My plan now is to run an hour x 3 a week. I find I eat less in the evening after a run, so I am hoping the two together will help me lose what I need.

APurpleSquirrel · 18/02/2019 14:18

Wow 8kg! That's awesome!

I've just completed W2R1 - was surprised how the first few runs didn't feel too bad but the final one was a killer! Had to walk a bit of it as was wheezing (have asthma, but did take my inhalers before the run). Still am very pleased I made it through & ran for over 10mins.

Question- I'm running on pavements mostly around new build estates & am finding the changing camber of the drives etc is making my knees ache - any advice? I try switching sides of the road but my left knee is really not happy. I'd live to run on a flat surface but only option from my house would be country lanes & im a bit nervous of running on the road.

Fiddie · 18/02/2019 15:19

I've just done wk6 r3, 25 minutes and it was ok!

fiddie · 18/02/2019 18:44

@APurpleSquirrel I've never run outside! I found a really cheap gym and use the running machine

vjg13 · 18/02/2019 19:49

I'm running on a treadmill too, I bought my husband one for his 50th and one of us loves it!

amazonianwoman · 18/02/2019 19:50

Thanks @Violetroselily I had every intention of starting to cut down on carbs today but was working non stop and without realising managed to eat 4 thick slices of tiger bread for lunch Shock

Well done on your weightloss so far

amazonianwoman · 18/02/2019 19:58

@APurpleSquirrel I drive to an old train track which has been resurfaced (years ago, so worn now in a good way) and it is so much nicer than pavement pounding, and easier on my knees.

Where's your nearest Park Run? Is that a nicer surface?

timetomoveon · 19/02/2019 00:16

@APurpleSquirrel can you run on the actual road on the estate rather than the pavements or is it too busy for that?

StillWould · 19/02/2019 09:26

Can I join?! I did W4 R1 yesterday. I managed the runs just but have my first knee pain today (in my right knee only). I found W3 a struggle and wasn’t able to do it every other day because of family visiting. Should I either persevere with W4 or repeat W3 until I am able to complete it more easily?

timetomoveon · 19/02/2019 09:52

Hi @StillWould - welcome :)
I’ve thought about repeating a run several times but as I’ve always managed to complete it (sometimes v slowly!) I’ve carried on. I think I would only repeat if you weren’t actually able to complete the running portions and had to walk for some of it instead.

StillWould · 19/02/2019 10:38

@timetomoveon thanks that makes sense.

GoodJobShesCute · 19/02/2019 20:34

Can I join I did my first run today! Really enjoyed it (the gorgeous early evening helped) and just nervous now about whether or not I'll actually stick to it. I'm famously fickle!
Think the app is absolutely fantastic I'm so impressed with it.

timetomoveon · 19/02/2019 23:20

Welcome @GoodJobShesCute :)

Just did w7r2. Quite hard this morning but it’s the first run I’ve done at home for nearly 2 weeks and it’s much hotter here than where I’d been away.
I used the Runtastic app (thanks @Violetroselily) and I managed 3.6km in my 25 minutes so I’m definitely not going to make 5k by the end but that will be my next target after I’ve finished.

GoodJobShesCute · 20/02/2019 08:55

Thanks @timetomoveon ! I've downloaded the app it looks good. Well done on your run I can't imagine doing it in hot weather to be honest!

Fiddie · 20/02/2019 09:08

I'm on wk7 r1 today.

We've come a long way in 7 weeks. Welcome to the newbies, it works!

Fiddie · 20/02/2019 13:22

That was hard. I was going to stop at ten minutes but somehow kept going. I didn't enjoy it much Sad

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/02/2019 16:54

i struggled a bit today, we were away, and I do not do running in public, so I was due to do a run on Monday, but didn't

and I usually go out to the shed before breakfast and we didnt get home til after lunch!

ANyhoo...am done, W7R2, and did the longest distance so far.

I am going back to Jo though, Sarah is not doing it for me anymore!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/02/2019 16:55

and well done to all you others, ...it really does work :o

amazonianwoman · 20/02/2019 17:58

W7 seems so far away... I'm impressed.

I like Michael Johnson myself Grin

Violetroselily · 20/02/2019 19:06

I finished W7 last night and I'm not sure how I'm going to manage W8. 25 minutes really felt like my limit, I'm not sure how I'm going to stretch to 28 Sad.

Hope everyone is having a good week

StillWould · 20/02/2019 22:17

Just did W4 R2, it felt slightly easier than last time so I am glad I didn’t go back to the previous week. Thanks @timetomoveon. Knee feels ok (though legs like jelly).

Fabulousinmyforties · 20/02/2019 22:31

Hello,
I’ve just started the prorgram and now I’m on week4run1. I’ll be doing run2 on Friday.

I’m finding that my shin muscles get sore when I am running, to the point that they become the reason I want to stop running.

Any tips on how to avoid this? I have completed the plan a few years ago and vaguely remembering the same pain then. I don’t think it’s shin splints.

amazonianwoman · 20/02/2019 23:33

@Fabulousinmyforties are you wearing the correct trainers for your gait? I used to get this when I ran years ago, switched to different running shoes and the problem went away.

Fabulousinmyforties · 21/02/2019 07:49

Oh, thank you for the tip! I just have big standard ASICS trainers, they are new and the shop assistant recommended as good ones, but I didn’t get my gait assessed. I’ll have to find a store that will do that, I don’t want to end up with longer term aches and pains.

GoodJobShesCute · 21/02/2019 08:56

So in awe of those in the later weeks! Just finished w1r2 and although I was dreading it I really enjoyed it.
Think my music choice is helping as I'm listening to Oasis radio through Spotify and it's so good I want to sing along and flail my arms like Phoebe from Friends!
What is everyone else listening to?
