Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

That's good, 78%Smile

drspouse · 03/04/2021 21:04

Oh that is good news.
My physio has me doing side planks now Hmm

FrangipaniBlue · 03/04/2021 23:11

Sunshine was out so I went out for the day with my friend.

We cycled 180km!!

It's given me a confidence boost that I am not being ridiculous to think I can do an IronMan triathlon next year Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 03/04/2021 23:41

Wow!Shock

Hi everyone, hi @TriSeaSwim99. I have been on these threads a few years now but took a social media break during lockdown #3.
I'm currently running quite well up until this week. I've pushed myself quite hard, doing 180km in December for a challenge and then have done 466km so far this year. That's an increase of approx 25% on last year.
I've had a twinge in my hip this last week so have taken a full week off. Contemplating running today, may leave it til tomorrow- but the gorgeous sunshine today is so tempting. I may head out for a gentle one to test my hip.

I've pushed my distances this year too, after setting myself the challenge of running 21 21's in 2021- currently on 5!

FrangipaniBlue · 04/04/2021 07:23

Welcome and hello @thenewaveragebear1983 !

I always think it's good to have a goal, I get lazy and don't exercise if I'm not training for something 🤔

SSwimCycle21 · 04/04/2021 07:28

Wow FrangipaniBlue that’s an awesome ride, good luck with your training. I had a friend who trained for one a couple of years ago. So all consuming though for months & months.

Waves at bear good to hear you are still running well and I hope the niggly hip doesn’t flair up again. I’ve had to reduce my level of running to protect my body but I’m slowly ramping up the cycling again ahead of a charity ride in June. (Tri with name change)

SSwimCycle21 · 04/04/2021 10:24

Early 6k run but was nursing a super tight calf so took it steady. Off for a bike ride with kids now.

running 247km
Swimming 10.7km
Cycling 453km

Run1000km2021 · 04/04/2021 11:15

Another 12k for me, total running 570km.

Welcome back @thenewaveragebear1983😊

TheLongRider · 04/04/2021 13:58

Another 178km between walking and cycling. From 12th April we will be allowed to exercise within our county and within 20km from home. Roll on mountains and seaside.

SSwimCycle21 · 04/04/2021 14:09

Family cycle 13km. Surprised I’ve totalled 121km cycling this week it soon adds up pleased to be increasing my distances now.

running 247km

That's good news, are the vaccination rates going up as I know you had a slow start there?
ErrolTheDragon · 04/04/2021 15:06

A bit further out along the canal today. 9.7km

573.3 walked
40 rowed

TheLongRider · 04/04/2021 15:55

Most of our vaccines are Pfizer, circa 900,000 doses administered so far. We only have a population of 4.5 million so it's still pretty slow. Many promises are made by the government but we'll see how things pan out.

FrangipaniBlue · 04/04/2021 23:17

@SSwimCycle21 yes I think IronMan training will be my life for the next 15 months 👍🏼😂😂

It's a slippery slope, first it'll be a local one, then another one in the same country, then you'll start planning your holidays around the overseas events. The final point is when you get the tattoo, preferably on your calf so that everyone knows! Grin

Good luck with it. I'm a one-sport woman, I can swim and run but cycling is it for me.

amysaurus87 · 05/04/2021 11:10

21.6 miles of walking done this week!

Walking: 277.51/1222.49
Running: 0/50

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2021 14:19

A bit further yet along the canal, to a popular spot where everyone and their dog were milling around so we headed back at that point. 11.9 km

585.2 walked
40 rowed

tizwozliz · 05/04/2021 17:19

11km walk today, I wimped out on running first thing when I got up and it was snowing. Swim session booked for next Monday, can't wait!

197 km total

drspouse · 05/04/2021 18:58

9k bike today, practicing hills but got another puncture. Going to order self sealing inner tubes.

Run1000km2021 · 06/04/2021 09:05

@FrangipaniBlue wow an Ironman!!! Have you done a half Ironman before? What’s it like...? I’m considering training for one...

Another 10k done this morning, 580km running so far.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/04/2021 14:21

Just a 5.3 km stroll round a nearby nature reserve; sunny but cold and windy. It's suddenly clouded over and we've had a hailstorm so I'm glad we didn't go for a long walk today!

590.5 walked
40 rowed

ErrolTheDragon · 06/04/2021 14:29

And now it's snowing!

FrangipaniBlue · 06/04/2021 19:52

@TheLongRider I have my sights set on a European one - all the UK ones are either too hilly or have sea swims with jelly fish Confused

@Run1000km2021 yes and no - I did a local half in 2019 and ended up with a DNF after missing the cut off for the end of the bike section. But since then I've done a half iron distance swim/bike/run just with a friend, not as part of an event. I'm doing one in June though that was a rollover entry from last year!

If you'd asked me 3 years ago if I was capable of doing an IronMan I would've laughed at you. I ran the London Marathon a good few year back but it was slow and painful and I didn't run for a whole year afterwards it killed my love for it so much Sad

I've had to re-find my love for running again, learn to ride a road bike (I never could as a child so have only ever ridden mountain bikes!) and learn to swim properly (until 18 months ago I could only swim breast stroke, 25m freestyle was beyond my skills!)

This is why my target miles/km for this year are high - it's to stretch me to push myself to do the training so that I don't cut it too close to the cut offs again Grin

I've loved reading everyone else's stories on this thread about why they run/bike/swim, what motivates them and the challenges people have had to overcome and I love reading about people realising their dreams and hitting their goals!

Run1000km2021 · 06/04/2021 22:11

Wow @FrangipaniBlue that all sounds very impressive!!! You obviously will nail the half Ironman if you’ve covered the distances before! What is the cut off time for the bike session?! I run very few organised events, I mostly cover the distances by myself or with friends so cut off times don’t get in my way😂 The energy at events must be amazing though.

I’m just starting to get into cycling!!! I mean, I ride my hybrid commuter bike but I’ve never ridden a proper road bike before. Any tips?

Thanks for sharing your experiences and good luck with the training😊
