Hi, first time poster long time reader here. Just got in from completing day one of couch to 5k! So tired but i think maybe worth it, just wondering if anyone else has started and how their experience has been so far / any tipsSmile

My W6R3 went fine and dandy, I did some fast spurts in the last five minutes to get away from the zombies

That's actually why I am doing C25K , survival tactics in the Zombie Apocalypse. I am assuming my dodgy thyroid will protect me from the WWZ fast zombies, so it's just outrunning the WD types I need to do.
Aaaannnnyyyway ... today I did 30 mins on the treadmill, less wobbly than earlier in the week so maybe I will get to be able to run on it . Ankles seem to be holding up too

Really undecided whether to repeat W6R3 or move onto W7 tomorrow.

Well done everyone!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/02/2019 10:30

3 k in 25 minutes is 5 k in 41 minutes iyswim so not far out Violetroselily that's fabulous!

Coldandfrosty · 15/02/2019 10:33

msM Think w6r3 and r7w1 are both 25 min anyway so same thing.

I'm about to head out for my w6r3. Nervous! I found 20 min run ok but have struggled with the 2 since!

Coldandfrosty · 15/02/2019 11:57

I have just done the 25 min run. My phones recorded me doing exactly 5k in 35min 56 seconds. (I started and ended my running app different to the 5k app) can't believe I ran for that long. And at the end when Laura said it's 1 min left speed up if you like...I did! Wtf? Who even am I? I don't know anymore!

vjg13 · 15/02/2019 12:31

I did it! I'm officially a C25K graduate, although in my case it is more of a 4K in the 40 mins! I'm happy to keep repeating the last week for the next 3 weeks before I try and build up speed/distance. Keep going everyone, it is a brilliant programme WinkSmile

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/02/2019 14:31

i looked and it is the same coldandfrosty so that solves that problem! Week seven here I come! I can always hover there for two weeks before moving on! to 28 minutes

...well done that woman!

APurpleSquirrel · 15/02/2019 18:46

Well W1R3 is complete but I found it harder than R2?! Wasn't in the best mood tbh (DH was late home, so had to go out later than planned when it was darker & colder) but really struggled with the second half runs. Not sure I'm ready to move to W2 yet ☹️

Coldandfrosty · 15/02/2019 22:01

@APurpleSquirrel repeat the last week if you needed, much better than pushing on When it's too fast.

@vjg13 fantastic well done! That's awesome

timetomoveon · 16/02/2019 05:02

@vjg13 congratulations!

fiddie · 16/02/2019 10:06

Keep going @APurpleSquirrel some are harder but I've just done it exactly as it's come up, and I've been okay.

45 and never ever exercised in my life and I'm about to run for 25 minutes Shock

TheSteveMilliband · 16/02/2019 10:57

Purple squirrel I've often thought of repeating a run or a week as it seems like it'll be too hard but have surprised myself by being able to do each one as suggested so far (next is W5R3). So don't assume you won't manage it!

dementedma · 16/02/2019 13:22

I did it! W5R3 nailed it. 20 minutes without stopping doing 2.5km. Really happy as was dreading this one.
Going to repeat it tomorrow just to make sure and then onto Week 6.
Can't believe I was struggling to do 90 seconds only 5 weeks ago.

TheSteveMilliband · 16/02/2019 18:45

Me too demented! Didn't feel great but I made it.

Violetroselily · 17/02/2019 09:47

Congratulations @vjg13

Just finished W7R2. I did 3.5km in the 25 minute run, so .5km further than W7R1 and average pace was a whole minute faster.

I weighed myself last night for the first time in months and I've lost 8kg. Still have a long way to go but I'm hoping I will now be motivated to really eat better and keep up the running and swimming.

vjg13 · 17/02/2019 10:04

Thank you, I may have ordered the graduate t shirt linked to earlier! I don't weigh myself but may sneak onto the scales at the GP's next week at my daughter's asthma review and see what I weigh. However, my diet has been pretty crap lately, very little alcohol but a lot of biscuits and sweets Blushas rewards for running and general stress.

vjg13 · 17/02/2019 10:06

8 Kg is a really impressive and encouraging loss. Smile

timetomoveon · 17/02/2019 13:15

Wow @Violetroselily - 8kg is amazing :)
I’m doing w7r1 in the morning.
What are you using to track your distance?

Violetroselily · 17/02/2019 13:30

@timetomoveon I've been using the Runtastic app, it's really easy to use and seems accurate. I start it as I begin running, so ignoring the warm up/down walks. It tells you each time you've done a kilometre and what your pace is.

I don't know if it varies between trainers on the C25K app, but on the Week 7 runs Michael tells you when you've done 5, 12.5, 20 and 24 mins of running, so it's a nice overlay to have Runtastic telling you what distance you've covered at the same time.

Kez200 · 17/02/2019 19:56

I completed week 5 yesterday too. Took it real easy and then upped the pace at 16 minutes. Finished feeling so good! Cant believe I did 20 minutes.

Bring on week 6!

amazonianwoman · 17/02/2019 20:26

A bit late to the party, but can I join in?

Just did W1R2 today, not too bad but would be much easier if I wasn't almost 53 and 5-6 st overweight Blush My 15 yr old daughter came with me for moral support. She's a competitive rower and was an effortless gazelle to my lumbering elephant. But I did it, onwards and upwards.

Coldandfrosty · 17/02/2019 20:55

Amazonian welcome, well done!

Violetroselily · 17/02/2019 22:00

Welcome @amazonianwoman

Well done on starting, you will be amazed at how much you progress

amazonianwoman · 17/02/2019 23:56

@Violetroselily tell me more about your 8kg weightloss Smile Have you been counting calories/cutting down on carbs???

timetomoveon · 18/02/2019 09:51

Well done @amazonianwoman - we all felt like that a few weeks ago but we’ve all kept going and here we are :)
Did w7r1 this morning. I’m away with family for a few nights but still went out at 6 this morning. It’s starting to feel more natural.
I tried Runtastic @Violetroselily but I started it on my walk and then stopped it too soon but it seemed like I was running at about 7min30-50 per km during my run part so I’m quite some way from a 30 min 5k. But I’ll get there at some point - that will be my final end goal after I’ve finished the couch25k.

Violetroselily · 18/02/2019 12:34

@amazonianwoman I've cut down on carbs, but not cut them out totally because I have no willpower to sustain that diet. So I made easy changes like salad instead of sandwiches at lunch, having extra veg at dinner instead of potatoes/pasta/rice/bread etc.

I have a good 5 or 6 stone to lose, so I have a long way to go (and an underactive thyroid making it more difficult) but its promising to see a loss already
