Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

I'm polar opposite abra morning runs are my absolute favourite!

I want to run all of my half marathon Confused

Mine even though I did you're not meant to do the full 13.1 before race day because then there's nothing to aspire to if you get me. I just did it because I was worried that it's race day that stops me achieving it. Now I know I can do it so I'm more confident that this one won't be a disaster Wink

HRHPrincessMegan · 31/08/2017 19:21

I ended up not getting out yesterday but did do 6 miles today. Not my best to be honest. It started tipping down with rain about 1 mile in which continued for the next 20 minutes. Everything left like hard work and my sports bra started to rub - I now understand why people bang on about Vaseline....

As I got home the general discomfort of my wet leggings and clothes turned into a burning sensation. I stripped off to find that most of my torso, the tops of my legs and bum were bright red and I had raised white bumps everywhere - a bit like an allergic reaction. I showered immediately and took an antihistamine. This was about an hour ago and its starting to calm down.

I'm baffled as to what the cause could be. Initially I thought maybe it was my kit but it's just standard nylon/elastane and I've never reacted like this before. I'm in the SE - my DH suggested that it could be related to the toxic cloud that made all the beach goers in Sussex ill. Weird🤔

Abra1d · 31/08/2017 20:09

HRH that is weird. Hope you're better now.

minesapintofwine · 31/08/2017 21:13

hrh that is very odd I hope you feel better.

mammy I can see exactly what you mean about it giving you confidence to do the full amount. I definitely did a few 10km before my first 10k race but a half marathon is such a long way don't think I'll attempt the full amount until the day.

I've been really lazy this week Blush not given even a passing thought to running. Definitely going to kick myself and go out tomorrow.

HRHPrincessMegan · 01/09/2017 06:22

I'm feeling much better, thanks abra and mines. The first dose of antihistamine took care of most it and I took another before bed. It's clear this morning thankfully.

minesapintofwine · 01/09/2017 09:20

hrh glad to hear it!

Well nothing ever goes the way we plan does it 😂. Determined to get out for a run today but when I woke up I pulled the back of my neck Sad. It is a fair bit better now just slight twinges but not going to chance it today. Try again on Sunday...

I'm not even looking how long I've got but is anyone on here running the big h on Sunday? Or are the first ones the week after?

minesapintofwine · 01/09/2017 09:21

I looked. 4 weeks Sunday. That's OK I can cope with that.

HRHPrincessMegan · 01/09/2017 15:49

What a pain mines - literally I imagine!

I'm running on the 1st October too. I'm glad there's another 4 weeks as I seem to be slowing down. I went out for 5.5 miles today and it felt like I was plodding along - and it turns out I was because my times have slowed down a lot this week. I'll try a boot camp tomorrow to wake some different muscles and aim to get my long run in on Sunday.

RMC123 · 01/09/2017 21:46

Final big run done! Almost 11 miles. Loads of hills and not going to lie it was blooming hard.
Done all I can now. Time to taper before next Sunday. ShockSmile

minesapintofwine · 01/09/2017 21:52

RMC well bloody done!

BubbleAnimal · 01/09/2017 22:00

Well done RMC!!

RMC123 · 01/09/2017 22:12

Thanks Mine and Bubble. Hopefully this elevation will be enough to get me over those GNR hills. Back is aching!

Looks impressive! Those hills!

RMC123 · 01/09/2017 22:15

My running buddy chose the route! To be fair where we live hills are pretty hard to avoid but I did swear more that once.

wineusuallyhelps · 01/09/2017 22:54

Haven't posted for a while but I have been reading now and again!

Seems there are a few of us getting discouraged by runs not going to plan...I know the feeling. Think I said before that my 10 mile run never felt good, even though I kept to pace.

It all really messes with our heads, doesn't it?!

I have just over 2 weeks till my half. Am due to run 12 miles this coming Sunday as my last long run...after a day of a fair bit of drinking tomorrow...bad timing Confused

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 01/09/2017 23:20

This... time... tomorrow... gahhhhhhhh!!!
I picked up my race pack yesterday.
I set off in 22 hours.
Plan is to eat well today and get an early night.
Get up at 6 tomorrow to have time to have coffee (to cause pre-race poo!) And strap my knees.
Have bought poncy energy balls to eat in car on way there.

Purplerunner · 02/09/2017 07:47

Have been lurking on this thread but just came on to say Good Luck Pik Let us know how it goes!

RMC123 · 02/09/2017 08:06

Good luck Pika!

Rankellior · 02/09/2017 08:34

Good luck pika and well done on that run RMC

I have 6.5 miles due tomorrow but may try a bit longer as only did 4 midweek rather than 6.5. Will see how I feel. Had thought about going for a run today but had a few Wine last night and feeling tired.

How often do people replace trainers? Mine have done about 150 miles but are worn on the heel. They're fine but the arches of my feet are sore after running, not so I can't walk they just feel tender. I can't decide whether to buy new shoes (because I want shiny new trainers!) or whether to stop wasting money. I have sponsored links from running shops all over my browser which are teasing me with their new shoe loveliness

wineusuallyhelps · 02/09/2017 09:21

Rankellior I was just reading the magazine that came with my HM race number. Mo Farah says change them every 400 miles (which, for him, is every 3-4 weeks!!!).

But if it were me and my feet were sore, I'd get new ones.

HRHPrincessMegan · 02/09/2017 09:22

Good luck Pik!

Abra1d · 02/09/2017 09:27

Good luck Pika!
