Hi, first time poster long time reader here. Just got in from completing day one of couch to 5k! So tired but i think maybe worth it, just wondering if anyone else has started and how their experience has been so far / any tipsSmile

W5R3 done and I managed the whole 20 minutes without stopping. I spent the whole run thinking about how long was left, but stopping at the end was the hardest bit. 30 secs of jelly legs and then I was ok. Feel like I've broken a big psychological barrier.

FlowersGinStar to everyone approaching the bigger runs - you can do it

Macs18 · 05/02/2019 21:08

@Violetroselily that's brilliant. Well done to you! Good to hear that you managed it... definitely seems like a lot of it is psychological and pacing yourself too!

JSB78 · 05/02/2019 21:22

I’ve got w5r3 coming up on Sunday (w5r1) starts tomorrow and am already getting nervy about it. Keep on looking up on forums to see how people have coped...

Violetroselily · 05/02/2019 21:33

At one point near the end of this run Michael Johnson says something about it being just one foot in front of the other.

For me at least, it's definitley more of a mental barrier than physical (and I don't say that lightly as I'm very obese and very unfit). As far as I was concerned, running for 20 mins was completely unachievable, even up to the point of leaving the house to do it. But once I got going it was fine and I just carried on.

I find breaking it up in my head helps - counting how many songs I will get through, how far I will cover in 5 minute blocks etc.

RenardeRenarde · 05/02/2019 22:02

I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while but had to break cover to say I JUST RAN WEEK 5 RUN 3 Grin

I can’t believe a few short weeks ago 90 seconds of running felt like forever.

I got through today with the help of a Stephen Fry podcast and the knowledge that no matter how hard it felt it would end and I just had to keep slogging.

Thanks to everyone on here that shared their experience so far.

timetomoveon · 05/02/2019 22:29

Just finished w5r2. Can’t believe I can run for 8 mins without stopping. The second block was definitely harder but I did it. I’m dreading Friday morning but I’m encouraged by you completing it @violetroselily. Congrats to you!

JSB78 · 06/02/2019 07:29

Congrats RenardeRenarde! 🏃‍♀️👊🏼

vjg13 · 06/02/2019 09:20

Well done to everyone who has done their 20 minute run, it is such a breakthrough moment.

I just need to need to get my head round doing my next 28 minute one today, it is definitely a mental challenge as well as a physical.

Piebeansandchips · 06/02/2019 19:07

W5R2 done. First 8 mins a breeze, second 8 mins tougher. I'm dreading the next run!
Well done everyone that keeps on plodding!

dementedma · 06/02/2019 20:54

inspired by you week 5ers. I'm dreading even starting w5r1. I've stalled at W4.

Fiddie · 06/02/2019 21:02

W5 r1 was ok, you can do it!

Fiddie · 06/02/2019 21:02

@dementedma I started off thinking I can't do it and just kept plodding and next thing it was over.

Coldandfrosty · 06/02/2019 21:44

Did w5r1 today, found it easier than w4r3.

Well done everyone, we are all doing fab.

vjg13 · 06/02/2019 22:01

I think we all need to trust the programme, It really does prepare you for each stage even if you don't feel you can do it. I managed my 28 minute run today and it was a tiny bit better than my last one. If I can manage 4 more run, I can legitimately order the t shirt!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 06/02/2019 22:54

demented repeat week 4 and ease back in

I knew Wk5 was coming up and was horrified at the 20 min thing, but I did each run twice, so Wk5 has taken me since last week
W5R1 Monday (slowly)
w5R1 Wednesday (slightly speedier)
W5R2 Friday (slow again)
W5R2 Sunday (speedier)
W5R3 yesterday

I went for steady and a last minute and a half of much speedier for R3 and I am going to repeat that tomorrow but being speedier for more of the time

...cos i am on the cross trainer it is really easy to watch the pace, but I do feel an improvement even run to run

I am going to just DO week six, no repeats! I mean did a whole solid 20 minutes so ya know!!

What app do you have?? I have the one with Sarah Millican and Jo Whiley...and because there is a glitch in it i have to keep swapping trainers, I much prefer Jo for the longer runs, I really feel she believes I can do it, whereas Sarah seems to be more encouraging cos i might be not able Hmm

...maybe a change in app might help??

Coldandfrosty · 07/02/2019 11:19

Well done MsM

I use the one with Laura. I really like her she seems genuine! Grin

I did w5r2 today. 8 mins twice...amazing. I thought I was going to throw up and/or die in the 2nd 8 min one. But I didn't.

Not sure I'll manage the 20 min???

Coldandfrosty · 07/02/2019 11:20

vjg13 wow 28 min! Amazing!

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 07/02/2019 12:49

Hi all

Been away so I’m only just back on the running after a week off Shock. W4R1.

Well done on the clamshells coldandfrosty 👏 I’ve not done mine for a few days, catching up with this thread has reminded me.

Everyone is doing so well. Well done guys Wine

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 07/02/2019 15:26

i wasn't going to repeat W5R3 because obviously I am practically a runner now but I did, and I went much faster, and I am feeling irrationally smug

so W6 starts on saturday!

I am very intrigued by all this talk of clamshells, I am off to google.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 07/02/2019 20:06

Annoyingly, thanks to the data breach and general shonkyness of MN data security I’m going to have to de-reg. i’ll still be doing the c25k and i’ll miss this thread for the chat and support. Thanks all and good luck with the rest of the plan. Smile

dementedma · 07/02/2019 20:31

did W5R1 and it was ok. I have to keep switching voices on the app too - what's that about?

Fiddie · 07/02/2019 20:38

@Coldandfrosty I did that one today too, I found it quite hard and I'm not thinking about Saturday's run.

I was very slow, only covered just over 3kms

Coldandfrosty · 07/02/2019 20:44

don you will be missed. You're a fab support on here.

You could always make an email account on hotmail or something with the sole purpose of being on mn and then only post on non personal type stuff like this? Or is it also about not agreeing with them?

Whenever u do my clams I'll think of you! X

timetomoveon · 07/02/2019 22:27

I did w5r3!!!! Woohoooooooooo! I now feel like a running goddess.....well obviously not as I was super slow (I think my brisk walk might be faster than my run) but it’s done. It’s also stinking hot here this morning so the heat index was 31 when I went out so I look like this now Angry
I’ve stuck with Michael all the way through - he has such an encouraging voice and he genuinely believes in me Wink

vjg13 · 08/02/2019 10:25

Well done timetomoveon! It's a great feeling after. I'll be looking like Angrylater too as that is how I look at the end of all my runs now!
