So I managed 60 lengths today, chuffed with myself, then some one mentioned that if I did 64 that would be a mile, so new target for tomorrow.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 16/09/2019 13:53

Apparently I swim like I have twisted frogs legs Blush One leg kicks out more than the other and I'm kind of twisted. My back is in spasm though and I wonder if this is why. Enthusiasm over form is me!

MinnieMountain · 16/09/2019 16:33

I did my 2km breaststroke in 45 minutes today, which is a definite improvement.

TriSkiRun99 · 17/09/2019 12:12

Wow minnie that’s fast how do you get that fast doing breastroke? Any hints or tips? I like BS but it never gets much faster Smile

Spiderpants · 17/09/2019 14:03

Wow, that's fast really impressive
Heres me being chuffed with finally getting 64 lengths done.

MzHz · 17/09/2019 14:48

There’s a guy (power lifter) on our fb group who has just started- he’s struggling at 50m.

We’ve all been there. Some of us more recently, it’s a process we all go through and we can but wonder at those who swim further

What about Sarah Thomas? 4x channel swim! 130 miles in 50 hours!

If you get to see her training schedule and times it blows your mind! We can only swim our best swim, and some days our good swims are elusive... keep going!

MinnieMountain · 17/09/2019 15:07

Thanks Grin Erm, I swim lots. But I don't like FC.

Spiderpants 64 is really good. I was doing 40 last September.

Training for a big swim got me to increase my distance.

TriSkiRun99 · 18/09/2019 10:02

That Sarah 4x channel swim of130 miles in 50 hours is just mind blowing and after breast cancer treatment she must have amazing mental strength just incredible.

I’m on the bench at the moment fighting off DDs cold which has left me just utterly drained at moment Sad hopefully I’ll back in the pool by the weekend if it doesn’t turn into a full sinus stuff fest.

MinnieMountain · 18/09/2019 13:42

I'll say! I stopped swimming half way through my radiotherapy. She had chemo to contend with too.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 18/09/2019 13:58

My mind is blown by her quadruple crossing, I can’t even imagine staying awake for 50+ hours, let alone swimming the channel at the same time. I’d love to see her training schedule...!

BestIsWest · 19/09/2019 19:36

That’s such a fast time too - are my maths wrong or is that about 15 minutes per km?

MzHz · 20/09/2019 07:39

Don’t forget the tides assist so it’s 22 miles per crossing, as the crow swims flies, but the tide takes you in a wiggle trajectory

My pal who swam the channel a few years ago did over 56 miles in her crossing and it took about 16 hours.

MzHz · 20/09/2019 07:40

@CorrigansDoorKnob - she’s posted training plans on her fb page before, will see if I can find it for you later

MzHz · 20/09/2019 08:41

Here is a screen shot from her fb photos

Swimming for fitness (part 4). Everyone welcome.
MzHz · 20/09/2019 08:42

That’s a week’s training apparently

CorrigansDoorKnob · 20/09/2019 09:14

Crikey, she’s quick. I love the 2000m warm up!

TriSkiRun99 · 20/09/2019 10:31

Really fascinating and I too was 😂at “2k warm up” such a different world, well hats off to her if that’s what floats your boat I hope she’s proud of her achievement and doesn’t get a “what next slump”.
I’m still on the sick bench grrr back to school bugs feeling fed up now, but then really guilty as it’s not anything life changing or life limiting just a crappy cold/throat infection, but given in and taken day off work to veg.

MzHz · 20/09/2019 11:40

My warm up is 1000m, but nowhere near that pace! Plus I do in a week what she does in a morning!!

Herculean!

Spiderpants · 20/09/2019 14:10

She's amazing - cant even imagine swimming that much, let alone at that pace.
I managed 72 laps today, I guess everyone has to start somewhere

Sunnydaysandholidays · 20/09/2019 23:32

I’ve just joined a group swim session at my local pool. It’s a hour session with sets of strokes etc. My problem is I can’t count lengths at all. I swim regularly but usually just swim to time so have no idea how far I’ve done really, it’s always a guess.
Can anyone recommend a watch they use that counts time/distance? I’ve looked on Amazon but don’t know where to start really. Any help appreciated!

MinnieMountain · 21/09/2019 08:05

Spiderpants 72 laps is really good. I only do 80. And that was rather reluctantly yesterday.

TriSkiRun99 · 21/09/2019 09:03

She has written her version of the swim challenge on FB it makes for an incredible read when you realise how sick she was from the start vomiting most of her food up. And the impact the tides had on the speed you have to swim to cross them. Flipping heck amazing achievement for her and her support crew - a team effort.

TriSkiRun99 · 21/09/2019 09:05

72 laps is more than I’ve ever done Smile I think I stoped at 64L because it was a mile and my shoulder was getting sore, most swims I only do a km now.

tizwozliz · 22/09/2019 13:27

"Apparently I swim like I have twisted frogs legs blush One leg kicks out more than the other and I'm kind of twisted"

Out of synch breast stroke legs is really common, it can actually be bad for your back so worth trying to correct. If you're somewhere with access to smaller floats, being on your back with a float under each arm watching what your legs are doing is a good start to try and correct.

I'm really out of the loop with my swimming right now. Daren't even look how far off my yearly goal i am.

Whattodowithaminute · 24/09/2019 15:58

managed 50L today and felt really comfortable so could have continued but had to collect the kids... I might go again on Friday after drop off to see if I can do the mile...!
