This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

Are you able to take nurofen Carrot?

AuntieStella · 04/07/2019 07:20

OYBBK. unless you know that you've injured one side, getting soreness on one side only can be a sign that you've got a problem somewhere else - could be anywhere in your spine or shoulders. It's the underlying cause of my Achilles tendonitis (previous hip injury 2years ago, and shoulders that carry tension unevenly).

So if it keeps happening to you, look to see if you're level, either or both posture/gait or underlying issue elsewhere.

I'm still on the mend. Intervals last might and only the mildest of sensation in the tendons this morning. But I probably shouldn't do a half marathon this weekend, should I?

That's really interesting AuntieStella I have just started physio for a neck/shoulder issue. I'll ask if it could be related.

I can't advise on the wisdom of doing a Half at the weekend, do you feel you've done enough training for it?

AuntieStella · 04/07/2019 08:06

Not in the slightest, OYBBK I was half marathon for most of the first half of the year (did 3" plus numerous 10k events). And I dare say I could get round. But I've not run much in the last 3 weeks or so and I find it tougher in the summer in general. I could do it, but it wouldn't be pretty. So perhaps I shouldn't do it

(hate to scratch though, have already had to pull out of 2x 10k)

TriSkiRun99 · 04/07/2019 08:48

Slow 5k this morning pre-work, woke up later than planned felt tired didn’t want to go by DH said he’d take youngest to breakfast club so felt I had to run as it was such lovely blue sky cooler morning. Watched the sea swimmers feeling tad jealous but didn’t have time or energy for a dip this morning. Hope you all have a good Thursday.

Auntie I've got a 10k race on Sunday and a HM the following Sunday and my knees are killing me. Wish I'd never got involved TBH Grin. I'm going to hack round the HM as it'll be my one and only, then rest a couple of weeks before Tough Mudder.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2019 11:19

Can you plan something nice at the same time as the HM Auntie so you don't feel as though you are missing out?

emummy · 04/07/2019 11:21

Easy run in the rain this morning.
AuntieStella do it if you can maybe take it easy & enjoy the run. If it's going to be hideous don't do it!

Just a 2 mile run tonight. 75.8

Chesneyhawkes1 · 05/07/2019 00:17

On nights this week so could run when it's cooler before work.

Bite gone down loads and had a nice back massage this afternoon.

Did 9.1 miles on a hilly route as I've been bad an avoiding big hills

84.9

emummy · 05/07/2019 10:54

Glad that bite is better Chesney.
Carrot I hope your hip settles down.
Hill session this morning, not sunny but warm and humid so it was hard work but strangely enjoyable!

That's good news Chesney! Phew!

10km run this morning - nice and quick, but it was really hard! And hot. I definitely need to sort out a sports massage before my next race. So many random ouchies. But then I looked back over my mileage and I've really ramped up without noticing in the past month. So I'm probably increasing too quickly.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 05/07/2019 14:50

Poking head in to say hello and see you next month: just had my 3rd CS in May and outright banned from running until Aug and “strongly advised” to phase my return to normality via C25K.

So just reading everyone’s running posts to live vicariously through them 😁

Volunteering at Parkrun tomorrow for the first time, I miss it so much so have put my runban yo good use!

Alex3101 · 05/07/2019 15:19

Well blimey it's warm outside. DW is working a long day so had to squeeze in a run when I could. Well that happened to be at just before 2, so a very hot, hilly and dusty 7 miles for me.
I'm now slowly turning into a puddle in the living room trying to get fluids in quicker than they are exiting.

Alex3101 · 06/07/2019 10:21

4.2 miles this morning, another easy one as it's under a week until my next race.
It was still warm out this morning and it was a bit of a struggle after running in the heat yesterday.

I hope the parkrun went well Paul not too long now before you can run again.

TriSkiRun99 · 06/07/2019 14:42

Gosh even at 7am I was melting this morning and struggled to keep going on my 10.5k run even the seafront was hot so headed back through local park under the trees which was cooler.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2019 17:40

I did it!

It was very hot, and the first hour or so also very sunny - I sweated all the sunscreen off my face so now look rather pink/weather beaten.

But despite a pretty appalling time (which I put down to being under-prepared and it just being too damned hot) I felt stronger in body that in have done in the last couple I've run, and the ankle did not play up. So all in all, it's been a good day

120.1

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2019 18:58

That's brilliant! Well done!!!

TriSkiRun99 · 06/07/2019 20:28

Well done stella that’s no mean feat in these hot conditions it’s been sweltering here today.

HopeCrescent · 06/07/2019 21:24

Hello! I’m an old timer on Mumsnet in an old name... but this is a new name and my first time on a running thread... love to join this thread if that is ok?
I’ve started running in the last few months and did my first 10K a couple of weeks ago. I have signed up to do a half marathon towards end September.

LenoVentura · 06/07/2019 22:05

Oh well done AuntieStella. I've got a 10k race tomorrow and HM next week, both of which I'm regretting but I've got sponsorship for my charity so no going back now. I'm sick with nerves - haven't raced for 4 years and training has made me slower not quicker cos I've overdone it. Knees are killing me so no doubt I'll be in a very bad mood by the time it's over 🥴.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2019 22:41

Good luck Leno, remember all you need to do is just get to the end. That's all that matters and more than anyone who doesn't start the race has done.

Welcome Hope!

HopeCrescent · 07/07/2019 08:31

Good luck in the 10K!

Can I ask how you guys map your runs? In last week I have used Strava and I have a Motiv ring (like a FitBit but worn as a ring). They give quite different results - Strava saying I have run much further and therefore faster.
In order to train for the half marathon I downloaded an app called ‘21K Runner’ and it also gave me a different distance travelled. We’re talking quite big differences...
Motiv 6.9k
Strava 8.95k
10K runner app 7.3k

Any idea which is most accurate?!
