New thread all Smile

plink I love the circuit workouts but they always fool me into thinking they are going to be easy but they hurt!! Shoulder intervals are definitely the easiest of them all and there for my favourites Grin

I can’t remember who asked about whether the legs workouts from the more weight lifting programs give a good workout if you’re fit from cardio and HIIT workouts. I’m posting to report that I did a legs workout from The work on Tuesday and I’m still super sore in my bum and hamstrings and struggling on the stairs! So, I can safely say these workouts are challenging!

Dueindecember - I’m an emerging ultra runner too - I did 2 in the last 9mths and was going to do race to the stones in July but it was cancelled. Sad I had the same experience in running - I ran a lot for years but fell out of love with it. In the last 2 or 3 years the enjoyment has come back and I’m really enjoying the ultras mostly because the pressure for pbs and split times doesn’t apply in the same way

dueindecember10 · 11/06/2020 12:49

@purpleraindeer - I did Race to the King last year (and another 2 local ones). Hopefully my love for running will come back eventually.

I will make a note of that leg workout as not finding LIIFT4 very 'leggy' and that's my problem area. I'm enjoying the definition it's giving my shoulders though! Would be nice to add in a leg workout when time allows.

Purpleraindeer · 11/06/2020 19:00

Was race to the king good? I was so gutted that rtts was cancelled. I had down some much lower key ones so I was looking forward to a big event one. I was doing the camping package. Oh well. Next year.

I think if lift isn’t giving you enough of a leg workout you need to increase your weights. I used 8kg and 12.5kg if that helps?

dueindecember10 · 11/06/2020 20:08

Race to the king properly broke me but I'm glad I completed it. The feed stations were brilliant and it was a really well run race. The hills were a killer. I might give it another go next year when the memories have faded!

I think I would prefer it if LIIFT4 had 2 lower body days instead of 3 upper and 1 lower. It is probably my only minor gripe with the program as I love the instruction, the length of the workouts and basically everything else about it. It really has been a lockdown lifesaver. Not sure how anything else is going to live up to it but that won't stop me trying out some of the BBOD offerings.

Reastie · 13/06/2020 19:26

Can anyone recommend a good workout to really target my glutes? I keep getting lower back pain which I’m fairly certain is because my glutes are rubbish (I’ve had this issue historically). I don’t have liift but do have most of thr bb classics. Wondering about p90x legs???

Theromanempire · 13/06/2020 22:22

reastie initial thoughts are Barre Fix (one of the bonus 21df workouts) which is all body weight exercises focusing on legs and bum - really simple but very effective. Also, do you have 80 DO? There is a different glutes workout each week - totally focused on your bottom!!

OP posts:
Reastie · 14/06/2020 16:15

Thanks thermo. Have you got disco lights you can stick on for your clubbasise?! I have 21 do dvds but have never really done them as I got put off by autumn! Not sure if I have that bonus one and don’t have bbod. Don’t have 80DO either! I need to get up to date with my bb!!! I ended going for a 10 mile cycle, which I kmow isn’t a big ride for cyclists but it was a v good distance for me with my epically slow speed. Tomorrow will be legs day!! Will hunt out my 21df.

Purpleraindeer · 14/06/2020 21:37

Reastie - you need one with lots of squats. Do you have p90x3? You could try that legs one? If not, what about looking to see if you could do a 30 day trial for bbod and you could do lift? 10mile cycle is great. No way I could do that. Hope your bum isn’t too sore tomorrow Grin

Felt exhausted on sat so no long run. Sad really didn’t want to go as felt so tired, but then was really disappointed I didn’t get out there. Did wk3 strength workout today which was excellent. There were some new moves I’ve not done before. I really like it - there are lots of compound exercises which means you get a full body workout most days. the cardio/endurance ones are my least favourite as they’re really repetitive. I think they’re designed for athletes so they’re like training drills. I do enjoy watching the big muscly guys struggle with them though!

Dueindecember - I think the work would suit you actually as there is a better balance of legs and upper body than in lift.

dueindecember10 · 15/06/2020 06:20

@Purpleraindeer Thanks for that. I might use a rest day this week to try a little sample. Only got a few weeks left of LIIFT4 and keen to have a plan lined up as has really helped me with motivation to follow a plan. Don't want to just drift when I finish!

yumyumpoppycat · 15/06/2020 08:16

Hi all and welcome show of hands!

Up early today as trying to do my workout before the kids are up - too easy for me to let the workout go undone otherwise.

Purple the work sounds amazing well done on getting a workout done at the weekend. Were you exhausted because of exercise during the week or other stuff?

Lovely to hear from you plink 💕

Reastie I can't recommend a workout but let me know what you go with and I might reluctantly join you - I hate legs workouts but it's a big weakness for me.

Hope everyone has a happy Monday - beautiful blue sky right now

dueindecember10 · 15/06/2020 09:13

@yumyumpoppycat - well done on your workout! What was your workout of choice today?

yumyumpoppycat · 15/06/2020 09:25

Due in - I did lmod body balance (yoga/Pilates) as went to bed late and couldn't handle cardio Blush - I actually find body balance really hard though! I think you are right about a plan/ structure helping. Planning body balance, body combat, body pump and body attack this week from les mills

dueindecember10 · 15/06/2020 13:39

Body balance is very deceptive. I used to find it ok at the time but would be in agony for a few days after!

Reastie · 15/06/2020 20:21

Yumy that’s like my dream workout week! I agree, body balance is hard! But I love it too. It’s weird because I don’t feel like I’ve worked out afterwards but at the time it feels really difficult. I always feel calmer and better in myself.

Purple sorry for no run but glad strength training was good.

I ended out taking dd for a cycle in my workout time, which didn’t count as a workout due to the v slow pace! But when we came back I did a 10 minute legs body pump (no weights though, my legs are so weak it was hard enough without weights!) then a balance track from body balance just for fun! So I feel like I’ve done something at least. Going to try to do a few core moves tomorrow if I can as need to work on that.

yumyumpoppycat · 18/06/2020 17:52

Reastie I feel like we are experiencing the same thing with legs. I am always a bit taken aback when workouts instruct to go super heavy for weighted squats! I remember purple did suggest it could be an imbalance in leg strength or something? It seems especially strange for you to find this problem given that you cycle and also exercise more consistently than me.

Duein you are so right about body balance being deceptive- I thought it would be a good thing intro workout ... er I don't think so!

I did a hammer and chisel dvd workout the other day as fire stick remote was out of batteries- sagi really is pretty annoying! Have ticked off bb, bc and ba so will try and do body pump by end of week. Feels good getting up and getting workout done before kids are up.

Hope everyone is ok!

Reastie · 19/06/2020 06:15

Yumy historically I’ve had a lot of problems with weak glutes, I’m pretty sure that’s what the problem is now. My legs are relatively strong but my glutes are so weak and my form automatically adjusts to put pressure on other areas not my glutes (I’ve been told my running form is bad for my knees because of the way I run to avoid using my glutes properly). I think I need to really focus on them.

Meanwhile, I was nosing at Tania ‘the machine’s insta page this morning and am so confused about this picture of her. I can’t work it out. Is the bottom of her swim suit skin colour or is this a photo shop gone wrong? And if it’s photoshop, I guess I’m naive, but photoshopping holiday snaps for someone selling effectively their body shape as an example of what you can achieve to encourage people to do bb workouts feels like cheating.

Purpleraindeer · 20/06/2020 09:29

Hello! Surely everything that any Bb coach posts on insta is fake or photoshopped? They’re selling a lifestyle so it can’t be anything less than perfect. This is why I would never use insta as I think it would make me feel quite inadequate!

I agree - Body balance is always hard- I used to use the P90x3 isometrix workout for my ‘easy’ one and it was always impossible and left me dying by the end! I think my core isn’t as strong as it could be so those workouts kill me

After long run fail last weekend I decided to take advantage of the light evenings and did 11m on Monday evening. Was a nice end to the day. I’ve noticed I’ve got very tight calves at the mo (can’t walk first thing Shock) so am stretching like mad but it is disheartening and also quite painful. Am on week 4 of the work. I think the even weeks are the hard ones as the workout I did last time with the 50burpees is coming up. It’s much worse knowing what is coming!

Hope you guys are well. Feeling a bit low at the moment (work stuff) so am hoping some fresh air and exercise will cheer me up over the weekend. Smile

dueindecember10 · 21/06/2020 06:47

@Purpleraindeer - Well done on your run and sorry to hear about the calves. Have you got a foam roller as that can help? (although very painful!

@yumyumpoppycat - I must revisit H&C. I think I dipped in and out but didn't ever complete the program (even though I bought the DVDs).

@Reastie - I have weak glutes too. A common problem in people in office jobs as the glutes get lazy according to my old Crossfit instructor.

I am due to start Week 7 of LIIFT today. Don't know where the time has gone! Need to give some serious thought to the next program. Maybe 21DFE. Tried MM100 but wasn't wild about that. Also considering 80DO but think I prefer shorter sharper workouts. Any other suggestions? Remit is workouts of under an hour pref under 45 mins) with a strength component.

Reastie · 21/06/2020 09:57

Thinking of plink, it’s v close to her due date. Hope everything goes well with the home birth plink!

Purple I’m sorry about work stuff, I hope it sorts itself out soon. Life is stressful enough atm. Fresh air and exercise I hope will cheer you up. How are you doing now?

Due not sure what to recommend as I’m doing lmod atm. From my bb dvd library (haven’t bought anything from them in about 3 years though) T25 and p90x3 are both quite short and have strength. Or maybe try a liift hybrid program with other workouts?

I thought I’d give barre on lmod a go this morning after plink suggested it. I tried it once about 4 years ago and was useless and gave up but it said it was good for posture and core and strength so decided to try again. It was a good workout but I just felt like an elephant trying to do ballet! There were so many positions and things that I didn’t really know tchnique and was a struggle to work out form whilst doing it. I’m not exactly a very delicate person and I’m used to clumpy jumpy workouts. I sort of felt like it alternated with being confusing and a bit easy like I was doing something wrong, and insanely hard. I do think it worked my glutes though, and I’m looking forward to seeing if I ache in the morning! I’m going to keep trying it though as I often find when I try a new workout the first couple of times or so it’s just finding my feet and working it out then I can really push myself and work harder. I just felt so ridiculous pointing my toes and trying to work out what they meant when they would give instructions like ‘Demi position derrière fondue’ or something!

dueindecember10 · 21/06/2020 10:55

Thanks @Reastie - I love t25 so that may be worth revisiting with heavier weights than last time I tried. People on BBOD Facebook page rave about Barre blend but I’m not sure I get it. I don’t know how people seem to be getting amazing results with teeny tiny weights but maybe I should try to see what all the fuss is about! It’s a nice problem to have trying to choose from so many great options! I’m not sure how graceful I would be but that is the benefit of working out at home - no one can see my elephantesque moves!

Theromanempire · 21/06/2020 13:16

Hi everyone

Reastie I agree with Purple that the whole point of the BB coach pyramid scheme is to sell a particular lifestyle so it does not surprise me one bit that Tania would be photoshopping herself. Very disappointing but it may just be a trick of the light and the strange angle (giving her the benefit of the doubt Hmm) but it does look very peculiar! That is why I stopped following her - it was all just so artificial and 'look at me, I am so wonderful and my life is just perfect'. Interesting about you trying Barre - I have been considering Barre Blend but, like you, am not in the slightest bit elegant or delicate so not sure that I would like it. Plus there is not a chance that DH would agree to do Barre Blend with me!

purple hope your calves are ok today and the stretching works. Just need to be really careful with your achilles aswell.

dueindecember I agree that T25 would fit your criteria - it is an all-round good programme isn't it? Haven't done it for ages as there have been other programmes that BBOD keep bringing out that seem I prefer. Plus Shaun T does annoy me a bit now - much prefer Joel's style of training!

Plink hope everything is going ok and baby plink arrives safely (or has already arrived) Smile

Not much exercise here this week - spent all last weekend painting the lounge and then DH kept finishing work late this week so it got too late to work out - plus constant football on the TV is making it even harder! Managed 2 workouts in 7 days - not great Blush Must do better this week!

Hello hello...

She's here 🥰🥰🥰🥰

She arrived on Saturday morning at 01.02am.
Early labour was from 4am on Sat. Contractions all day about 20 minutes apart.
4cm at 11.30pm. Delivered 90 mins later
Back to back and hand up by her face for delivery. Which fucking hurt... seriously. The combo of the fast dilation and the back to back... I thought I was being a right weakling thinking about hospital transfer and epidurals 🤣 then it made sense when she arrived 🤣🤣
Waters broke at last second like DS
And then a few pushes and she was out.

9lb 15oz!!! 😳😳😳😳

She is just perfectly gorgeous (total bias I know 😂). I'm totally mesmerised!

Hope you're all doing well and keeping up the good work. I'll be getting back to it when I'm ready. For now, I'll be eating what the fuck I want, drinking whatever and taking it easy 😂

Reastie · 21/06/2020 20:43

Plink huge congrats, that’s fantastic news, so glad for you. 9 lbs 15 and back to back and hand over face? Ouch for you! Sounds like it all happened quite quickly in the end though. Enjoy not being pg! Don’t dash back into it, enjoy a rest with your LO.

Theromanempire · 21/06/2020 21:43

Congratulations plink 🥰👶 amazing with the delivery considering the back to back, hand up and the size!! Enjoy the lovely snuggles and we will all be here when you get back on the exercise bandwagon Smile
