New thread all Smile

plink I love the circuit workouts but they always fool me into thinking they are going to be easy but they hurt!! Shoulder intervals are definitely the easiest of them all and there for my favourites Grin

Congratulations @PlinkPlink. What lovely nerws. Enjoy these special first weeks. x

Purpleraindeer · 22/06/2020 10:34

Wow congrats plink!!
Back to back, hand up and big baby. You are hardcore. There is no way any Bbod workout is going to feel difficult after that!
Enjoy those first magic few days Smileand have lots of Cake

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2020 13:28

Purple re your calves - Random suggestion as usual from me here. Maybe if you have been going barefoot at home more because of lockdown it could be worth trying wearing inside shoes (alongside already recommended stretches etc). On days where I have lost my clog things under a sofa or whatever and have been going barefoot downstairs more my calves feel a bit tighter when I get up next morning. Barefoot on carpet is ok so if you have carpet ignore this suggestion. This could just be me because of plantar fasciitis though.

Totally agree with you all re Tania 🙄

Let me know if you want to try hammer and chisel again at some point due

Reastie I decided to do a short barre workout 1 today - I though you were joking about fondue 😂

Purpleraindeer · 22/06/2020 18:57

Poppy I was thinking the same about bare foot. I’m wearing Birkenstock’s inside now to see if it helps. Read loads of depressing articles about Achilles’ tendonitis and how hard it is to sort it so will be doing lots of stretches, exercises and foam roller for the next week to see if that helps. Will also cut out mid week run Sad.

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2020 21:12

Purple fingers crossed a few small things and temporary changes will help it to resolve quickly x

Purpleraindeer · 24/06/2020 16:30

Did the work ‘crucible’ workout again today. First move was 75 burpees with a press up!! Shock followed by 7 other moves each with 75 reps and elbow plank crawls in between. I was all floppy and tired afterwards so I realised doing it at lunchtime in the middle of a workday was a mistake! Enjoyed the super hardcore feel of it though

And - the cast are terrible at cardio. I beat them on my reps for the cardio moves and I’m not THAT fit. It is fair to say I didn’t manage to keep up with them on 75 diamond push ups though Grin

PlinkPlink · 24/06/2020 19:24

Thank you everyone Grin

The adrenaline is starting to wear off a little but still really enjoying these early days.l

I'll check back in again soon. Keep up the good work with the workouts and nutrition xx

Reastie · 24/06/2020 20:31

Purple you’re not that fit....yet you could run a marathon. IMO that classes you as super fit!

Yumy 😁 to fondue. When they did the splits in the cool down stretch I kind of wondered if this was the kind of workout I’d never quite belong in!

Plink the first few days and weeks are a mess with hormones, take care, glad you’re enjoying it.

The 2lbs I lost in lockdown I seem to have done a very good job at putting on already since back to work this month (not surprised tbh, eating more and having to be more sedentary whilst working. Just as well one more week until holidays!

dueindecember10 · 25/06/2020 06:43

@Purpleraindeer - That sounds utterly brutal! Well done.

I am a bit gutted that Boris didn't deliver good news about gyms but understandable. Makes me very glad of my BBOD subscription. Would be lost if I didn't have that to keep me going. I am also wondering how I ever fitted the gym in when you take into account the travel time and faffing about!

Purpleraindeer · 27/06/2020 19:45

I’ve never understood going to the gym - it seems a lot of faff and then you’re in a room breathing in everyone else’s sweat. The only time I did was when I lived in London and it was on my way home from work so no faff. Maybe a nice posh gym would seem more attractive Smile

Decided not to run at all this week Sad Achilles still sore. I’m doing all the exercises and stretches so hopefully it is getting a bit better. I’m still doing The Work. I’ve definitely built some muscle from it. Shame the muscle is covered with a layer of corona fat

Theromanempire · 28/06/2020 09:39

purple your description of The Work is not selling it to me at all - that many burpees is my absolute idea of hell!! Sorry your achilles is playing up - it really is the one joint/muscle that you cannot take risks with though isn't it?

So I took the plunge and stepped on the scales yesterday morning for the first time in nearly 3 months Blush I have put on a stone - which is annoying but not as bad as I thought it might be. I am now heavier than I have been for 2 years Sad but I feel better for facing it head on and not trying to delude myself that I hadn't put weight on by wearing elasticated waist trousers - damn working from home allowing me to do that! At least I know and feel a bit more motivated to do something about it. Back on Team RH - although I still struggle to get my protein requirements due to only shopping once a week and being absolutely awful at meal planning!

Reastie · 28/06/2020 16:06

Thermo the best step imo is that initially weighing in so you can’t put your head in the sand so well done for biting the bullet and doing it. I often find once I’ve done that after the initial misery I am better motivated. I’m the same as you, purple is not selling the work to me at all!

Purple be careful. Are there specific exercises you can do to build strength to help the pain?

I’m increasingly frustrated with the only days I can fit in working out being 3 days in a row. Means no rest days then 4 days of rest days. I hanker for the times I’d work out 5 or 6 times a week and how fit and strong I felt.

Yesterday I did 6k run in about 40 minutes, which is slow by my old pace but it felt challenging and I enjoyed it. Today I did 45 min athletic step class on lmod and did it in Ds’ room as it’s the most empty room in the house atm. So much more fun not having to spend the whole time making sure I modify moves not to bang into furniture. Felt like I worked my glutes too. Tomorrow maybe do barre again or possibly cycle ride or body balance.

Tried on 2 pre preg dresses today (have a family occasion next month) and they both do up (hurrah) but they don’t fit properly and look unflattering, but after dd where at this point I was 5 stone heavier and 3 dress sizes bigger than my pre preg self I’m taking the fact the zip up as some kind of win. Hope I can find something appropriate that fits properly though!

Theromanempire · 29/06/2020 09:33

Reastie thanks, I do feel better at least knowing how big the problem is and it has certainly helped me get my head in the right place! I know I can do it having lost 3 stone previously so I just need to keep focused! Well done on the dresses - that is quite an achievement even if you don't like how they look. My experience was that I was ok after pregnancy number 1 but piled the weight on during pregnancy number 2 and afterwards and could not lose it so you have done amazingly well Smile

I had a quick look at the new sample workout on BBOD today - MBF (Muscle Burns Fat). It looks really good - focused on weightlifting but with cardio spikes in it. However, the programme is 3 weeks at 7 days a week and I am just not sure I can commit to that many workouts each week. Also, there is another BOD product which you 'need' to buy so another total marketing con and interestingly, she clearly filmed it after quarantine in the US so the cast are all doing it from their own homes via Zoom which in time, will make it historically interesting I think.

dueindecember10 · 30/06/2020 06:54

@Purpleraindeer - How is your Achilles doing? Hope you are on the mend.

@Theromanempire - Well done on facing the scales. I always dread it but I often feel better for knowing what the damage is so I can focus on making a change. I very much like the look of mbf but not sure whether it is worth paying for the early access. I am going to try the sample (have only watched it whilst eating chocolate so far) and see how I get on.

@Reastie Well done on getting into the dresses and the running achievements!

I've got my last day of LIIFT4 today so will be trying something new next week. Not sure what I will do for the rest of this week. Maybe a bit of running and revisit some old favourites.

Reastie · 30/06/2020 07:16

I did barre workout again yesterday. I think I might give it one more go before giving up on it. I just don’t think I’m designed or inclined to be delicate and toe pointy, I’m not sure it’s my thing, but it’s good to give these things a go.

Hope plink is doing ok.

Thermo that is a big commitment. How long are the workouts? Is it something you could double up and do 2 in one day? Doing less than 7 will still have a positive effect.

Dueindecember I love revisiting old faves and picking what I fancy, really gives a feel good fun workout.

dueindecember10 · 30/06/2020 17:05

@reastie - Amy chance you could solve a mystery for me? I've heard people say barre is an amazing workout and you can really "feel the burn". But I don't get how this is possible with the teeny tiny weights they use. Having just finished LIIFT4 I am used to lifting fairly decent weights. Does it feel like you are working with little weights?

Reastie · 30/06/2020 17:53

I might not be the best person to ask dueindecember because I haven’t really been able to do weights properly for several years because of ongoing elbow injury (and before that a shoulder injury). I used 2kg weights for it and to me it wasn’t easy at all with those, but I don’t have good muscles atm anyway. I think if you have fantastic form it could be a good workout even with a light weight, but I’m not sure I’d put it in the category of being as transformative as something like bodypump or insanity. I think it’s the kind of thing that’s very easy to get form not quite on point and not get its full effects. A bit like Pilates can be in that respect iykwim.

Reastie · 30/06/2020 17:55

Thinking about it due, if I had done it a few years ago at my fittest I don’t think I would have found it a challenging workout at all. I think it could be with a ballet instructor pulling my form up though. It was too fast paced to focus on good form for just starting out, felt like I was in at the deep end without the basics. I liked some of the toning loves but I wouldn’t put them in a v challenging category

Purpleraindeer · 30/06/2020 19:01

Oh no I’m sorry I haven’t been selling the work to you all - it is really good. Quite manly though - lots of shouting and no fancy stuff in it. It is effective though. I did a great legs workout today with curtsy lunges which suddenly seem totally manageable.

Achilles seems a bit better. I’m now sore in the morning but can actually walk which is progress!

Well done on biting the bullet and weighing in roman. You’ve encouraged me to do the same. You know exactly what to do to lose it again so I’ve got every confidence in you!

I will look at MBF. No way I’m paying for early access though. Why don’t you do 6dpw and skip the recovery workout? Or just do your normal number of workout days and just let the programme take longer. That’s what I do - I used to be 3dpw of workouts and 2dpw of runs so all programs just take twice as long.

Well done on the dresses reastie! I bet your normal shape comes back. I had a very strange tummy for ages afterwards. It’s (mostly) normal now!

dueindecember10 · 01/07/2020 08:25

@Reastie - thanks for clarifying.

@Purpleraindeer - I completed the mbf sample today and really enjoyed it. Was a nice balance between strength and cardio which I like. I am now considering early access but seems a bit of a waste when there are so many other programs on BBOD already. I was looking to do a sample workout of The Work too but couldn't find one although have found ones for 10 rounds and mbf. I wonder if the samples are just to tempt you into shelling out for the programs only available on early access.

dueindecember10 · 04/07/2020 07:02

@Purpleraindeer - I managed to find the sample for The Work. Started the program properly yesterday. Really enjoyed it so far and the tough love is good for me!

Purpleraindeer · 04/07/2020 18:25

I’m glad you enjoyed The Work. It is a really great programme I think, particularly if you want to build strength. The cardio workouts are a bit disappointing just to warn you.

I’m nearly finished it. I think i will do it again when I’m finished! Smile

Reastie · 08/07/2020 06:21

I need trainer purchasing advice please if you don’t mind. I usually go to a running shop and they check my gait and I pay extra for those special inner soles they mould to your feet. I’m desperate for new trainers (mine have massive holes in now) but I’m avoiding shops. I don’t know what size to get though as so,times I’m bigger than my usual I’m trainers. I want to get new balance as I’ve had 3 pairs and always been v happy with them but my new balance old trainers are so old the size is worn out from them! I have 2 other pairs of trainers, one is 7 and one is 7.5, so I don’t know what size to buy! Also, (sorry, more questions) does anyone have headphones that are the sort that (I forget the term) sit outside next to your ear and vibrate the sound into your ear? Thinking of getting a pair as they sound amazing but just wondered if anyone had any feedback.

Quick run yesterday. Got stitch again so rubbish speed and distance but better than sitting on the sofa. Today I’m hoping to do some toning bits freestyle if Ds will let me. I’m thinking squats, lunches, core work and as much glute work as I can manage.

Purple are you noticing a difference in fitness from the work? Surely it must have a great effect

Purpleraindeer · 09/07/2020 10:48

Hi reastie
I’m glad you posted as it got really quiet on here again!
Sorry to hear re your stitch. They’re awful aren’t they? I went through a period of always getting them and they just ruin a good run. Sad
I don’t get a gait analysis anymore as you only really need it once. I go on amazon and buy the same brand and model each time. Could you take the inner soles out of your old trainers and just put them in your new ones? On size, I’d err on getting the bigger size not the smaller one. Apparently it’s better for your feet to have lots of room in your shoes. You’ve prompted me to buy some new shoes now though - thank you!

I don’t think I’m fitter from the work (in fact I’m probably less fit as the cardio isn’t great) but I’m a lot stronger. The tester will be when I do the crucible workout this week and I start with 100 burpee/press ups!

Went for a run last night. Achilles seems a bit better. Must try not to ruin all my good work by immediately resuming all my mileage and going back to square one again!

Hope you’re all well Smile

Reastie · 12/07/2020 15:40

Thanks purple, sorry not for replying sooner. I don’t know what model I’ve had but I’ve had a few pairs of new balance before so I’m going to take a punt with them and hope. How are your new shoes going? Hoping the Achilles is ok.

Hope everyone’s getting along ok. I did a 40 min run yesterday and today I did a dance step aerobics zoom class with my old teacher. First time doing very routine based step in years and loved it! So much fun. It went so quick and didn’t feel like I was exercising as was enjoying it so much. Didn’t get all the choreography so made it a bit simpler, but I bumbled along. Am hoping she continues this for a while and it doesn’t stop as soon as gyms reopen.
