Anyone up for a bit of half m support?

I'm registered to run my first half m in early September.

I'm struggling a bit with motivation tbh. I think I peaked too soon - could have done it 6 weeks ago. I've got time to get prepared though - it's 8 weeks away and I'm not starting from scratch. The most important thing for me is to keep up the strength work or my knees go kerboom.

Anyone else?

Hope it went well Pika

Rankellior I replace mine very 250 miles or so. I'm heavy footed and wear the outside edge out on one faster than the other, due to my slightly lopsided gait. Think most places (e.g. Runners World) recommend less frequently than that though. But I like getting new trainers 😁

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 15:41

I replaced my recent ones at 300 miles. Ones before were 250. I'm overweight and heavy footed though so literally break them.

mammymammyIRL · 02/09/2017 19:44

I'm tracking miles on my new runners & will see how I go, replaced last ones because their second time in washing machine didn't do them any favours and they weren't supportive any more.

If you wear asics they've a line down centre of the sole & it tells running shop what kind of runner you are. I checked my previous ones and they're not worn at all so I must not over or under pronate I guess

Purplerunner · 02/09/2017 20:06

mammy the washing machine 😮

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 20:19

I never even thought of putting my running shoes in the washing machine!

Purplerunner · 02/09/2017 20:35

You shouldn't, it wrecks them 😂

BubbleAnimal · 02/09/2017 20:35

I pay too much money for them to put them in the machine!

Pikachuwithyourmouthclosed · 03/09/2017 01:43

And I'm done!!

It was FINE!! Just like going for a run really, except there's more to look at and lots of people to watch.

No official time yet but we think I did about 2 hrs 5 mins. Happy with that Grin

I'm somewhere near the back in the pic - just setting off.

Now for lunch and a cold beer.

Congratulations! What an amazing time too.

Looks like it was a very scenic course.

Purplerunner · 03/09/2017 07:10

Well done Pik

mogglemoo · 03/09/2017 07:26

Pik

What a beautiful picture and a very fast time! You, indeed, did do 'good running'.

Now you can put your feet up (metaphorically) and impart all your wisdom to the rest of us.

RMC123 · 03/09/2017 08:01

Fantastic time Pik. Well done you!

minesapintofwine · 03/09/2017 09:02

Well done pik what a brilliant time! You deserve that beer Smile
What lovely scenery. I assumed you're not in the UK?

And....relax

mammymammyIRL · 03/09/2017 09:07

Well done pik what a fantastic time Star

HRHPrincessMegan · 03/09/2017 16:25

Made it out for my long run early this morning. I've decided that it's my favourite time to go out. I completed 10 miles which is my furthest distance so to-date.

For the most part it was fine but the last 1 mile was hard; my knees and ankles were sore and my calves were very tight. I've been disciplined with stretching and I've even been using the dreaded roller after each run. Not sure what else I can do - any suggestions?

I also realised today that I've somehow added an extra 1 mile to my weekly long run which means that I'll complete 12 miles 2 weeks before the HM rather than just the week before. In theory this means I could try 13 miles the week before or just do another 12 miles again - what would guys do?

Hoolit · 03/09/2017 16:47

pika well done and fantastic time.

I haven't done much in the way of running since my last long run of 11 miles last Sunday although I did a 23 mile yomp yesterday so classed that as strength training and will do a very short couple of miles maybe Tuesday and a possible swim before the big day next Sunday.
Just need to remember to eat right this week.
How's the prep going RMCand mog? Some canny hills there RMCSmile

Hoolit · 03/09/2017 16:48

Pressed to soon meant to add and anyone else doing the GNR on Sunday?

BubbleAnimal · 03/09/2017 16:49

Well done Pik, fantastic time and picture!

HRH personally? I would run the 12 miles and then taper for two weeks, with nothing more than 10ks. My own personal opinion, but if you've done 12 miles two weeks before, you won't need to repeat it.

RMC123 · 03/09/2017 17:10

Hoolit our run was 11 miles which is what we did before our last half and it worked well.
I was supposed to be walking across Morecambe bay yesterday but it was cancelled due to shifting sands(!) so we did some hill walking. Resting today. Will probably do a 10k tomorrow night and then 5k on Thursday.
Excited and terrified in equal measure !

Rankellior · 03/09/2017 19:06

Well done Pik that's a fantastic time, hope the beer was good - well deserved

Well my weekend has been a disaster run wise. Should have done a 10k but ended up having wine and late nights both Friday and Saturday, and this, combined with rubbish sleep all week has meant I'm just too knackered for anything.

Feel such an idiot for wasting a weekend being tired and grumpy when I could have been out in the nice weather. Oh and I've eaten my body weight in crisps and chocolate to combat the tiredness so now I feel very bloated and rubbish.

Onwards and upwards eh!

Abra1d · 03/09/2017 19:37

Pika 🎉🍾

mogglemoo · 04/09/2017 07:12

Hoolit

I did my last long run on Wednesday. 18k again, but it appears that's where my 'wall' is. A bit worried about the final 3k, but one step at a time.

Yesterday I did 10K, with another 10K tomorrow and 5k on Thursday. Then that's me. Making multiple lists to make sure I don't forget anything.

Saw the advert on the BBC for GNR and was surprised to feel panicked; it's not like I didn't know it was coming up!

The plan? I'm just going to enjoy.
