New thread all Smile

plink I love the circuit workouts but they always fool me into thinking they are going to be easy but they hurt!! Shoulder intervals are definitely the easiest of them all and there for my favourites Grin

Purple dd and dh wolf down banana chips but I ration them because my goodness they aren’t as healthy as you’d think! Another one of those things you think you’re being angelic when they are far from it. Don’t worry, I defo won’t follow suit with getting pg again!!! Hopefully the kg will go as quick as they came.

Hope everyone is ok. Just dine body pump here. 2nd this week . Only 45 mins today but glad I did it. Picked the one where they’re outside by the mountains and I think they really are there. Their clothes and hair were blowing in the breeze... thought Diana looked almost ill she was so slim and muscly. Reminds me of Jericho when she lost too much weight and didn’t look good. Not sure if she still is super small.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2020 16:15

Oh my goodness purple just seeing the word wine makes want a drink 😱 I am trying a bit harder with my weight this week so have managed to lose 3 or 4lbs and get down to shockingly high pre lockdown weight, however I keep losing and gaining this weight. Hope the weight comes off easily - it's a pain not being able to blink or it goes up!

Short upper body pump today 108 I think - it was fun and weird lifting in time to music and there were some interesting new moves. I will check that one out that you mentioned Reastie. For me that would be a long workout! Diana isn't my favourite not sure why. I was reading Rach's page on the website and she basically works out all day as planning workouts, practising and delivering classes.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/04/2020 16:17

Oops left you hanging Reastie ... 🤚

yumyumpoppycat · 30/04/2020 21:59

Tried a grit workout today but the warm up was so hard I abandoned it once the workout started and tried the first shabam instead!

Hope all doing ok

Theromanempire · 01/05/2020 22:08

yumyum I hate workouts where the warm up is really intense. Really puts me off the workouts (Shaun T is a nightmare for this)! Now, at the risk of sounding like a real Joel fan girl Blush, the warm ups in 10 rounds is little more than a few arm reaches, some hip rolls, stretches and occasionally some squats - it is perfect Grin

Purpleraindeer · 02/05/2020 16:21

Poppy you’ve done amazingly well to lose 3 or 4lbs during lockdown. I’ve lost all self control. I’m not eating terribly - just much too much. I saw my wobbly thighs today Sad

From my recollection of the grit workout I did the warm up was basically as hard as the workout if that is any motivation? Well done on doing something else instead though - you must have been tempted just to stop and sit down?

Hi reastie and roman hope you’re ok.

Realised I left it a while between checking in. I’ve been exercising this week. Missed one day as work got in the way, but have done an intervals run, max strength and max cardio. Long run tomorrow. I seem to have fallen into doing max30 which I’m quite enjoying.

Reastie · 02/05/2020 16:37

Hi all,

Yumy I’ve only done a couple of grit workouts and that was a couple of years ago so hazy but I agree I think warmup was as hard as workout. I think with those you have to adjust your mentality like insanity is so hard at the warm up. But I also remember I found them oretty impossible abd struggled to do a lot of the moves with decent form so gave up on it! Well done on the weight loss, any loss at this point is fantastic.

Purple glad to hear from you. Sounds like you’re doing pretty well (ignoring the wobbly thighs which I bet aren’t as bad as you think)

Thermo I love how much of a Joel fan girl you are! I’m getting you follow him on Instagram Grin .

Run this morning and such a disappointment. Good news = ran for about 7k, that’s a pp pb. Bad news people were not keeping 2m away which totally spoilt it and really upset me as I stress about this enough as it is. People definitely bending rules and we haven’t even eased lockdowns yet. It’s going to be awful when we do, lots of people will just want to go back to normal.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/05/2020 18:35

I am relieved to hear that everyone agrees the grit workout is hard! What kind of warmup included burpees anyway! I prob shouldn't have given up. Roman Joel's warmups sound much better all round!

Well done on your pb Reastie - I agree about social distancing - most people don't seem to care.

Purple sounds like you have done a lovely mix of workouts this week.

Have done 2 30 min body pumps incl nature one - think lighting and Diana's cap and straightened hair might have been making her look extra thin Reastie?

Bit of progress for me as my squats and lunges are a little better!

Purpleraindeer · 03/05/2020 11:21

I’m sorry to hear about your run reastie. Well done on the pb though. You did give me pause for thought. I think I might be one of those people who isn’t always obeying the 2m rule. Blush it is entirely accidental but made all the worse because I’m very involved in cv19 in my job so know all about the dangers of it. I find when I’m running Im in ‘escape’ mode and am often in my own thoughts just trying to forget about things and feel normal so I maybe just forget about the 2m rule. I was very conscious of it today though and was super careful so you definitely changed me! Having said that I only saw about 3 people.

It was a nice run though. Legs were very tired to start with but I hit my stride after a bit and had a bit of a ‘flow’ run which just felt great.

yumyumpoppycat · 04/05/2020 17:00

I would love to be able to run like that being in the flow purple (think I have said that before!) for me the thought of being able to run for miles is like being a really good singer or dancer etc. Did you do any competitive running at school or anything when you were younger?

Turning into a gorgeous evening. I was very sensible over the weekend and haven't had a drink or crisps or anything but today I had bread at lunch and it is making the cravings go into overdrive - especially as I need to make space in kitchen for a new combo microwave (our proper oven is broken) and the gin bottle is almost empty so it would be very helpful if me to finish it off Wink

Body attack nature done today - I keep wondering if they were creating noise pollution with the music Blush it wasn't too bad so I will do the 45 min one next time. I did body balance yesterday but I am rubbish at up dog down dog and repeat - it's not my favourite workout really. Although I liked the lying down at the end!

Purpleraindeer · 05/05/2020 10:13

Hi poppy
I never did any sport at school and was always picked last. Blush I did a bit more at uni and started running in my 20s. I’ve never been particularly fast. It is the opposite of being able to sing or dance - both of those require talent - running just needs persistence and one day you find it feels easier and becomes enjoyable. It’s just like all workouts really but with the added benefit of getting you outside which is a mood lifter

Were any of you sporty at school? I can’t help thinking school failed me on that front. It made me think I couldn’t do anything and I was always the one who’d try to fake their period to get off games!

Did a workout before starting work this am. Was a great idea - it has really lifted my mood. Smile

Reastie · 05/05/2020 10:30

Yumy I mainly do bodybalance for the lying down at the end 😂. Although I do usually really enjoy the balance tracks. I found Diana on Instagram and IMO she does look a bit anorexic type thin in the face atm

Purple I’m another who always hated PE at school. It was always team games which I still don’t really enjoy now (I prefer doing a class or a run. Something I can compete with myself rather than feeling I have to be good enough to not let people down) and I never ‘got’ the competitive thing as I didn’t really care. Team games or gymnastics type activities where we had to wear these god awful green knickers instead of shorts for our kit.

Hope everyone’s doing ok. Not long now @PlinkPlink ! I’m terrified of going back to work after maternity leave in less than a month and so waiting to see what sundays announcement has in store for schools. I also have no childcare as my parents can’t now have Ds because of being vulnerable. I’m not really sleeping worrying about everything and life is so full on with a baby and home schooling it’s pretty tough.

PlinkPlink · 05/05/2020 11:35

Hello everyone!!

I was sporty but not as much as the "popular" girls. I went to a sports college type of school so games and PE were quite a big thing. I sucked at Primary school, had no coordination whatsoever which meant I was picked last for everything too. But secondary I started to really enjoy it. Hated tennis (total lack of control there) and swimming (still not keen but I do it).
The popular girls were all in the hockey teams and rounders teams that played other schools. I wasn't that far involved. Just made an effort in lessons and on sports day competitions.

Glad to see you're all doing reasonably well given the circumstances. I haven't posted much because well... no workouts to report. But I am aching to get back into it. For now, I'm happy with running around after a little toddler and trying to do housework.

34 weeks next week. Its scary how fast time is going. I don't feel prepared at all 🙈🙈🙈 it doesn't help that DS is going through some sort of disturbed sleep pattern so my usually free evenings are mostly spent in his bed, snuggling him to sleep. Lovely but at the same time need to get shit done 🙈

Don't be so hard on yourself Reastie. Especially with the home schooling stuff. It's not going to be perfect. No one would ever expect you to teach to the standard of an actual school teacher. There's only so much you can do. Its a very scary time. So uncertain. So unpredictable. Just try and take each day as it comes.

I must admit there is a small part of me that is terrified about labour and life with a baby during this time. I'm trying to remember I can't control it so worrying about it won't do anything. Trying to shift my focus to things I can control. I'm more worried about the lack of 'village' around me. All the women in my life who will play an important pivotal role in the DCs lives... socially distanced at best, locked down at worst 🙈 it's a sad prospect tbh. But we shall see how it goes. I'm willing to sacrifice it to make sure we all stay safe.

Theromanempire · 06/05/2020 21:55

Evening

I am another one who hated PE at school - just wasn't at all sporty and didn't care about it at all. I also have awful memories of cross country which I hated with an absolute passion and am convinced has put me off running in adulthood Sad Still not really into participating in sport (love watching most sports though so the total cessation of live sport has hit our family quite hard as we would pretty much have some form of sport on the telly!)

Reastie agree, go easy on yourself and do what you can. We are all muddling through and my DC definitely have more breaks than they do work periods Blush They seem more productive in the morning so I have accepted that and pretty much stop asking them to do anything in the afternoons. DC1 is at high school so it is a bit more full on but they can still get through the work doing mornings only. DC2 is year 6 so their work is a token gesture anyway so they are definitely done by lunchtime. All the while, me and DH are trying to do a full day of work with lots of video calls so I am so glad my 2 are older and pretty much self-sufficient and if they are told not to disturb, they understand. But, I am just so thankful that me and DH have jobs and they are secure which I appreciate is not the same for everyone.

To whoever said that they bet I follow Joel on Instagram - well yes I do Grin However, he does post a lot about his wife which is lovely but it does make me uncomfortable sometimes in how he does it - always calls her wifey' which really grates me anyway and puts #hotwife in all his posts which just objectifies her and is a tad sexist (and I am in no way a strong feminist!)

OP posts:
yumyumpoppycat · 07/05/2020 20:49

Purple I think it's even more impressive if you are a good runner through persistence Star

I am very surprised by the pe thing. I was def one of the picked last gang too (although I wasn't too bothered as I wouldn't have picked me either!) My favourite pe lesson was rounders as we could stand around chatting (and doing vogue moves Blush) when assigned the long fielding.

Roman I sympathise about the no sport on tv thing - my dad is really upset about it (but equally about no strictly 😂), my dh's football team he supports got kicked out of the league last year and he was devastated not to have the football on every sat.

Reastie I remember finding it hard going back to work after dc and that was without the added nightmare of corona.

Plink it is looking as though we will be out of lockdown to some extent when you give birth so hopefully you will be able to have people round to help

Body pump today ouch - my dc kept saying they make it look so easy (the presenters) I take that to mean I don't make it look easy!!

Reastie · 07/05/2020 21:18

Yumy I loved being a deep fielder in rounders so I could stand and have a natter and do pretty much nothing. I never thought rounders was a great game for the purpose of pe because so much time is sis t standing around doing very little exercise eg waiting to bat.

Thermo it was me about Joel on insta! I looked him up. He comes across as a bit of a poser tbh.

Plink that’s definitely a good way to think of it, it’s like the serenity prayer I mentioned.

Quick cheeky 30 minute cycle on tues. itching for a proper workout but will have to wait until Saturday. Heard back from work. My hours will be until sept 4.5 hours a week spread over 3 days, 2 of which days it’s in the middle of the day. Dh was hoping to have time off to childcare since we now have none but he can’t do that with these hours. Any paid for childcare will be far beyond my income for those hours. I’m not sure what to do. I’m awaiting Sunday and will see when abd if schools due back and come up with a plan but atm that can’t really work unless I work from home somehow (can you imagine teaching online a live lesson with a screaming baby constantly in the background because they need attention?!)

Purpleraindeer · 08/05/2020 08:58

Hi all - I do like that we all enjoyed rounders because it was mostly chatting. I played cricket when I was at uni and liked that because half way through you go and have tea (cakes, sandwiches and sometimes a shandy!). Best sport ever!

Reastie - those hours are tricky to work around - is your employer open to a discussion about better hours to make the childcare work? It’s so difficult at the moment. I’m a planner and it’s impossible to plan as we don’t really know what is going to happen. I suppose this living in the ‘now’ is probably good for me though.

I can’t believe Joel is married. He struck me as a player. I don’t like the hot wife comments. It makes him seem a bit pathetic

Plink - someone told me that having a toddler and a newborn is easier than being pregnant with a toddler. I didn’t believe them but it did turn out to be true. You’re at your max tired in the last weeks of pregnancy and toddlers are physically hard work. Btw lots of places are planning to reopen home births over the next 6 wks so you might get the home birth you want.

Intervals run for me on weds which was a lot easier than the first time I did it so it must be working. Foot hurt last night so didn’t want to do max30 as there’s a lot of jumping so did full body HIIT with Joel. Rest day today. And bank hol weekend and I’m not working which feels great Grin. I celebrated that fact last night and am starting my weekend with a hangover Grin

Purpleraindeer · 10/05/2020 18:16

Hope everyone had a good bank hol weekend. Ours was pretty quiet (obviously!)
Went for a run today and passed some people walking with their dog. The dog got excited and jumped at me and it was such a big dog it was jumping up to my shoulder. The couple just watched, and did nothing to stop the dog. I then shouted at them to control their dog and the man shouted at me and said I should just walk behind them if I didn’t want the dog to jump at me! ShockAngry it made me furious. He then told me that the dog always jumps at cyclists and runners. He honestly thought I was the one causing the problem. I really dislike inconsiderate dog owners.

Was a good run other than that though!

Reastie · 11/05/2020 09:17

Purple I’m Annoyed on your behalf. I’ve had so many dogs chase me or try and jump on me when I’ve been on runs and it really upsets and scares me. To the point where I’ve changed running routes in the past on purpose to minimise the chance of having a dog off the lead come near me. It’s so frustrating. Why can’t dog owners realise that we don’t really like being chased and we don’t like having random dogs running up to us and jumping on us!

Did insanity yesterday! First insanity since pre-preg I think. I decided to do pure cardio, which is my favourite one. Found I had to modify a lot, which I wasn’t really surprised by! I enjoyed it but I do ache a lot today! My stomach Muscles are hurting so much. And I didn’t even do any actual stomach exercises. I assume that the moves work your core without you realising.Nice to have a Shaun T work out after such a long time. Run on Saturday which was nearly 8k. Took me about 50 mins which is rubbish slow but includes warm up walk at beginning and end.

yumyumpoppycat · 11/05/2020 17:37

Purple that is really rubbish about those dog owners - I agree with Reastie totally off of them not to stop their dog jumping at you.

Reastie well done on insanity and your 8k. I will be back to bb after les mills. I do like lmod though and

I did body pump today - was quite fun!

Purpleraindeer · 12/05/2020 06:37

Pure cardio is my nemesis reastie - well done! It is such an exhilarating workout to do! Good on the run too - who cares about how fast you go - the most important thing is to get out.

Glad you’re enjoying les mills poppy. I tried but didn’t enjoy them. No idea why really

I started 6 weeks of work last night. It has a new trainer so felt quite different. It is a bit macho and shouty but it was a great strength workout. I had to go down to my smallest weights as my arms are now so weak! I will do a week of it and see how I get on

yumyumpoppycat · 14/05/2020 14:26

What is 6 weeks of work like purple?

Having a slightly extended rest days here!. Will need to get back to exercising tomorrow and rescue the week!

I am thinking about work a lot as things are a bit in the air, so I am considering my options around retraining and going round in circles with stuff.

Hope everyone is ok

Purpleraindeer · 14/05/2020 20:42

Hi poppy!

Are you being asked to go back into your workplace now or is this not covid related? I hope you get to the answer you want - it sounds a bit unsettling. I’m feeling a bit the same. I think current circumstances are leading us to think about what we’re doing with our lives more

I’m enjoying 6wks of work. You need resistance bands and slides which I don’t have so I’ve modified a bit. My legs are ruined after leg day and that was without the bands so goodness knows what they would have been like with them! I think it is aimed at men who do lots of weights as the cardio/HIIT bits I think are not particularly challenging but the weights bits are hard (and I’m a bit weak after a lot of HIIT and no weights for ages). On the workout today which has a lot of jumping the really muscly guy in the cast kept stopping and was obviously really struggling and then the trainer told him he was a quitter and he looked furious. After max30 it felt ok to me so I couldn’t work out what his problem was Smile

My only issue with it is that the workouts are all 40-45mins
I’m going to finish the week and then decide whether I buy some resistance bands. I don’t want more crap in my house but I think they might become more necessary.

Hope everyone else is ok

Theromanempire · 15/05/2020 17:29

I have looked at the Work and it is definitely not for me! I prefer a much gentler style of instructor Wink Beachbody do seem to have moved to more lifting-style workouts rather than the full on cardio types (like Insanity etc) of years gone by.

Yum are you wobbling about work because you don't want to go back? Are you currently furloughed or WFH? I have been WFH since lockdown started but went into the office yesterday (voluntarily) just because I realised that the longer I left it, the harder it would be to do so. I actually really enjoyed the change of scenery and the break from the kids so think I am going to do it once a week (even though technically it is against government guidance Blush)

I also have a year 6 DC so now wrestling with the decision about whether they should return to school - such a hard decision as I am not overly concerned about the risk to them but it does seem it is going to be little more than childcare so not sure there is any point!

Back to BBOD chat, we are doing the final week of 10 Rounds at the moment. Can honestly say I have enjoyed every single workout - the cardio and weights differ each week so you never get fed up, the format of 3 minute rounds really suits me and it has just been so much fun. I think it would have been quite good for my weight and physique aswell if I had not been eating everything in sight whilst doing the programme and the fact we have cancelled our holiday so no need to worry about wearing a swimming costume Blush

Plan for next week is alternating between LIIFT and 10 Rounds each week so we get a good combination of both. Will take 14 weeks so is going to take us all the way through summer. If I can sort my diet out aswell, I would hope for some reasonable results through this. We will see Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 15/05/2020 18:04

Thanks both, it looks like my current job is coming to an end soon but I am technically self employed so no redundancy etc . I do admin and it was always part of the plan that I would retrain and get more of a focused career/vocational job when the dc were older (they are in y4, 8, and 10). I did an English masters originally which isn't hugely useful! I am kind of thinking about training for teaching primary but everyone seems to say don't do it! There is another idea but that would mean 3 years at uni and no income - we could cope but potentially that means a cost of 75k if you add in likely lost income. My earning potential once retrained would go up a bit but would take several years to make up the difference. If I ended up being good at whatever job I end up in it would be worth it though.

Roman I was reading on here that psychological transition to high school stuff is the reason for year 6 going back but I genuinely don't think my eldest 2 would have blinked an eye about skipping the end of year 6 if it meant longer off school!

Purple your muscly man story made me laugh. I sometimes end up doing the muscly man stuff in yoga type workouts because I am so inflexible and often the super muscly men are similarly rubbish
