This is a thread to talk about all things running and support each other through the highs and lows. All are welcome, from absolute beginners to experts!
We keep a running total of everyone's miles for the month, so feel free to add yours on. Current total for March is:

204.3

It’s v sore and looks like it’ll be a long recovery from what the consultant said. Gutted. I’m so grumpy right now. Might ask if I can treadmill walk in a week or so as I am missing the endorphins and feel like a blob of inactivity

emummy · 14/06/2019 20:07

Easy run tonight, last before 10k race on Sunday.
Whoops what a nightmare. I would have thought walking would be ok, not sure about the treadmill though - losing your balance would be disastrous! Let's hope you make a steady recovery without complications.

Good luck for Sunday! I’m supposed to be doing 10k on a new bit of road in July but doubt I’ll make it somehow. Was excited about trying for a time too
I’ll stay on here and encourage you lot though

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 14/06/2019 21:30

Maybe I’ll name change to whoopstherewentmyshoulder

TriSkiRun99 · 14/06/2019 22:22

Whoops hope you are on the mend soon. My DH got knocked off his bike last year and had a badly injured shoulder he ended up walking miles with it in a sling as he had to be off work as couldn’t drive. He really enjoyed his daily long walks, hope your able to get out and about too for your mental health.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 14/06/2019 23:50

I can see me doing that tbh! I like a walk but my legs will want to run. Walking may do for now!

CarrotPuff · 15/06/2019 08:11

Whoops sorry to hear about your shoulder. Hope the recovery is quick!

Slightly stupid question... but what do you do with your parkrun barcode? Do you pin it to the T-shirt like during a race?

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 15/06/2019 08:20

I had mine in a pocket when I did it but you could
Pin it in cling film if raining

CarrotPuff · 15/06/2019 08:21

So it doesn't need to be on display?

IRun4Me · 15/06/2019 08:24

Oh no whoops wishing you a speedy recovery.
Tri I’m in exactly the same position as you with the middle of the night insomnia due to peri-menopause. I try and get out for a run as often as possible but some days I am just too exhausted. I’m hoping it is a phase and doesn’t go on too long!!
Good luck to everyone with races this weekend

emummy · 15/06/2019 08:46

Carrot you need the barcode for the end of the run when it will get scanned along with a finish token that you get when you cross the line. So tuck it away somewhere safe till the dnf

OP posts:
emummy · 15/06/2019 08:46

The end, not the dnf!

Thanks, I'm back now and showered. Finished at 31:18. I can't say I enjoyed it that much, it was so crowded at the start! I think I prefer to run on my own... (I also don't understand how they time everyone individually, but it was pretty accurate!)

I enjoy volunteering at Parkrun more than running it! Marshalled this morning, it was great fun. Ours is quite small so less crowded. Well done Carrot!

I dislike ours but it will maybe out me to say why! Great time there...watched my son run this morning and was itching to be running too

Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/06/2019 18:07

Hello! I've recently started running again. I used to run a lot from 20 - 25 but stopped.

I'm 40 now and apart from the odd run every few months and a half marathon I did for a dog charity on a whim almost 2 years ago, I've been largely inactive.

I started on 1st June. My DH has no interest in exercise, so be good to have somewhere to talk about it.

My miles so far are :- 36

emummy · 15/06/2019 18:56

Welcome Chesney! I started running at 42 having done a bit as a teenager. I enjoy it a lot more this time round! Adding your miles to our group total for June boosts us to 157.2

It’s shit isn’t it irunforme.. hopefully this too will pass yet another 6hr sleep last night. But got up and we did family ParkRun. I had youngest who whinges a lot! DH ran with eldest who wanted her first sub-30 as she’s been close a couple of times but the wind has been too strong, today she did it though Yah!
Then got a quiet ME swim in after to just stretch it all out whilst DH had the kids Smile

Chesneyhawkes1 · 15/06/2019 19:53

Sorry I've realised I'm meant to add my miles on and put the new total 🤦🏼‍♀️

I've been building my miles up over the last 2 weeks. My longest run is up to 7.5 so far. Tomorrow I'm going to go for 8.5 mostly off road if I can remember the route.

I've entered a 10 mile race in September as I need an end goal to keep me motivated.

So the plan is to make my longest run 12 miles or so in training. Then my shorter faster runs slowly make longer so I can hopefully run the 10 miles in a decent(ish) time.

I've got ages yet so am trying to just enjoy being out running regularly again for now.

Alex3101 · 15/06/2019 20:45

So I did my Trail Marathon today in Snowdonia. It went better than I thought, 4 minutes slower than my best time here so 2nd fastest. I was pretty strong at the end but struggled a bit between miles 14 and 17.

Wow Alex well done! There's always a tough spell in longer races I find, especially ones as hilly as that! Hope you are having a lovely evening with a wee reward or two.
I'm also peri-menopausal, it's lovely! My favourite is the irregular periods, what a joy to have one 10 days after the last one! Sleep disturbance is a real pain, I might get back on the Kalms and cherry juice combo I used last year. Fingers crossed for a good sleep tonight before tomorrow's 'undulating' 10k.

emummy · 16/06/2019 11:44

Survived the 10k and got under an hour, which I didn't expect! Lovely sunny day, helpful breeze and a perfectly placed water station three quarters of the way up the big hill! Really enjoyed it and the ice cream afterwards.

Great job @emummy. Sounds like you had a good day.

TriSkiRun99 · 16/06/2019 21:30

Good running alex that looks like a really tough run. Well done emummy.

I had my furtherest sea swim today the chop made it challenging and my body surprising tired after. I’m quite a newbie to sea swimming buts it’s such a buzz for the mind. Planning long run tomorrow morning hope the weather stays good.

TriSkiRun99 · 17/06/2019 11:48

Long run done but humidity killed me I was exhausted by the end 18k. Think that’s 11m?
