New thread all Smile

plink I love the circuit workouts but they always fool me into thinking they are going to be easy but they hurt!! Shoulder intervals are definitely the easiest of them all and there for my favourites Grin

Hi!
Roman congrats on finishing 10 weeks (is that what it’s called?). It is impossible to lose weight at the moment, for me at least but building muscle has to be good for the day when we’re all allowed out again and we can move a bit more and burn some more calories. I can’t believe you’ve been into the office already - that was super fast. Ours are all still closed for the foreseeable future. They said they’ll be doing a deep clean before they can open - given the cost cutting on cleaning I think we might be very surprised when we see what a proper clean really does to the carpet!

I hope you sort your dilemma poppy - that is a tricky one - no wonder you’re thinking about it a lot. I had a total career change a while ago - i remember the agonising over it well.

All my exercise got messed up this weekend so I did my intervals run on sat and then had to do my long run today. Unsurprisingly my legs were really tired today so I cut my run short. Annoying.

I hope you all had good weekends!

Purpleraindeer · 19/05/2020 19:51

Did 4th work out of week 1 the work today. One of the blocks was 3x 15 inchworms going from plank to Sphinx at the bottom. I now have the most alarming (and rude looking Blush) carpet burns on my elbows!

yumyumpoppycat · 20/05/2020 19:16

Oh no purple! that sounds like a painful workout all round!

I have lost exercise mojo again but def going to do another workout tomorrow. Hope everyone is ok.

Theromanempire · 21/05/2020 09:33

Morning

So I have finished 10 Rounds - awesome!! But, my knees have been in a lot of pain throughout so I am wondering if there is something within the programme that puts pressure on knees. Somebody did ask that on the FB Joel group that he set up and he did respond saying that you are not twisting properly when punching but I am not sure what other way there is to rotate than the way I am doing it Grin

However, my weight has gone up a lot Blush damn lockdown!! I daren't step on the scales but I can see how my tummy looks and it is not pleasant. Need to get a grip and start calorie counting again. It is true - you cannot out exercise a bad diet!!

Yum any more thoughts on your career moves? This whole situation has turned a lot of peoples lives upside down but see it as an opportunity to find something you really want to do maybe?

Purple just the description of the sphinx's is enough to put me off that workout. I hate inchworms at the best of times without adding anything on the end Grin

My work have not forced me back - I am going in willingly once a week. I work for an organisation where we are all classed as keyworkers so the offices have been open throughout the crisis. I am struggling at home with the equipment as I literally only have my laptop and the screen is very small and the keyboard is not great so it is lovely to go to the office and be able to see without squinting and type properly - small things eh?

Hope you are all well Smile

Roman that's annoying about your knees. Drinking water and dropping carbs down seemed to help my knees a couple of weeks ago (this could be bollocks though - I have just eaten 4 slices of white toast with butter so that might test my theory tomorrow!)

I feel low on energy and crap right now it's annoying as I was on good form a week or 2 ago.

With job situation I did get invited to an interview but for lots of reasons including corona it wasn't right for me at the moment so I declined. Have applied for a ta job in a school rather than leap into teaching - fingers crossed. The only thing I am good at is reading but my SPAG is rubbish (hopefully good enough for early years teaching!), which rules out related careers! My attention to detail is also rubbish for data type jobs... sigh.

Hope your burns have recovered purple

Purpleraindeer · 23/05/2020 07:07

Hi all
I just finished week 1 of the work. Omg it lived up to its name. The workouts have been good but the doms has been horrendous! I’ve been waddling for 2 days after too many squats and lunges. I’ve had that ‘not being able to get out of a chair or pick things up off the floor’ feeling for days. Went out for an intervals run last night and could barely get my fast bits above a jog!

How annoying for you re your knees roman. Knee pain for me is always muscular - too tight muscles normally calves or bum. Or IT band (the tendon which goes down the outside of your thigh). Might be worth trying to stretch or foam roller if you have one.

Sorry to hear you’ve lost your mojo a bit poppy. I hate that. It always comes back but it’s frustrating. Glad you’re finding a way through on the job.

I saw something on mumsnet last night with loads of people commenting on how they had LOST weight during lockdown. How is that possible? Envy

Reastie · 24/05/2020 14:56

Thermo I’ve found some workouts really bad on my knees. It’s amazing when I got my physio to watch me doing some moves how much of a small tweak she made to me that made such a difference. She also was very against a number of exercises saying they did more harm than good even when form was fine. I know physios can be like that bit she was really good at wanting me to continue exercising. Can you work out in front of a mirror to check form? That really helped me. If not, maybe stick your phone on camera on yourself to keep an eye?

Yumy I know what you mean about the work thing, I’m having similar thoughts (although I am a teacher!). The things I’d love to retrain in wouod take so long to do and cost so much it would take years to make it worthwhile financially. All I’ll say is consider your mental health with what you would get the most from in your decision. FWIW I wouldn’t say don’t go into teaching, but I’d you do, go in with your eyes open that it is really hard, stressful, exhausting work, and I do think of it as more of a vocation than a career iykwim. The holidays are great from a childcare pov but if I work out an hourly rate for how much I get paid for how long I spend working it’s literally not much more than minimum wage. But it can be incredibly rewarding. I’m secondary but happy to answer any questions you might have. TA would be a great idea as you get to see how things work and if it’s for you.

Purple Grin at the burns! I haven’t heard of the work but it doesn’t sound easy just from the name!

Well, somehow I’ve bucked the trend and lost a couple of pounds in the past couple of ,months! I’m eating a lot more thanPre preg (although still bfing 4xday) and very sedentary so I’m guessing it must be down to having longer runs as I was doing 20-30 mins maybe 4K and now I’m trying to do 6-8k. Atm I’m doing one run a week for 45 mins or so, one cycle for about the same and one bb or LMOD work out. Yesterday I was struggling so much mentally with everything I did body balance 85 (the outdoors one) and it was just what I needed. I LOVE the balance track so much. I kmow this sounds totally cliqued but I was in such a bad mental place and then doing that and I was just totally in the emotion of the songs and moves and Diana was doing a move where you kind of balance to the point of almost falling over and she said something like ‘what if you fall, it what if you fly?’ And it just made me weep and I was in tears because it felt so relevant to me and returning to work in a week from mat leave and I did the track with tears down my face! Which I kmow sounds ridiculous and probably highlights my mental state atm, but I was so grateful for doing the workout.

Reastie · 24/05/2020 14:56

Gosh look at me, you don’t hear from me for a couple of weeks then you get a blooming essay!

yumyumpoppycat · 24/05/2020 16:49

Reastie sometimes the cliched workout bits do come from somewhere real - I can see why that would hit you at the moment. Really lovely that it was cathartic for you. Once or twice I have been really inspired by the little talks at end of a workout too. Well done on your weight loss

That workout sounds very hardcore purple - it must mean it is effective though?

It's Dh's birthday so I will def have gained weight this weekend. I made sangria and we have a Colin the caterpillar cake!

Purpleraindeer · 28/05/2020 09:08

Hope your DH enjoyed his lockdown birthday poppy.

Well done on the weight loss reastie. I think that is like a miracle. It’s the grazing and wine to break the monotony which is causing problems for me

So, I had an all time workout first yesterday. It was a bit hot in the house and I did my workout. It was lots of heavy weights so lots of puffing and panting from me (a bit like a hot puffed out hippo!) and then I noticed my sweat dripping down onto the exercise mat!! I was both revolted and impressed with my efforts. I also noticed that I could suddenly bicep curl 8kg. That has never happened before. Woo hoo!

Theromanempire · 28/05/2020 19:05

reastie well done on the weight loss - quite an achievement under the circumstances Smile I always loved body balance workouts when I did them at the gym - wish I could find the time to fit them into my workout schedule (which I realise is a stupid thing to say when we have all the time in the world at the moment but it doesn't feel like it most of the time Grin)

purple OMG, can't believe that sweating on the floor is a unique experience for you! I sweat copiously every workout - always have!! Sweat on the floor is the norm here Blush We have laminate flooring thankfully!

Started LIIFT again on Monday - god it felt good! Loved 10 rounds but LIIFT is clearly my spiritual workout. I think combining the 2 may be the way forward. Interestingly, it has been about 10 days since we finished 10 rounds and my knee is pretty much back to normal (despite some high impact stuff in LIIFT) so can only think it was that. Hopefully doing it on alternative weeks may prevent it happening again.

Also started Team RH calorie counting again on Monday - needed to do something so my work clothes do not fit Blush The comfy stretchy pants I have been wearing have not helped with the weight gain as they have clearly disguised it Blush So far so good but the weather is not helping as I am fighting the urge to drink cold glasses of wine and beer and tempting barbecues!

dueindecember10 · 29/05/2020 07:05

I am on week 3 of LIIFT4 and really enjoying it so far, Combining this with team RH. Already contemplating what to do next when I finish. What are people's experiences of 10 rounds please? Or maybe 80 day obsession?

yumyumpoppycat · 29/05/2020 15:41

Welcome duein10! @Theromanempire and @purpleraindeer have done those workout I think so hopefully will be along!

How is your progress with team RH?

I def need to get disciplined with food and exercise. I keep starting diets then breaking them after a few days. I can't understand how I used to be able to diet and exercise really well and since turning 40 it's all gone to pot!

Theromanempire · 29/05/2020 17:03

Hi dueindecember - welcome to the thread Smile I have done Liift numerous times and have also recently completed 10 Rounds (I am a Joel fan-girl Grin) so ask away if you have any questions. I loved them both for different reasons - the 10 rounds workouts are definitely more fun but less challenging (cardio-wise) than Liift so I did feel that my cardio fitness and strength gains suffered a bit with 10 rounds. I have started a hybrid of the 2 this week to try and get the benefits of both programmes so I am alternating programmes each week.

I am also a Team RH member aswell - I lost 2 stone quite easily with it a couple of years ago and then I have bobbled along, lost motivation a couple of times and my weight has gone up and down for months and lockdown has just exacerbated the problem and I daren't get on the scales now. I love their no-nonsense attitude, the diet makes sense to me and the weight did drop off fairly easily. However, I do struggle to meet my protein targets Sad.

Yum yes, 40 does seem to be a magic number that makes it impossible to lose weight Sad and you have to work twice as hard to shift the pounds. It sucks!!

OP posts:
dueindecember10 · 29/05/2020 19:53

I love that there are some team RH members who also do beachbody programs! I don't think I know anyone in real life who does either.

Reastie · 30/05/2020 07:46

Hello Dueindecember!

Don’t tell me this about being 40, I’m 40 next year and it’s hard enough already!!!

Purple another one here who would regularly drip sweat on the mat/floor. When I used to do heavy weights on body pump pre injury the squat track always made sweat drip off my arms! It doesn’t happen much any more because I don’t push myself as much as I used to because I’m so scared about injuries but I always have to wear a headband to exercise or I get sweat dripping in my eyes 😮😂.

Thermo I wonder if they’ll do a LIIFT2 workout like they did insanity and insanity max and that crazy hard insanity one.

Hoping for run this morning but running late with breakfast so not sure if I’ll manage to go without getting stitch.

Purpleraindeer · 01/06/2020 21:03

Hi all!
I have good news for you on the being 40 front. I am 40 (ahem - a few years beyond ) and am thinner, fitter and stronger than I was when I got married. So, don’t despair! Smile

Welcome dueindecember - I haven’t done 10 rounds. I did try a bit of 80 day obsession and found it a bit gimicky as you needed slides and bands which I didn’t want to buy. I’m also not sure I could handle autumns chat every day. Lift is excellent though.

I finished week 2 of the work today. Was feeling smug as the last few have been hard but manageable and this was only 40mins so how bad could that be. Omg. If I tell you that it was 8 rounds, each round was 50reps of something plus a walking plank for 45secs and the first round was 50 burpees with a press up, then you’ll get the idea. Shock It was so hard and a lot of modifying happened. In retrospect I enjoyed it though.

I love the idea of lift2. Maybe we can do a little petition to beach body to get them working on it!

Thank you for the welcome!

I've read a bit more about 80DO and the consensus seems to be the longer workouts are because of all the chat. Think this would wind me up when I'm in a hurry in the mornings.

I'm thinking the work may be more up my street but have a few weeks to decide. Core De Force may also be on the shortlist. I love that BBOD has so much choice. I am almost thinking about ditching the gym as I'm getting more used to working out at home.

Reastie · 02/06/2020 07:20

Dueindecember I ditched the gym for home workouts a couple of years ago. I still miss the atmosphere of group classes and swimming, but I love the mixture of home workouts and doing them whenever I want. I have quite a bit of equipment at home too (not big stuff like running machines but barbell, step, balls, pull up bar, weights, sliders, bands etc).

I hate workouts with too much chat. Tony Horton in p90x and autumn are great for this and it really annoys me as I just want to crack on and finish it sooner.

Omg purple that sounds impossible! Even at my fittest I’d struggle. I wonder how many people are actually fit enough to do that?!

dueindecember10 · 02/06/2020 21:16

I think with no sign of the kids going back to school anytime soon that working out at home is a much better use of my time, rather than wasting time driving to and from the gym (when they reopen obviously!). I might need to add some equipment if I choose a different program but I've got some adjustable weights which are fine for LIIFT4. I thought I would get bored following a program but the first 4 weeks have flown by! Here's to the gains on the next 4 weeks.

Hope everyone else is smashing their goals.

yumyumpoppycat · 05/06/2020 13:36

Oh my goodness I agree about the too much chat on workouts- a bit for personality is fine but not if it adds 10 minutes to a workout.

My workout yest was rubbish def not smashing goals ... maybe I should actually set some!

I love home workouts for saving time and not needing to worry about how I look. occasional gym class is fun though.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 05/06/2020 17:47

Hello,

May I join you?

I didn't know you are here !! So happy to have found you all.
I did day 49 of Morning Meltdown today!

I love Beachbody and have done all the classics - P90X, Insanity, Asylum, Asylum vol 2, turbo fire, T25, then there is a long gap because I just signed up when lockdown started.

Smile
dueindecember10 · 06/06/2020 07:47

yumyumpoppycat - Are you following a program of dipping in and out. I am finding following (and sticking) to a program is giving me structure.

myohmywhatawonderfulday - Would love to know what you think of Morning Meltdown if you get a sec.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 06/06/2020 08:43

Hi there,
So here are my thoughts:
-So I love Jericho and her hair is amazing.
-She talks a lot - the whole way through.
-I like the set - its bright and nice to look at in the morning (I realise that sounds a bit weird but its what I think).
-I like that its short - between 20 - 30 minutes a day and I am sure that is one of the reasons I have been able to be so consistent with it.
-I rarely sweat.
-I like how the phases are structured.

  • It is repetitive but I feel its just on the side of it being okay.
-I have started to add in extra workouts on days when I have more time to make myself feel like I have worked out. So this week I have done MM every day and on four days I have done an insanity workout as well. -I see the extra workouts as bonuses but I want to keep my commitment to the main programme. Now I have done it for 50 days I want to keep going. I am invested in the challenge!
Theromanempire · 06/06/2020 10:38

Myohmy welcome to the thread Smile Good to hear your thoughts about MM100 as I keep looking at it but wasn't sure whether it would suit me. I am not sure I could get DH on board with it - as much as he would enjoy looking at Jericho every day, I don't think he would like the music and chatter!

Dueindecember I cancelled my gym membership about 5 years ago due to lack of time due to the DC's out of school activities which pretty much kept us busy every evening and weekend mornings! Can't say that I have missed it that much. I do crave the Body Attack and Body Combat classes as I absolutely love those classes and doing it by myself in the lounge is just not the same Grin I do a Clubbercise class once a week which kind of gives me that feeling but whilst it is amazing fun, it is not the 'can't breath but feel amazing' buzz you get from Body Attack! However, I absolutely do not miss all the hassle of driving there and back etc - so much easier to work out in your own house! The DC are going to be at the age soon when we could leave them for a couple of hours in the evenings but I am not sure that we will rejoin the gym!

Loving the Liift and 10 Rounds hybrid so far (although admittedly we are only 1 and a half weeks in Grin).

Happy weekends everyone!
