I hope you can find me! I went to post in the old thread but it had reached its limit.

Here's to an energetic, fit, healthy, and strong summer ahead.

My gym does a p90x class a week too! I've never tried it though and it seems a weird idea for a class given how specific each p90x DVD is I can't imagine how it's translate to a general class. The blurb on each class at my gym says something about it being hiit or high impact.

OP posts:
Theromanempire · 30/10/2016 16:48

roastie that is what I thought- bit like trying to convert a t25 workout or 21df workout - each one focuses on something specific so how do you make it generic?

yumyumpoppycat · 30/10/2016 23:29

P90x workouts does sound a bit weird, unless it is either 3 different classes a week or a total body workout. At the bodypump class I went to the instructor said 'what did we do last week - arms or legs' (wasnt that exactly but along those lines) and then worked the other body part, but seems a bit pointless to do that based on a once weekly class?

I need to get back to dvds this week, will prob only do 1 pilates class as promo offer has finished. Have gained a good few lbs so back to dieting I think too!

Grin @ pretending to turn the knob..some of my half turns may have been quarter turns ;) . I honestly felt stupid, my legs couldnt cope with all the standing up, but I was getting the hang of it by the end. I am kinda failing to get a grip and let go of spinning class trauma aren't I.

Purpleraindeer · 31/10/2016 09:23

At least a p90x class at gym wouldn't have Tony and his cheesy lines.

Poppy - I think you have post spin class ptsd Grin

It's my bday today and I celebrated with t25 lower focus first thing. Out for lunch later. Yum.

Theromanempire · 31/10/2016 10:47

Happy birthday purple - how is it having your birthday on halloween? I reckon it must be quite fun Smile

On lates this week so did plyo 21df this morning when I got up - love that one Smile have managed to ruin my good intentions by having a doughnut and peanuts for breakfast though BlushBlush to be fair, a friend who is having problems came round and I offered her one and then thought I needed to eat one in solidarity Wink

RoastieToastieReastie · 31/10/2016 13:34

Here's the blurb from my gym timetable about p90x class. It's the one that starts 'bodyweight...' and to me doesn't really sound that much like p90x. Yumy there's only one class a week at my gym. That's really interesting about your body pump instructor as I've only ever done the body pump DVDs where they do one track on each body part rather than a session more on legs or norenon arms. A whole hour with a barbell doing predominantly legs or arms sound a killer!

Purple happy birthday, good start to the day with t25.

Did gym step class this morning. Really enjoyed it and really sweated but it's not hard enough. I'm either going to have to hit the gym afterwards or stop it. Plus I get annoyed that it usually starts five minutes late, I want all the minutes I can squeeze out of my workout! But it is so fun. Ended out doing tf fire 45 yesterday which made me sweat. Getting a bit fed up of so much cardio though whilst I still await MRI results. My NHS scan came quicker than it did to wait for the highly expensive specialists interpretation and recommendations for my physio re treatment following the scan . I've chased it up with the fairly useless doctors secretary three times already. Who knew the NHS would be mor efficient and speedier on something than private!

Happy Birthday Purple Wine Flowers ha ha ptsd - exactly ;)

Theroman you did the decent thing with the donuts ;)

Roastie hope you get your results soon - love it that you are impatient to work harder unlike my good self who would prob take full advantage and do the fun but easier class!

yumyumpoppycat · 31/10/2016 21:08

Ps bodypump was killer I was a bit shaky by the end and my legs were achy for days.

Purpleraindeer · 01/11/2016 13:11

Have just read a book called the first 20mins. Is about debunking diet and exercise myths. Not a particularly good read so I don't particularly recommend but it had a few interesting bits in it:

  • stretching before a workout is bad for your results. And there's not really any point in stretching at all unless you like it. Apparently it makes very little difference to flexibility.
  • warm up/cool down - should be short most people do too much.
  • exercise on its own doesn't work to lose weight. Any cal deficit you create from the workout gets offset by you subconsciously being less active for the rest of the day!! That was a horrible realisation but I know it's true....
  • exercise is important to maintaining weight loss. Statistically you're more likely to keep weight off if you exercise. Even better HIIT training is an appetite suppressant.
  • lots of good evidence for exercise slowing down aging.
And this ends the book review!

Did a lovely 5m run today. Went off a bit fast and ended up running 4x sub 9min miles. Was a bit knackered at the end but it was such a lovely sunny day it was worth it! Smile

yumyumpoppycat · 01/11/2016 17:19

I like that book purple, it is quite good to see the whole spectrum of reasons to exercise beyond weightloss. Message doesn't seem to be getting through to me at moment though as feeling very enexercisey and cant break through it. off tomorrow so might do class and a dvd.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/11/2016 15:12

woohoo chalean done and pliates class done. Pilates was a bit different, more yogaey than the other classes I have tried, and included strange bouncing up and down to tribal music at the end!

Purpleraindeer · 02/11/2016 19:35

Tribal music poppy? That sounds more like yoga than Pilates. How odd.

Forgot the other thing I learned from that book - despite all fitness books going on about it there is no evidence that a strong core improves performance in sports. 6 packs/ab cracks are asthetic only

Did 21dfx the challenge today. Had to as was in a hotel and couldn't do anything with jumping. Ended up getting carpet burn on my arms from the moves on my elbows. Looks a bit dodgy. Grin. Decided I'll never do that workout again. It's sooooooo boring

RoastieToastieReastie · 02/11/2016 20:07

I do yoga every week and I've never done bouncing up and down or tribal music at my class!! Sounds very ^interest yumy!

I thought a strong core was the key to everything?

Purple well done for dedication of working out in a hotel and getting carpet burns.

Got class booked for the morning with DVD making instructor.

Theromanempire · 02/11/2016 20:54

Evening all Smile

purple love the dedication of working out in hotel rooms! I cannot imagine ever doing that Grin

Ooh controversial about not actually needing a strong core Shock was there evidence to support that argument?

Pilates 21df done this morning then went for a run this evening - first time in at least 6 months (probably much longer!) Managed a very slow 4k but it is a start. Still not sure I enjoy running but my friends have persuaded me to try again!

RoastieToastieReastie · 02/11/2016 20:59

Give running a shot thermo. I've never ever enjoyed running much but about 3 - 4 weeks into my enforced running due to injury I'm actually feeling sometimes like I'm desperate to go out for a run Shock . I just need to work on length and speed of the runs. I find I either am plagued by stitch so can't go very fast or I don't get stitch so I try to run faster and then I just feel really sick so slow down because of that Confused. Any advice welcome from runners.

And thermo in the plus side of a very slow time it means things will keep getting quicker :)

Hope boobz isn't too crazy hectic and is managing to sneak in some workouts.

Is anyone else curious as to what could have been posted on here that required deletion Grin

RoastieToastieReastie · 03/11/2016 11:34

Yes me too! Maybe trying to sell us something?

Did workout class today. Really enjoyed it but I feel like the exercise I'm doing ATM is more enjoyable than hard work, which obviously is fun but if I stick with the same things that aren't that difficult my results will be minuscule. To help begin to offset this I did 10 minutes on the treadmill after my workout class and hope that I will build up more gym time after my workout class. I suppose I should be glad I'm having so much fun working out ATM!

It was a fakely friendly post by someone doing research about exercising when pregnant or with v young children. I was going to redirect them but figured other people's children are prob still quite small so left it but the same post was in other threads so there must have been a blanket delete!

Purpleraindeer · 03/11/2016 16:28

Roman - well done on getting back out and running again. I was really off it for a while but now I'm back on it again I am finding I really enjoy getting the fresh air. Although it was a bit too fresh in the hammering rain this am. Had to get out for a run as have been eating a lot of lunch/dinner out and too much time indoors was making me feel a bit crazy. 30min run up and down ridiculous hills sorted that out!

No advice on the stitch roastie. I had the same problem but don't anymore and I did nothing so maybe it will fix itself? Glad you're enjoying the workouts but I know what you mean about fun not being 'hard' enough. I need to step it up a bit too - must do some harder cardio to get fit for my mountain thing.

Re the no need for strong core it was more that there was no evidence to say that a strong core improved performance. My core is looking distinctly wobbly at the moment. My emerging 6 pack seems to have retreated again!

Purpleraindeer · 03/11/2016 16:59

Oh roastie - just remembered the book I read said plyometric training is good for getting faster at running. So try that. Also lots of hills.

RoastieToastieReastie · 04/11/2016 20:58

< makes mental note about plyo> . I'm also wondering about trying the insanity asylum game day workout but I've never done it before. Has anyone done it I'm scared?

Rubbish few days upcoming. No workout today as dd home ill from work. Monday I have a funeral to go to so no workout able then either and Tuesday dh has just told me I need to do dd duties when he usually does and I do my workout as he's working, so that's potentially three workouts down in five days, which is rubbish :(

Purple well done for running up and down hills. I still have to often walk up the hills I have when I do s route with a hill.

Hope everyone is healthy and still pressing play.

yumyumpoppycat · 04/11/2016 23:44

Roastie Sad hope all goes well and you manage to fit in a few workouts.

RoastieToastieReastie · 06/11/2016 11:37

well, did a for me fast 5k yesterday followed by ten mins of davina abs then today did asylum game day minus the climbing drills (due to injury). Wow that was tiring! A lot of modifying going on but it was nice to find something very challenging for a change (plus made me realise how easy things have been for me). Going to try and do maybe a balance p90x3 tomorrow if I can squeeze it in with the funeral (not at the same time obv!) and may be able to fit in 20 minutes of swimming on Tuesday when dh is working extra time and I have dd so can't use my usual slot, figure that's better than nothing.

Hope you're all working hard this week end.

OP posts:
Purpleraindeer · 06/11/2016 19:44

Bloody hell - good effort roastie! That's a lot of workout! Glad you enjoyed game day. Reminds me that I liked that one too - it is looong tho isn't it?

Have had a good exercise weekend. Did a 5mile run with DH on sat. Was a bit of a treat as we never get to go together normally. I am def a lot faster than I used to be, but at the end of the run I asked DH to run at his normal pace and it nearly killed me to keep up

Then did max cardio conditioning today. I felt a lot less fit than when I last did it. Although that's prob not surprising given that I had 5 days off ill a week ago and have done no Shaun t for at least 3 weeks. Am dreading stepping on scales tomorrow am Shock
