All welcome

Yeah, going to be icy tomorrow. And I do not live anywhere where they grit! We have the occasional street light...

kingsassassin · 19/01/2020 10:08

After a very bad week (too much work, too many meetings, too many biscuits) I had a fantastic run on Friday lunchtime and another this morning. Bit slow as it was icy but glorious fresh crisp day.

We have a beautiful canal very nearby which is paved for quite a distance so not impassable muddy. My favourite route is still underwater though! Swans were happily swimming round it yesterday!!

11 km this morning with Dh

61.5/ 938.5

Longest one yet this year, and apart from an occasional twinge, my hamstring was ok. Will see how it is now for a few days. Boxing tomorrow, then I will try to do a 5 on Tuesday morning as I have a sports massage on Tuesday pm so will then need a few days off.

Something over 19 miles today. I was a bit sore for a while, which worried me at the time, I think it's the change in heel drop in these shoes as other muscles that normally get sore weren't. Plus I needed a lot of core strength to not slide on my bum. Grin

Going to see if I can get a sports massage later this week to head off any issues at the pass.

How is your ankle Nothing?

ErrolTheDragon · 19/01/2020 17:05

8.9km - we'd intended to go for a proper hill walk in the Dales today, one which the dog isn't allowed on as we thought maybe the old boy would like a rest day. But having looked at the fog forecasts this morning we went to Formby instead.
The dog led us enthusiastically if indirectly up into the dunes, we let him follow his nose. basically he behaves like a young dog on sand and soft sandy paths.

104.8/895.2 - first 100km done, not fast or long but steadily. If I can keep up this average I should be able to get to 2000km in the year

NothingIsWrong · 19/01/2020 18:06

I didn't run in the end. I went for a good long walk with Thing 2, he likes a good walking natter and will empty his brain (he's 9) so I like doing it. No ankle twinges so I'm going to take my kit to work tomorrow and try a slow 5k on the canal path at lunch. Fingers crossed!

I am itching to run!

Lovely cold blue sky cross terrain run this morning real mix of sand, mud, icy mud and nearly skated across a lane that was an ice rink. Great to get 14k done before a sports massage to remove all the niggles I just clocked up.

Running 90km
Swimming 3.5k
Cycling 45km

Fullyhuman · 20/01/2020 14:38

14 miles last week: 12.5 walked, 1.5 rowed.
1984 to go.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/01/2020 16:36

It's easier in metric Grin

4.6 km, we'd intended to do more but morning derailed by the freezer going on the blink (fortunately not much in it post Xmas) and then when we did go out DHs tendon started playing up again. He can't use anything like ibuprofen or aspirin and even ice packs aren't available thanks to the freezer.Hmm

Got up and ready for parkrun only to find it cancelled due to the frost! It runs along the concrete edge of a lake so gets pretty slippy in icy conditions.
Managed a 5k in the rain on Friday and a 10k in glorious cold but sunny conditions on Sunday. Felt good to do first run of over 5k for the year.

30.11 miles of walking done this week! Not what I wanted but I'll take it all the same!

5km with a little bit of slow running.

114.4/885.6

NothingIsWrong · 21/01/2020 16:22

Slow 10km, couple of niggles from my ankle in the first few km, but once I was properly warm it was fine. So super happy with that!

Takes me to 108/1600 done. First 100km!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/01/2020 16:30

5km today

66.5/ 934.5

Finally, I am started to feel pain free. Honestly, after 4 months of pain I genuinely thought it might never get better but gradual improvement coupled with massage and strength training has really helped.

I now feel like an old wizened runner when I hear these young 'uns laughing about how they never stretch and never foam roll and run in converse...it makes me wince! I definitely caused my injury by overtraining and under-recovering and it very nearly caused me to have to stop entirely.

Will try for a short-ish run tomorrow and 5k Parkrun on Saturday.

I have my first ever sports massage booked this week! Does anyone have any advice for what should I wear?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2020 21:35

A lovely 10k today. Literally ice underfoot at times which added a little extra something Confused
I did nothing yesterday, just a bit of a stretch. Seemed like a proper rest was sensible.

I've got a sports massage booked in. I wear shortish running shorts for leg (I'll pop some trackie bottoms on over) When I'm having neck, shoulders it doesn't matter what I wear cos the top comes off and he undoes my bra.

FrangipaniBlue · 21/01/2020 21:43

So far I'm up to 174 miles so on target for 200 month Smile

Cycle 103
Run 28
Walk 40
Swim 2

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/01/2020 22:29

@Traffy I just wear tracksuit bottoms because they ask you to take them off (so just underwear and top), just like with any other massage really. She only does my legs though.

1895 to do. Started a running thing this week so mileage will increase. Hopefully

Traffy · 22/01/2020 07:56

thenewaveragebear1983

Thanks for that! Never had any kind of massage before to it's a brave new world for me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2020 08:30

I would mention that you've not had a massage before. If it's sore when they do it, speak out. Mine can be quite sore, but it shouldn't be agony.
