Hi,
This is my first post here but I also have just started the c25k program. Im just about to go out for w1R2... Determined to stick at it, I've started a few times before. Lots of inspiring running stories here to help with the motivation!

Stick with it! I did C25K 3 years ago and now I can run marathons!
I’m nearly 50. Never was a runner at school. Not particularly overweight but definitely unfit. Could not run for 60 seconds.
Just keep going and trust in the programme!

Can I join in? I started on Wednesday & am up to wk1r2 but I'm probably only running for 45secs of the run part...

I'm an early riser so have been heading out at 6:30am & as a PP says most of the houses are in darkness. I'm aiming for Mon/Wed/Fri doing C25K then a lovely walk over the weekend (I usually walk about 3k 4-5 times a week).

I use C25K app, map my walk & my amazon music app at the same time - the only thing is that map my walk doesn't keep me updated on distance/progress as she does when not using C25K.

I'm not amazing with technology, so can you use two apps at once? I'm just using s podcast at the minute but would love to get my own playlist or even a book to listen to. My phone is an android if that makes a difference?

Yes @Macs18, you can use several apps at the same time.

To listen to a playlist or audiobook you will need to use the C25K app instead of the podcast. You can download the app here:

www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/#one-you-couch-to-5k-app

Click "download the app from Google Play"

For music I use Spotify. I use the paid for subscription but I think there's a free one aswel.

For audio books, most library services have an app that will allow you to listen to audio books free of charge. My library service (Nottinghamshire) uses the RBdigital app. You create an account using your library card number and then use that account to log into the app.

You can also use Audible, which is Amazon's audiobook app. You have to pay for the audio books on this though.

Thank you so much! Might make the next run more interesting!

I have just done run 2 of week 1! For some reason it hurt more than the first time! But I finished it, I am 3 stone overweight, had a baby 6 months ago and have a heart condition! So I'm pushing myself to do this!

Hello, can I join? Just done w1r1 after literally years of putting it off. It was great and I felt a real buzz afterwards. Just got to keep the motivation going!

Please can I ask for some advice? How do you plan your routes - are there some good apps to help with this?

@moose234

We're on the same day, I just did run 2 of week 1 this morning. Aiming for the next one on Monday, hoping this thread will hold me accountable!

I know running isn't going to make me lose weight alone. I need to get my eating on track too. Does anyone have any stories of losing some weight doing couch to 5k? Do you notice a difference in your shape at the end?

W2R2 done and dusted. Nice to do it in the daylight instead of the dark for a change

Fatedestiny if you don't mind saying, what do you weigh now. I love hearing all the inspiring success stories from the C25K graduates who go on to even bigger and better! Smile

My goal is really just to be able to run for about 30 mins.

I did week 1 run 3 today, was quite tricky and my legs were a bit sore.

I'm doing it in the gym so I can choose how fast I'm going etc.

I made a mistake today though by switching to Sarah Millican. She's not half as encouraging as Jo Whiley!

irunlikeahipoo · 12/01/2019 23:08

Hezz I love Jo very encouraging 😂
I’m on week 7 Run 2 so I am running for 25 mins never thought I would be able to do that in a million years
But I do mine runs mainly at the gym on the treadmill
I normally do week 6 run 2 first then do whatever run I should be on so I do two runs
I find I’m much better on the treadmill than outside

Hezz · 13/01/2019 00:02

I'm using a treadmill at the gym. Not sure if I've got the pace right though.

I'm walking at 5.5km/hr and running (plodding) at 7km/hr. Does that sound about right?

Report
Hezz · 13/01/2019 00:03

And running for 25 minutes sounds brilliant.

Report
vjg13 · 13/01/2019 06:56

Hezz I'm walking at a similar speed to you but was running at 6km/h an hour and now the runs are 5 mins have gone down to 5.9km/h. I don't think the pace matters at the early stages as it's about stamina.

Attached is my journey from morbidly obese (Jan 18) to healthy BMI (Sep 17), via dieting and running. Since Sept I got down to 9st9 just before Christmas. Gain over Christmas but back to calorie deficit now. Currently 9st13. Aiming for 8st 11 - which will be half of my original 17st 8.5 weight.

I did Couch to 5K in April last year. Yesterday I did a 25km / 15.5 mile run, 3 hours and the furthest I've ever run. I run every day.

@Macs18 nice to see someone else on the same day as I am!

@FATEdestiny That's amazing! I'm 11st 8 but because of my height, I'm classed as obese, so it's good to see it can be done! You should be so proud!

Does anyone have a suggestion to find a running partner, as I am doing it alone?

Fatedestiny Wow! What else can be said!

Report
vjg13 · 13/01/2019 11:05

Hezz, I'm actually walking slower than you too, up to about 5km/h.

Hi, did w1r2 this morning, feel great but am wondering about how I’ll manage on the longer runs as it’s very hilly where I am, need to plan so that I’m not doing all the runs uphill and the walks downhill!

Fatedestiny wow that’s amazing, what an inspiration!

Report
Hezz · 13/01/2019 12:00

Fate, that's outstanding. Well done to you Wine

I think I'm going to slow down a bit then, I feel like my legs are going to drop off by the end.

Hi can I jump in?!
I did this 6 yrs ago, was up to 10k and rewarded myself with a 6 year break...sorriest thing I ever did. Half heartedly tried it a couple of times since but my heart wasn't in it.
Now it is! Just did week one run 3 and my dd8 and ds11 are doing it with me and they love it!
Enjoying reading everyone's progress and Fatedestiny...Wow!!!!
Anyone of any age can do this and it's just a fantastic plan.
Enjoy everyone!

Hi, can I join please?

2 years ago I was running 2x 5k + 1x 10 a week (using the c210k zen labs app). Then I got injured and am back to square one Angry & Sad. I miss running. I loved it for the brain space and the sense of freedom. Couldn’t care less about weight loss or toning, for me it’s about my mind.

So today, I bit the bullet and pulled my trainers on, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I need to keep up with my physio exercises and stick to the c25k programme of 3 runs a week to prevent injuring myself again.

W1D1 done.

Well done and happy running to everyone else on the c25k journey!
