This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

204.3

Thanks kitten, I need to look at my nutrition too, wobbly legs in the last km means not enough fuel, particularly protein, in the tank but it's a vicious circle because running robs my appetite.

TriSkiRun99 · 01/07/2019 07:49

badkitten do you need to carry your phone? I carry my DH phone number &my drivers license for ID but don’t generally take my phone and it’s quite freeing Smile. For hydration I carry a kids fruit shoot type bottle filled with water, it’s only 300ml and the shaped top means I can hold it easier. On my long runs I re-fill it in at local garden centre toilet or the public loo tap. Hubbie sometimes stashes a bottle half way in bush or buys one. He tried a camelbac hydration pack for marathon training which was ok but carrying anything after having nothing feels different and needs getting used too.

TriSkiRun99 · 01/07/2019 07:50

Nice picture emummy looks lovely place to run. I’m debating doing a beach run after school drop as low tide is 10am and it seems a lot cooler this morning.

emummy · 01/07/2019 08:44

I have an Innov8 running belt that holds tons of stuff, and usually take soft flasks for drinks. Mine are from Ronhill, they collapse down as you empty them. In normal weather I only take drinks & fuel for runs of 10 miles or more, but in the heat I take drinks for anything over an hour. I always carry my phone, I listen to podcasts on it when I'm running, but also I just prefer having it with me.

I carry one of those water bottles with a hole in the middle with me. It's annoying, but you get used to it. Ideally I probably need a bigger belt (I've got a flip belt atm), but I can't justify shelling out for more kit just yet.

Was going to do a 5m run but my hip is playing up so didn't do it ☹️ I did do half an hour of yoga instead though, hopefully that will help!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/07/2019 10:44

I hate carrying a stupid bottle in my hand. I've tried and just can't. I definitely need my phone with me for my music and also because I go off road and want it in case I sprain an ankle or something and can't get home.

I need a solution before my next race in three weeks in case it's really hot. I hate water stations, they seem to give water in random vessels. One race it was a cuboid pouch of water and I had no idea how to get into it.

I'll check out the innov8 belt. Thanks!

I'm rubbish at eating too Leno Jelly babies work for me but I start early on before I'm too knackered, so about 45 mins into a long run.

TriSkiRun99 · 01/07/2019 11:55

Lovely 10k run with 8k on sand, I think my calves and foot arches will be aching tomorrow! Ignored pace completely got wet and sandy trainers plus wind blasted face on back leg but I felt very blessed to be able run on a lovely day making the most of my only day off Smile have we got a July total going yet?

Lunchtime run in the sun for me. Got bitten by something and my arm has swollen up!

TriSki hats off to you! Sand running must be exhausting.
Ouch Chesney!

AuntieStella · 02/07/2019 07:56

I hope that bite settles!

My tendonitis continues on the mend, with a nice steady run yesterday evening. So lovely that nothing hurts afterwards! Also a full on strength session, which went OK but I can feel that I've had a work out. Still high pollen round here though, high does make everything harder.

LenoVentura · 02/07/2019 08:18

That's nasty Chesney. Have you taken any antihistamines?

TriSkiRun99 · 02/07/2019 09:22

It was low tide pretty solid sand but it does work my legs in a different way kitten and they were stiff this morn.
Today’s early 5k was tarmac run just to get it logged before work, not as pretty view but I did cut through the park so saw some trees and greenery.

I hope your arm is better Chesney, that looked alarming!
Glad your tendonitis is improving AuntiStella
Mixed pace run for me this morning in sunshine and showers. My foot is causing trouble so I have a physio appointment for next week - hoping she will cure it while telling me to keep running! Not sure how likely that is....

I've taken antihistamines and used cream. It's not got any bigger but is still boiling hot to touch and my elbow is all stiff.

I'll give it a day or so to go down and then maybe see someone if it hasn't.

So annoying. I didn't even feel the bite so don't know what did it. Maybe a horsefly.

TriSkiRun99 · 02/07/2019 12:21

Is it worth drawing a pen line around it to track if infection grows chesney ? As someone else I know got a spider bite which meant they ended up on antibiotics to stop it going nasty. Good luck.

emummy · 02/07/2019 12:38

If it is hot and not improving I would get it looked at. Infection is definitely a risk and marking it with a pen can help you monitor it. Also look out for a red line tracking up your arm from the site, if this occurs you must get it seen immediately as it means there is infection. In the meantime you could also try some ibuprofen (neurofen) to see if that helps.
Ds got stung by a wasp a few years back, ended up with a big swelling on his leg and had 2 courses of antibiotics before it burst and the sting came out.

How do you feel in yourself Chesney? I once got cellulitis from an insect bite. I ended up quite poorly.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/07/2019 17:57

I feel ok. I was up for work at 2.30am so any rubbish feeling will be that.

Went for a little 5 mile off road run and my heart rate is fine. Which must mean I'm ok I think. Thought exercise would help with the swelling.

I'm going to get DH to draw round it when he gets home. I'm left handed and see how it is tomorrow. I've taken some ibuprofen now too 👍🏻

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/07/2019 20:28

I think it might be better to keep your runs really gentle while you work out what's going on with the bite.

8 miles today, with a mix of some tough hills, a sprint and some very gentle stuff. I seem to have a lot of tight muscles in my left leg. I might have overdone it a bit.

It was fun though. I wish my muscles could keep up rest of me.

A nice easy zone 2 10 km run for me this evening, it was pretty warm but much less humid. It felt very easy which is nice as I'm tapering now for my next race.

BusterTheBulldog · 03/07/2019 14:08

Hi everyone, dropped off this thread in June, though still running.

7.5 miles club run last night and 5 miles of intervals at lunch.

There’s 20% off sale items on the Nike website if anyone is on the look out for anything - lethal.

Do you have sports massages ohyoubadkitten? I find they help the sore muscles a lot

Hope physio goes ok emummy I keep having random ankle swellings and physio has said ok to keep running so fingers crossed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/07/2019 15:38

I don't Buster, I think I should try some. Thanks for the idea :)

CarrotPuff · 03/07/2019 22:22

Went for a slow 3m run but my hip still hurts ☹️ I think I over strained it last week during my fast runs. Going to leave running until Tuesday now I think 😭
