Other day I was listening to the radio and they played Prince's Lets Go Crazy....do not try to match steps to beats with that...I was exhausted!

APurpleSquirrel · 21/02/2019 09:49

My course is on pause 😔 After Monday 's run my knee was painful & has been since. Struggling to walk up stairs, swollen by the evening so am off to see the musculoskeletal expert at my drs next week to see what's going on. Hope it's not serious like a tear. Think it's the MCL 😩

vjg13 · 21/02/2019 10:53

Oh no apurplesquirrel! That sounds really painful. Hope it eases.

Imstickingwiththisone · 21/02/2019 23:13

Ooh a thread! I've not read it all but jumping in quickly, I think something like this will keep me motivated! I usually say things out loud when I don't want to do it as then I have to follow through...but I do not want to become a running bore!

I jumped in at week 2 R1 on Tuesday and was hoping to run again tonight but my legs are still really tight! Struggling with stairs, hoping it'll shift by tomorrow though so I can keep some momentum.

Was this the same for others? I know I skipped week 1 (foolish me) but I'm so surprised that 90 seconds of running can do this to me Shock

timetomoveon · 21/02/2019 23:22

Hope you recover quickly @apurplesquirrel.
@imstickingwiththisone - I started at the very beginning so I’m not sure to be honest.

Just finished w7r3. 3.65km in the 25 mins which is a little bit faster than r2 this week but not close to the 30 min 5k pace. Trying not to fixate on that though - I’m running more than I’ve ever run in my life Grin

Imstickingwiththisone · 21/02/2019 23:30

Which app do you use timetomoveon? I went for a very basic one because some of them were over 100mb in size and I'm used to having low memory on my phone. But if I get to the later stages knowing pace and distance covered would be really good to know.

Read a few pages of this thread now and it's got me excited, I hope I can achieve what you all are Grin fingers crossed I can get out tomorrow or I will be mega grumpy

Coldandfrosty · 22/02/2019 01:33

apurplesquirrel to help knees try doing clam shell exercises. They are mentioned up this thread a few times with a link t video. Someone reccomeneddd me them on here and I've had no knee pain since the week after I started. Also I iced my knee a few times a week.

Coldandfrosty · 22/02/2019 01:37

I've lost near enough 7 stone now.

Last night I went to a jogging group. I said I was doing couch to 5k and was on week 7. They deemed me NOT A BEGINNER and put me in with the 5k run. Which I completed with minimal walking. So proud.

If you have a local jogging group do go along. They were so delightfully welcoming and encouraging. I was last. But it didn't matter at all and I had a jog coach with me. I feel so proud. That's why I can't sleep now am still up on a high

Fiddie · 22/02/2019 07:45

Well done everyone, I'm wk 7r2 was going to do it today but my leg feels very tight so I'm going to wait until tomorrow.

I did think about trying it on the cross trainer but not sure if that'll be better for my leg or not.

Keep going all the new people, it works!

timetomoveon · 22/02/2019 08:13

@imstickingwiththisone I’m using Runtastic as recommended by someone else (vjg I think) upthread. I only started using it this week as I wanted to have an idea as to how close I would be to the 5k.

@coldandfrosty - yay for you! Not a beginner :) you are a runner now (I know that because Michael Johnson told me and if I am then you are too!)

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 22/02/2019 08:19

codandfrosty...not a beginner! How fab! :o

purple hope you get your knee sorted

fiddie I am doing the whole thing on the cross trainer...very iffy ankles and am up to W7 with very very few issues.....I did have to move the footplate forwards a few weeks back as I seemed to be doing something odd, but since then not a jot of bother
I shall be upgrading to the treadmill and repeating it when I am done with the 9 weeks.

APurpleSquirrel · 22/02/2019 15:06

Thanks everyone.
Ok, so paramedic (at drs) thinks it just a sprain/aggravated by the increased activity. She did various manipulations & apart from one, none hurt so guessing that means no tear etc. Has advised rest, ice packs, increased pain meds & then to see the musculoskeletal expert next week.
Have bought some codeine/para & ibuprofen & going to rest up now. Will get a ice pack sorted too. She said it could take a couple of weeks.
Hopefully I'll be back in my trainers ASAP.

Imstickingwiththisone · 22/02/2019 18:30

Thanks timetomoveon I'll bear it in mind for when I'm further on.

Shepherdspy83 · 22/02/2019 20:03

I started back in jan then got a bug & stopped for weeks. But started again & back on it now & just did w3r3. Signed myself up for a 10k in summer so got to keep at it this time. Lovely to see it working for people that started back in jan!

fiddie · 23/02/2019 16:03

Bit of a fail on wk7 r2 today. Started off okay but my leg was really hurting so I had to stop after 5 minutes.

I finished off with another 20 minutes on the cross trainer but felt disappointed that I hadn't done it properly.

fiddie · 23/02/2019 16:03

All at once I mean, by not properly .

Embracethechaos · 23/02/2019 16:16

I did some of couch to 5k a couple of years ago, then did my local parkrun which I found more fun. When I got pregnant I stopped running, baby is now 8 months and I've gained 15kg in the past 2 I'm too unfit to start at parkrun but that will be my end goal for c25k. Got some New shoes today as my old ones were falling apart.

Imstickingwiththisone · 23/02/2019 19:56

I'm going to give the park run a bash embracetgechaos it sounds like it's a good atmosphere. Don't really fancy going beyond 5k as it starts to get a bit time consuming then. Can't imagine getting to that point anyway!

dementedma · 23/02/2019 20:52

did W6R2 today and found it really hard. I'm struggling with W6 after finding the 20 min W5 run not too bad. Feel like I'm getting worse at the moment.

Violetroselily · 24/02/2019 09:36

I tried to do W8R2 this morning in the worst fog I have ever seen. Had to stop after 15 minutes because I couldn't breathe. Managed to do another 8 mins but then stopped again.

Annoyed that I had to abandon the run but I'll try again. W8R1 was fine so I know I can do 28 minutes...just not today.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 24/02/2019 09:45

demented why not repeat week 5 but faster, then you can go at W6 in a more civilised manner, and repeat if required

it's really foggy here too this morning, I can barely see across the yard to get to the washhouse! :o

timetomoveon · 24/02/2019 11:08

@dementedma I found the beginning of week 6 hard as well. I think someone else said that there comes a point where it’s harder to stop and start running again than it is to just keep going. Maybe you’ve got to that point.

Coldandfrosty · 24/02/2019 11:16

I've just done week 8 r1. And managed the full 28 min. So delighted. I started in Jan and didn't think I would ever get this far.

Imstickingwiththisone · 24/02/2019 13:04

Well done coldandfrosty January wasn't long ago, it was definitely worth the effort you've put in!

Fiddie · 24/02/2019 15:41

Well done everyone.

Demented I found the 10 minutes run, 3 walking and 10 minutes running real I really hard. I didn't want to start again after the walking.

You can do it though, just keep on keeping on.
