After doing this successfully now for 2 years I thought I'd start the 2020 thread

All welcome

@SpringFan I do get what you're saying but I think there is a fine line, if we never ran if something was twinging, we'd never run. I did have 3 weeks off in December to rest it. This year I'm definitely running less, both less often and less distance.

Presumably it can depend on the nature of the injury?

A couple of rounds of the WWT today - the paths through the reedbeds are pretty much causeways and managing wetlands is what they do. (Wellies were required by small people, there was a well-attended puddle jumping contest)

Yeah you are all right- there is a line between ignoring pain and susequent injury and "working it off" carefully. Also when I started running ( first half marathon in 1982!) there wasn't the emphasis on, or availability of, good shoes, well padded socks etc.
Thank you for the flowers Errol.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2020 17:56

I'm sorry that you are suffering and have suffered Spring . I'll think about what you've said, I would like to be able to keep running into my dotage.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/02/2020 18:13

@SpringFan one thing I definitely do more of now since being injured is stretching and resting. When I first started out I did neither very well. Now I watch other new starters and beg them to heed my warning but they never do!

Hi all, I was wiped out for 3 weeks with a nasty virus and I've had to build back up, then immediately suffered with painful knees. I'd gotten very lazy with stretching/strength, my quads were so tight. Loads better now, lesson learned, never skip stretching or strengthening exercises. Even when you're running loads less!

I hope I can catch some mileage up: 113/887

Springfan thank you. You aren’t talking in vain. I’m barely running at all atm bc of injury and I am trying to be careful as I manage my recovery - so difficult to get the balance right. My tendency is to be too scared of pain and not do enough and then dramatically lose stamina and strength.

Hello everyone - I'm still going. Miserable start to feb with a cold and flat out at work. We took the DCs to Centre parcs in the Netherlands for half term and I made the most of the wonderful paths. 30km over half term and another 13 km this morning which was really horrible - like running into a wall with the wind. 125/ 875.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/02/2020 18:42

Well done those still going (but without exacerbating injuries) despite adversity.

Today was a game of two halves here weatherwise - pissing down this morning but some sun PM. So we got out and found a new path in a local nature reserve on the edge of the next town which let us explore a loop we'd not done before.

I didn't get out quite soon enough so got caught in a rain and hail storm. However, sufficient goretex and the wind was behind me so it wasn't too bad, it didn't las long and my jeans were dry by the time I got home.

My first 10K in 3 weeks. Surprised myself with 56.26. Now I have to see if I can repeat that in a timed race.

@Inniu I did 10k today for the first time in weeks too, bloody well done for 56.26! I was very chuffed with my 01:09.40, slow but steady :)

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2020 16:04

It take me about that long to walk my 5km, Inniu , I'm a whole other level of 'slow and steady' #tortoiseGrin

TriSkiRun99 · 27/02/2020 10:15

I’m still here just fed up still on enforced run break 14d now, and half term colds all round which have dragged into this week so very little exercise for me just a couple of walks around the block which I don’t track. Hopefully by next week I can pick the exercise back up again and make myself go cycle in the shed!

Running 134km
Swimming 8km
Cycling 115km

That must be so frustrating.

Windy but quite sunny for a while here, today's path was very puddly so glad I had boots on.
