Third year for me aiming to be as active as possible most days. So join me in setting a goal and keeping on track by logging on here Smile. I’ve set a 500mile run target this year to be realistic as I’ve nursed foot issues most of 2021 which really curtailed my running miles but sea swimming and trail running have developed into my passions. What’s your challenge this year?

3K bike (just picking DS up from school on the tandem).

SSwimCycle21 · 25/02/2021 18:20

Cycled down for a seaswim at sunrise bit grey but calmed my crappy anxiety this morning.

Running 173km
Swimming 6.2km
Cycling 180km

A tandem would be great fun. Many, many years ago DH and I won a two-up Christmas hamper TT because we were the only ones who got closest to our predicted time. We've always thought we'd do ok on a tandem...

30km on the turbo, sweet spot intervals and 3.2km walked for groceries.

Run1000km2021 · 25/02/2021 19:54

Another slow 5km for me, 313km done!
One half marathon left to do this weekend and then I’ve reached my 100 mile target for the month again!

drspouse · 25/02/2021 23:08

It's actually an attachment @TheLongRider, so I can have one DC or the other on the back. I love it! It rattles when I go solo though. I took it off last week and forgot till today to put it back but I've apparently got good at putting it on my bike (putting the DC bike on is really quick anyway). And I bumped into Cool Outdoors Dad at DS school (which is a PRU and his DCs are high achievers) and really impressed him so that felt good too (normally I tend to think the family feels sorry for us).

@tizwozliz I feel like you really really need new shoes if they’re stuck together with glue! Have you looked at Hoka? They’re more ££ but have a 30-day, no questions asked returns policy so you can properly try them out. I bought some a month or so because I wanted a risk-free lockdown purchase and they’ve been great. Worth a look?

7.7km for me yesterday as a recovery run - basically I did a really circuitous route to the supermarket! I’m going to need to go into the office today so will run in - will see if I can make it a 10k. It isn’t quite so there’s some finangling to be done with the route.

Hello from 3am! Puppy fun Grin

tizwozliz · 26/02/2021 07:50

I have about a 1 in 20 hit rate when it comes to trying on shoes, that's before I even attempt to walk/run in them. So just trying to decide on a model and size to order in the first place is difficult. I can afford to spend the money to get something appropriate (although it pains me to spend that sort of money on shoes that are pink or lilac or baby blue), but there's the hassle of ordering and sending back

I actually ordered some Salomons yesterday on the basis it's the brand I'm currently wearing, they were cheap-ish free returns and I'd happily keep them as general walking shoes even if they turn out to be no good for running.

I don't really intend to do any running once the pools are open again so hopefully this will see me through.

The river again, 11km

310.5 walked
35 rowed

TheLongRider · 26/02/2021 13:33

4km hiked this morning up and down the local hills. Loads of frogspawn in the ditches.

tizwozliz · 26/02/2021 13:41

Whereabouts in the country are you @TheLongRider ? We built a wildlife pond in the garden last summer, often see frogs about so wondering when I might see some frogspawn

TheLongRider · 26/02/2021 13:57

In ROI in South Dublin within 3km of the Dublin Mountains.

tizwozliz · 26/02/2021 14:19

Ah, think that's likely to be similar to here. We're a similar sort of latitude I will keep my eyes peeled, my regular running route takes me past some areas where there'd normally be some.

drspouse · 26/02/2021 14:23

6k bike and 4 k walking and I'm popping out to the park with the DCs in a minute too preens self.

TheLongRider · 26/02/2021 15:04

DH spotted the frogspawn last weekend. It is located at about 300m above sea level. I've attached a photo of Dublin from one of my usual routes. On a good day you can see the Mourne mountains 60 miles away, on an even better day you can see the Isle of Man and maybe even Snowdonia.

10km today - ready for the weekend. 7km on the road and 3km on the treadmill.

446.5/2021km this year.

SSwimCycle21 · 26/02/2021 20:38

Nice pictures of frog spawn and Irish mountains Smile

It was a double dip sea swim beautiful cold sunrise one and a warmer evening one just before lovely full moon rise. Cycled down so a couple of kms added on.

Running 173km
Swimming 6.7km
Cycling 187km

tizwozliz · 27/02/2021 15:51

6km on the bike to Tesco today, first time on the bike in a while. Felt much harder than it should!

96km total

drspouse · 27/02/2021 16:49

7k bike ride, first day of Sofa to 50k Shock.
Not sure how far I'll get, might have to do some of the rides ultra early Shock especially as the canal tow path is often very busy and taking off for hours at the weekend is really not OK with small DCs unless you are an entitled MAMIL with a downtrodden wife.

TheLongRider · 27/02/2021 17:48

drspouse You should take the time. Have the difficult conversation with the OH. I'm the one in our household who is gone all day. I've twice fecked off to France on my own for 10 days for an event, once when DD was 6, ten days after we'd moved house and again when she was 10. They both coped fine without me. I speak as an entitled MAMIL ( Middle Aged Mum in Lycra!)

Anyway 40km cycled today between turbo and Saturday errands.

drspouse · 27/02/2021 18:05

Oh, I'll get my time out. But one of our DCs has SEN and at least one will be going back to F2F activities and we also go to church so weekends are not a good time. I have a day off in the week, and one of the DCs goes to bed nice and early, so it's not hard.

TheLongRider · 27/02/2021 18:34

Ok, with three kids it's considerably more difficult. Best of luck with couch to 50km. What's the furthest you've ever cycled?

drspouse · 27/02/2021 18:41

I think maybe 20k? But not for a while. Though I did 17k the other day.

drspouse · 27/02/2021 18:41

I tell a lie, I did 50 miles in a day when I was 16. But that was in another millennium!

TheLongRider · 27/02/2021 18:53

50 miles is not to be sneezed at! Even if it was half a lifetime ago. You can do it! It's a six week programme isn't it? Bring a small bag of jellies or whatever treat gets you round. I eat one every 5km and make sure I drink in between on my long rides. Also if you're worried about not getting home again on the longer rides, do them as loops near your house.

On New Year's Eve I did 45km in 5km loops around local roads to finish off a challenge. I got a puncture, walked the mile home, changed it, and went back out to finish off the ride.

drspouse · 27/02/2021 18:55

It's 8 weeks, and I fancy flapjack! Need some Velo Vixen pants though.
