Hi @YoBeaches. I did a 2km sea swim a few years ago. Gradually increasing my lengths worked fine for me.

YoBeaches · 20/03/2021 16:33

Thanks @MinnieMountain can I ask how long it took?

SSwimCycle21 · 26/03/2021 21:56

Just watched this SO want to get back in the pool and try some of his tips out. I’ve kept swimming in the sea weekly since November but mostly head out breaststroke now as it’s too cold for much head in stuff.

tizwozliz · 28/03/2021 11:12

I failed to secure a place at the outdoor pool this week - tickets went on sale at 7am and i logged on then to find already 221 in the queue. All gone by the time I got to the site! I'll try again next week, but hopefully we're still on track for the indoor pools to open.

The outdoor venue I swum at last year is open from the 7th but i think i'll wait the extra week given the water temp is about 10.5 right now

MinnieMountain · 30/03/2021 06:00

I swam 1km yesterday. It felt amazing. I was surprised at how short of breath I felt to start with but soon got into it. It looked like some club swimmers had come from a fair way away.

tizwozliz · 05/04/2021 10:27

Swim booked in for next Monday :-)

profpoopsnagle · 09/04/2021 19:18

Me too @tizwozliz, Monday and Tuesday so far. Hope it's not too disheartening after almost 4 months.

TheOrigRights · 12/04/2021 09:55

Hello fellow swimmers!

First swim since 10th Dec for me today - that's 4 months. Eeek. It's gonna be slow. Slow but GOOD.
Found my goggles so I don't have to wear DS2's!

A few of us had planned a lake swim on Easter Monday, but we all bailed due to the snow.

tizwozliz · 12/04/2021 10:07

I've been today :-) 2.9km Felt very weak

2.9km! That's good going.
TheOrigRights · 12/04/2021 13:37

1K done. The first 16 lengths were tough - just getting used to the rhythm again. Then I relaxed into it and felt better and then I felt good and it was really lovely to be back.

I think my arms will ache tomorrow. I have also chaffed from the arm hole of my tankini top; it's quite fitted.

MinnieMountain · 13/04/2021 14:12

I’m swimming in the indoor pool tonight for the first time in ages.

I cried off the lido last week as it was cold and I had a cold too. Bad combination.

tizwozliz · 13/04/2021 15:17

I did another 3km this morning, only wish the showers were open too.

Enjoy your swim @MinnieMountain

profpoopsnagle · 13/04/2021 19:52

I managed 800m yesterday and 1 km today, my arm and chest muscles really ached though! So many other swimmers were resting more often, or much slower, and stretching out quite a bit. They have opened up our showers for the adult sessions though, and it's so much nicer to be able to wash the chlorine off straight away.

fattygoesswimming · 14/04/2021 05:31

I'm delighted to see these threads still going, I started the original one. Now back to swimming after an enforced break and can't wait to get in the pool, my son and I are going to do it together.

MinnieMountain · 14/04/2021 06:14

Thanks @tizwozliz. I did 2km which was my usual until they limited the sessions to 45 minutes. Now they are an hour I have time (I do breast stroke). It felt amazing.

It’s nice to be able to shower again @profpoopsnagle.

fattygoesswimming · 14/04/2021 12:15

I've booked 3 swims for next week and hope to get one on thursday and friday when bookings open. I'm not sure how swimming before work will pan out but we'll see; pool at 7am, work at 9am (just down the road) but I'm giving it a go and we will see.

tizwozliz · 14/04/2021 12:16

Luckily I'm working from home, so can manage swimming before work. Otherwise with the lack of showers it wouldn't be an option

I should have time to run home and have a shower first as it's all quite local. I wish I'd been able to WFH but with my job it's never possible.
WolfMother326 · 15/04/2021 17:12

hello all, so glad to find this thread. I love swimming. It's been such a loss over the past year. I didn't feel comfy going to indoor pools last summer, so only made it to a lido once, but have now been vaccinated. Been 4 times now since pools have reopened, and feel like I've gotten a piece of myself back!

I'm 22 weeks pregnant so taking it a bit easy. Also the slots are only 1 hour long in and out, so I can only get in about 800m with how slow I am at the moment. Still, it's delightful!!

Any other pregnant swimmers here, or people who swam during previous pregnancies?

fattygoesswimming · 15/04/2021 19:56

I swam through both of mine right up to my due date, it was so lovely not to feel like a whale even if I looked like one GrinWink

MilkshakeandChips5 · 16/04/2021 15:07

Regular swimmers - is anyone else finding it impossible to book Lane time in their normal pool? Pre-lockdown (even in November) I swam 3-4 times a week and would regular be the only person in the pool, particularly on weekend evenings, the pool has rarely been busy in the last three years I've been a member. Since Monday, every single pool slot is fully booked for the next 10 days with a waiting list of 8/9 people - am I missing something??

I haven't had a problem this time around. It was a bit difficult after the first big lockdown.

I think you just need to give it a couple of weeks - it's like the New Year gym memberships.
Also, there is less capacity (due to fewer people per session and fewer sessions due to deep cleaning) so that will have an impact as well.

That does seem extreme though. Have you phoned the pool to see if something is awry with the booking system?

TheOrigRights · 16/04/2021 15:44

I've only been able to do once this week due to other demands on my time (work, child, MOT, random visit from ex SIL).
And the arm chaffing...it's a graze now but quite sore and its position means I'm aggravating it when I run/sweat.

I have chaffed only once in my life, and that was 6 years ago during the London marathon and between my thighs (never have I been so happy to see St John Ambulance holding out tubs of Vaseline!).

tizwozliz · 16/04/2021 16:01

Over 18 swimming clubs aren't allowed back yet, so more people going to public sessions that wouldn't normally plus less public sessions on offer. It's Easter holidays as well so that might impact. I'm sure some people may have previously been avoiding the pool but are now vaccinated too.

I've managed 4 sessions this week, although 2 via the wait list system and I've had to book 7 days in advance when they're first released. I'm expecting it to ease off.
