Another run with DS. Getting his pacing better. Now to stop him running more effectively and less like Phoebe from Friends Grin
466.2

IRun4Me · 31/05/2019 10:55

Efficiently- that was the word I was looking for. Not effectively. Me and my peri-menopausal brain!!

FATEdestiny · 31/05/2019 13:41

May total 166.5 I think.

Kedgeree · 31/05/2019 20:24

Ops no sorry, I've added that 7.5 to Fate personal total 🙄👵🏻.
So mine to add is 7.5 miles.

I had hoped to become a ParkRun tourist today but alas the head-cold has taken hold so I bailed & now sat at a trampoline park so the kids can burn off steam whilst DH has gone on long bike ride.

Easy run in light drizzle today, nice & mild though so shorts & t shirt. Was RD at parkrun yesterday in glorious sunshine, had a great day.

Went out with the dog early before got too warm. Thought I’d aim for 4 or 5 at a push but it was so nice I kept going and managed 7 miles. Longest run in 2 months. The last mile was a bit hard though.

Can I join? Did my 5th parkrun yesterday and I finally managed a sub-30 (29:33). I’ve started back running 3 times a week since March this year, after starting and not finishing C25K over a year ago. Would really love to sign up for a 10K in July but not sure if I’ll be able to run the distance, feel so tired at the end of a 5k run!

Welcome Sparkle! Well done on your sub-30. I'm sure you could manage the 10k; it's just a case of gradually increasing the distance on one of your runs till you get there. I remember being amazed that anyone would run that far when I started!

Nice run in breezy, sunny conditions tonight. Just 5km down to Bootcamp so tested my speed and felt good at 27:49 carrying water and other gear in backpack. Cheered me up because last week's runs felt awful.

Gah. Nothing since last week busy week and wedding prep (not mine but I take a lot of scrubbing up!). Maybe go tomorrow.
Well done everyone

emummy · 04/06/2019 11:19

Tempo run this morning, nice cloudy conditions.

6 miles on Saturday, then 3 this morning. Done first mile in under 9 minutes for the first time! (8:59 😂)

Race on Sunday, eek! Was doing some strength training yesterday and will do another one tomorrow. Probably should have been doing it all along 😬 but better late than never!

Welcome Sparkle
Well done Carrot and good luck.
Run in the rain last night and short run to and from Bootcamp this morning.

Really enjoyable interval session this morning - there's a sentence I never thought I'd write! It was pouring rain and on a hilly track in the forest but for some reason it was fun. I even got down to a pace of 7:36 a mile - down a very steep hill but still!

Easy run in the warm sunshine. Bit of a shock after recent weather, but it's ok, normal service will be resumed tomorrow for parkrun - it will be pouring!

Can I join in? This is a good thread for keeping me inspired.

I’m new to running and did couch 25k in March/April/May and am now trying to speed up a bit to get under 30 minutes.

A couple of questions: my whole face turns completely bright red when I run. Any chance this will reduce as I get fitter? It’s a bit embarrassing! Also a few times I’ve got a bit of acid reflux when running which I never normally suffer from. Any tips on avoiding it?

emummy · 08/06/2019 07:40

Welcome miff! Not sure what you can do about the red face, I know a number of people who get that. It may reduce as you get fitter but I don't know for sure. I usually only get it on hot days and avoid wearing pink t shirts then! With the reflux, are those runs when you've eaten at a different time or eaten something you don't usually have? Or are they harder runs where you've pushed a bit more? I get reflux if I've had more fizzy drinks that week! I also used to get it a lot at bootcamp, I guess with all the bending up and down for squats and press ups etc but it has randomly gone now. If you can't work out a reason you could try taking antacid tablets before a run to see if that helps.

OP posts:
miffmufferedmoof · 08/06/2019 08:55

Thanks emummy. The reflux has mainly been when I’ve been pushing harder than normal, though might also be related to not having a long enough gap between eating and running. I can’t run on an empty stomach though, I just have no energy!
Good tip about avoiding pink! I do need to get some warm weather running gear. I’ve been wearing full length sports leggings and a baggy t-shirt so that’s probably not helping with the red face.
Trying to decide whether to go for a run or a cycle today. I’m going to start cycling to work and need to practice!

CarrotPuff · 08/06/2019 10:08

Miff I get the reflux if I eat before run. I can get away with a banana, but that's about it. Most of the time I don't bother.

Which is what I was going to ask actually, what do people eat before the race? The run doesn't start until 10, but I'll be heading out at 8 I think. I'm very prone to stitches though, so I don't know if I should just stick to a banana or 2? Would that be enough?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/06/2019 11:22

Carrot I usually run fasted, so before my half I just ate quite a lot of carbs the few days before, then on the day I had a strong coffee and just used gels during the race (think I used 3 in total) then ate afterwards. I was so worried I'd get a stitch if I ate.

CarrotPuff · 08/06/2019 11:56

Thanks bear, I don't eat during running, I think I'd get sick if I did. Think I'll just eat a banana first thing and hope for the best!

emummy · 08/06/2019 14:00

I usually have granola with yoghurt around 2 hours before & depending on the length of the race I might have s but if a protein bar about an hour before. Good luck - is it tomorrow?
