After doing this successfully now for 2 years I thought I'd start the 2020 thread

All welcome

We were intending to do the same as yesterday but misjudged the weather - half way round the loop - fortunately long oval so not far back to the car at that point - the heavens opened, rain and hail more horizontal than vertical.
So just 3 km

Jumbojem · 18/02/2020 20:12

I'm eeking out the distance so slowly what with work and the weather.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/02/2020 07:52

5.5k this morning, slow but surprisingly almost pain free barring a little stiffness in my calf.

I missed the chance to get out before the rain set in because I had to wait for a parcel.Hmm
So 5km rower.

253.3
So that's a quarter, sixth or eighth of the way towards whatever I retrospectively decide my target is.Grin

TriSkiRun99 · 19/02/2020 16:29

Does roller skating count? Grin had a skate with the kids on a local seafront. Did a couple kms didn’t aggravate the shin splints.

Running 134km
Swimming 6km
Cycling 115km
Rollerskating 2km Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 19/02/2020 16:41

I don't see why not - sounds great! I'm accumulating my rowing distances in with walking because they feel like similar effort per km to me (rowing is harder work but takes less time).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/02/2020 16:47

@TriSkiRun99 I am seriously considering getting some roller blades, especially because DD (16) told me that I am way too old to rollerblade (I'm 36) and I told her not only would I rollerblade but I'd do it in hotpants Grin

TriSkiRun99 · 19/02/2020 17:22

The blades are faster than quads (which I’ve got, DH has blades) I’ve had mine for 7years Grin we all skate it’s great fun do it!

TriSkiRun99 · 19/02/2020 18:24

And I’m 11yrs older than you bear 🤣my DDs like skating with me it’s “still cool”, I’m hoping my nearly teenage won’t disown me skating next year.

Inniu · 19/02/2020 20:57

No running at all for me this week because we are skiing for half term but the difference running has made to my fitness and ability to ski is huge.

TriSkiRun99 · 19/02/2020 21:09

We go skiing at the end of March and I can’t wait. DH & I are both really run fit this time just hope my shin pain settles.

Got 50L done in the pool tonight which felt good after not been for 2.5wks. Did lots of kicking in the hope it compensates for the lack of running.

Running 134km
Swimming 7.25km
Cycling 115km
Rollerskating 2km

ErrolTheDragon · 20/02/2020 16:11

We got a break in the rain, so 5.4 km in the park by the river, which is very full and fast. We couldn't do the route we'd intended because a bridge over a tributary creek was out, its foundations on one side almost completely destroyed.

258.7

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2020 21:30

Bit behind, but I've managed to squeeze in another 27 miles since my last update. It's getting increasingly hard to find paths that aren't either underwater or a swamp. 258/842 miles.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/02/2020 11:29

10 km for me today,
165/835

I've not run much this week but I felt strong today, I think a week of strength training and yoga has done me good. Slight heavy feeling in the hamstring but no pain

OP posts:
TriSkiRun99 · 21/02/2020 14:47

Hope the run doesn’t aggregate the hamstring bear.

Swim with kids and yoga today.

Running 134km
Swimming 8km
Cycling 115km
Rollerskating 2km

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2020 14:48

Ahem, I seem to have had a numbers break down. oops! Grin I swear my mind has turned into a sack of potatoes this week.
Add in a 10 mile swamp run. Getting a bit ouchy on the shin below my knee though. One more long run then I can taper before my race.

268/732.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2020 15:51

Damn, I thought I was on level pegging with you.Grin
Another 5km on the rower. I think I've caught up with The Archers.

263.7

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2020 21:42

Shock we have a competition going. Grin
not really, I'll be backing off a bit soon! I need to. Been icing my leg and voltarol on it tonight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/02/2020 22:10

Was just saying to Dh: literally every runner, everywhere- all injured. After a while we forget that we're injured and it just becomes normal, but seriously. All injured. It's like the creeping body-rot, a different bit hurts every day!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/02/2020 22:20

Why do we do this to ourselves? It seems a bit crackers!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/02/2020 23:04

Yeah and we say things like 'it hurts but it's not painful' and that means it's ok to go and run 6 miles in the wind and rain. Because it's not^^ like it actually hurts. It's just painful.

'Tis different, see Grin

OP posts:
TriSkiRun99 · 22/02/2020 08:32

I can cope with the aches and do yoga daily to cope with that but I’ve been forced to listen to the pain as you really take it for granted “I’ll just go run 3m /5k” then suddenly just walking to the shops or walking 5mins to school is painful. Im really missing doing ParkRun this morning especially as DH and DD eldest have gone Sad my youngest had a crap night so she doesn’t want to walk it with me and I really do need to have another week off running. I’ll go sit on the bike in the shed instead I think but it’s SO boring.
Hope you all enjoy your runs this weekend Smile

SpringFan · 22/02/2020 09:24

I kn8ow I am wasting my time, but please don't run through your injuries.
30 years on from doing that, i will never run any sort of distance again, the cross trainer is my limit and walking. Running through knee pain and tight calves or ITB led to long term damage. To make matters worse I can't take oral anti inflammatory meds so in a few years time I will be stuffed.
Not had a good 2 weeks, sole gone on my walking trainers, DH in hospital, wind, rain, gloopy mud. Will total up later. I am just about hanging in here.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/02/2020 09:31

I have Bluetooth headphones and my iPod for the rower, but DH doesn't find that enough for indoor exercise so he mounted a cheap TV on the wall of the garage (we've a double, one half is mostly occupied by the rower and an elliptical machine). He plays DVDs, and prefers not to use headphones so there's a sound bar too. His favoured viewing - because they're interesting but doesn't matter if your attention slips are train journeys ... he's got most of Michael Portillo's. Upside is that he now knows random stuff about all sorts of places, downside is the garage is below my office so I get the bloody diddle-diddle-diddle music.HmmGrin

An example of extreme measures to facilitate exercise!

Thanksfor all you suffering runners.
