Carrot the gels aren't food as such, they are like a thick liquid gel. They are surprisingly okay actually, as in - not sickly sweet, don't leave a weird aftertaste or feeling in your mouth, and you can sort of hold it in your hand and squeeze it in like a drink rather than something you have to chew. I was a bit concerned about choking on a jelly baby during my race, I didn't have one for that reason! I never use them for training but they did seem to help my HM time and (maybe psychological?) seemed to keep me going.

Welcome miff I’m a red face person even when I’m at my fittest. I’ve decided to embrace it as it shows I’m working hard (well that’s what I tell myself).
Good luck carrot If I’m doing a longer run I like porridge an hour or two before. I can’t tolerate the gels but do have dextrose tablets or jelly babies.

emummy · 09/06/2019 09:50

Lovely 8 miles this morning incorporating next week's 10k race route, planning where to push and where to focus on surviving! Also had a practice at running fast down the steep steps at the end. Should be interesting..,

I did it! It says 2:31 but do I distract starting time?

My legs hurt but now the adrenaline worn off I've got awful period cramps too ☹️

CarrotPuff · 09/06/2019 13:21

I did quick 2 miles last night which brings the total to

75.5

TriSkiRun99 · 09/06/2019 13:26

Well done carrot great job, hope a gd bath and rest helps the cramps.

emummy · 09/06/2019 13:43

Well done Carrot! Great result.

So I worked out the net time was 2:26:35. I wanted to do it in under 2:30 so very pleased with that. 846ft elevation 😳 would probably have been able to run the whole way if not for the crazy hills!

(Sorry for the me me me posts, but I've finally had a shower and I'm all buzzing with excitement!)

miffmufferedmoof · 09/06/2019 17:40

Well done Carrot! I can’t imagine running that far. And on a hilly course too and on your period!

I did 4.5k just now (meant to be 5 but got the route slightly wrong). Did it in 28 minutes though which I’m pretty happy with. I’m aiming for a sub 30 park run in 2 weeks time (will be my first park run) so need to push a bit harder but hopefully I’ll get there

CarrotPuff · 09/06/2019 18:20

By the way I did try one of the gels as they were handing them out. Ugh, disgusting! Maybe if they did a savoury one it would be ok...

IRun4Me · 10/06/2019 20:48

Well done carrot
A very wet 3 miles this evening

Nice steady run this morning, finishing in the rain with some strides.
I don't like gels either, it's the texture I can't take. I use clif shot bloks and recently have started using Active Root, which is a ginger based powder you dissolve in water. It has carbs and electrolytes and is supposed to be kinder on the stomach because of the ginger. I've tried it a few times and really liked it, so it will be coming on my marathon training with me.

Well done Carrot that's awesome!
Bit behind with updating. I did just 3 miles last week (mad busy week) but I did 5.5 miles at the weekend and a 5 mile super hilly trail run today that was brilliant.

CarrotPuff · 11/06/2019 19:30

I've tried dextrose tablets emummy and found those ok. I don't know how much of eating during run is psychological though? Unfortunately I really don't like ginger unless it's in a curry, so that one's out for me too!

Which marathon are you training for?

emummy · 11/06/2019 21:25

It's Loch Ness in October. I usually only take food for runs of 9 miles or more, less than that I know I'm ok. I think the body has enough glycogen for 2 hours so maybe less than that it is psychological but there's nothing wrong with that if it helps!

Had to force myself out this morning but good once I was out. Very muddy through the woods was worried I was going to face plant.
I’m going to Loch Ness on holiday in the summer emummy Not sure if I’ll do any running as we will be doing lots of walking/hiking. (Hills are a novelty to us Fen Folk Grin)

Remember your midge spray IRun! Hope you have a great holiday; my brother lives in Inverness, it's a lovely part of the world.

Went out for my first post race run yesterday morning legs definitely still felt a bit tired. Planning to do my first park run this Saturday. If I don't forget to print the barcode 😬

TriSkiRun99 · 13/06/2019 21:43

Finally shaking off the virus did a slow 5k on Monday, and v.slow 10k on Wednesday, with a swim tonight so nice to have my mojo coming back. Hope it stops me waking up at 4am, as my flipping hormones are playing havoc again with anxiety, flushes and sleep, being peri-menopausal is shit Sad but running does help.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 13/06/2019 23:05

Well sorry I’ve not been around. I’ve dislocated and broken my shoulder like a massive tit so no running for me for a while.

emummy · 14/06/2019 12:34

Oh no Whoops that's awful! You poor thing. Is it very sore still? I hope you're recovering well

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2019 14:27

I hope it helps TriSki, well done for getting back into it.
