One of the things I liked about both BR and BS is that you only have to do the same workouts four times each before moving on to something different, rather than 10 days of the same workout (apart from the awful cardio of course).

You wouldn’t die doing Epic Wineloffa - you can go at your own pace, and it is a much slower pace than Jillian. Not gonna lie, it is tough, but definitely manageable.

Epic day 43 quads and lower abs done ☑️.

@roonetta thanks I’ll stick Epic on my ‘to do’ list for when I get bored of Jillian!

@ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson I get a lot mentally from yoga, daily practice has really helped my anxiety and it’s taught me mindfulness which makes me a calmer person.

Today I did 6W6P L1 and Yoga Inferno L1. Almost phoned it in in the middle of YI as I thought my arms were going to fall off!! Tough stuff but I loved it!

AlgonquinBay · 11/04/2021 15:11

Day 15 of Epic done here ✅

I echo what roonetta says about Epic @Wineloffa - it is tough but no tougher than Jillian.

Day 43 roonetta that is awesome Star what's next for you?
