This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

Early morning run for me today, fairly uneventful but the sunrise was lovely here

Welcome @Onesunnydayiniceland

Club run Monday with sprints and group interval run last night.

Thanks for the festive suggestions. I’ve found a skin on eBay to put under my vest.

Hi runners, I hope you don't mind me crashing the party - I need help with honking trainers.

This year DH and I have both got running, and been out in all weathers and all terrains, and now our shoe cabinet and hallway stinks of damp sweaty trainers.

Please can you tell me how we can:
a) stop the general foot-stink
b) dry them after a wet run so they don't smell like wet dog (+ feet) and are dry enough to wear the next morning
c) de-mud them efficiently

We both have one pair each at the moment doing road and trails.

Huge thanks

(Can add my miles this week but I'll have to go and convert from km...)

Hi iheartspiders! Not sure my trainers are smell free but to dry them I would take out the insoles & stuff with newspaper, you will need to change it a few times depending on how wet they are. I try to leave my trainers outside for a bit after runs if it’s dry to get some air.
Lovely run in the forest this morning, gorgeous autumn colours.

Looks lovely emummy - I bottled it this morning was achy & weather was absolutely pants heavy rain and windy. So did some yoga and had a swim over lunchtime.
My wet trainers just go on the radiator in the hall or like above we leave them outside if it’s dry and occasionally the soles go in the washing machine. A paste of bicarbonate soda with a little water, left overnight can remove stubborn smells.

Thanks @emummy, I did put my old spare pair outside to dry over half term but where we live is very wet and has been even more so recently. We also don't get newspapers, so would have to buy one specially. They're cheap though I suppose!

Beautiful forest there!

Ah! @TriSkiRun99 I hadn't thought about putting only the insoles in the machine. Genius!

We need a bigger house with a 'mud room' or whatever with drying space.

I only had a little run yesterday morning, but ended up feeling really ill from dehydration in the evening, so gave myself the morning off.

That looks lovely emummy. I love autumn colours.

A fast 5k in the dark for me last night. I'm quite enjoying the colder weather and did my fastest 5k for a while. Although I managed to give some poor woman a terrible fright as I rushed past her!

Adding 6 miles of trails from Sunday.

Hi. Sorry I fell off the thread for a few weeks. Had so much going on that running risked becoming another chore to fit in rather than a joy. So I stepped back a bit. Still went out on a couple of short ones but actually the break did help me to keep the love. Anyway hopefully back to it now. Will catch up on the thread later when got time to read properly. Just adding the rest of mine to October total

Very wet and foggy run at 5am today, I hadn't planned to run but had to miss the club run last night so decided to make the effort this morning before work. Happy Friday everyone 😀

Just popping in to add on my last October miles. I ran a lot during half term, including some very pretty trails.

October: 470.7

Nothing yet in November, so that stays 5.4

Hi everyone, so I’ve started back after stopping in August due to an ankle injury. I’ve lost a considerable amount of fitness and only managed a short 2.2 miles this morning. How long does it take to regain fitness after a few months break?

I’d like to get back to running 5k at a decent pace again and once I’m comfortable with that, I want to increase my distances gradually.

Managed to get a dry 5m run in this morning between the endless wet windy weather that has been battering the SW, it’s coming back again so not sure if I’ll make ParkRun as the windy looks high on the forecast with heavy rain again.

@emummy lovely photo.

@SparkleTwilight well done for starting again. Take it slow and you’ll soon be back.

Drizzly 9 yesterday straight after work. Getting dark so early these days.

Marshalling tomorrow and looks like I’ll need full waterproofs and warm clothes!

I did a very wet and windy parkrun yesterday, and had a nice low finish number. Not excellent running by me though, just a low turnout because of the rugby and the weather!

And a long run this morning - lovely autumn conditions today!

Our ParkRun was cancelled due to poor weather, so got a nice lie in. Struggling abit with another cold niggling (thanks DD...again), but was determined to get a long run in this morning after school run. Got soaked in 2 downpours in first 10mins started to question my wisdom but ended up really enjoying the run as the wind had dropped & it wasn’t too cold. 8.7m logged in the end.

Afternoon all!!

Newbie here... I did the great south run (10 miles) last month with not enough training & I bloody loved it! I'm an on/off runner but enjoying it more than ever at the minute so thinking I might sign up for a half while the going is good... Any half recommendations? It would need to be south central England ideally.

I haven't run yet in Nov due to illness but I'll be lacing up this week!

Welcome @basicbitch16

Hills session tonight which felt like a hard slog as I was feeling really hungry as had forgotten to eat my usual pre run snack until it was too late.

Welcome basic! No recommendations for you I’m afraid, I am at the opposite end of the country! Sites like fetcheveryone.com (or .co.uk, not sure!) do race listings & reviews

Steady 5.5 miles for me at 5am in the pouring rain, it was a bit of a struggle as I've had a nasty cough and tight chest but hoping I'm over the worst

Nice steady run in the sunshine, thank God the rain has stopped! Sorry you still got wet Waiting, hope your cough goes soon.
Have signed up for my first race of 2020, a ladies only 10 mile in March. I start work in January after 6 years at home so fitting in running with work & study for an MSc is going to be an interesting challenge!

Welcome to all the new people.
A very wet and windy run on Saturday and last night did an evening one which I really enjoyed once out. I’d forgotten how long it takes to get out the house at this time of year!! Got my gear on, then my running belt and running lights etc, then the dog lead and light up collar. I think I spent more time getting ready than actually out running Grin

@basicbitch16 Southampton half in April? There's a good website Find A Race that can help you find races.

Hi all. Been running about a year. Did a half last month and have a 10 mile race weekend after this one. Really struggling to fit the training in. Away this weekend on Derby. Will take my runners.
