It has taken me YEARS to get over the guilts, but my kids are teenagers now and don't need me as much.

DH was a SAHF for DS1's first 15 months, so I felt double guilt and overcompensated by falling into complete and utter martyrdom. I remember DH trying to send me out to a yoga class and me saying I couldn't leave my baby (even though - as DH pointed out - he was fast asleep and had no idea whether I was there or not Grin).

It is a lovely sunny day here so I will be going out in an hour or so for a longish run - I need another 7.5 miles to get to 100 miles this year, which will be a tenth of my goal (breaking it down into bite-sized chunks makes feel easier Smile).

PollyPooic · 08/02/2015 09:56

back to foam roller chat, I've got a medium density (the blue ones) at home and use the evil black spiky one in the gym aka The Beast

am not completely convinced of its benefits but it hasn't done any harm, except The Beast made me cry in the gym once

(calf has improved a lot already! but the creepy bruise is still there to show where whatever happened, happened)

Suzannewithaplan · 08/02/2015 10:04

?
Sounds good with the calf Polly, to what do you attribute the improvement?
I have a spiky concave rubber roller and a large blue foam one, but I don't use them as often as I might, I am religious about the yoga though, pigeon and downward dog etc?

PollyPooic · 08/02/2015 10:15

I reckon it's because I phoned the phsyio on Saturday morning in tears about the severity of my injury 'I can't walk! I can't drive!' and got an urgent appointment - either some dark magic or the humiliation factor of suddenly being able to walk

but it has been propped up since whenever, Friday lunch time, iced regularly and then I started using warm things instead, I only woke up twice in the night and I can already walk almost normally, it's about 3/10 on the pain scale from an initial 6/10 at rest and a quite searing 8 or so if I attempted to bear weight

haven't taken anti-inflammatories because am not meant to and someone the bruise would get worse, because muscle bleeding a bit yuck

lucky I am naturally quite lazy and quite happy to lie down and watch the whole of Fargo in one day

Suzannewithaplan · 08/02/2015 10:37

?Sounds as if the calf has improved just to thwart you, I have body parts like that, I try and use reverse psychology on them. ?

Neeko · 08/02/2015 10:37

So impressed by your run and your time, Agressivebunting.

Congratulations Kimmi

I hear you all on the guilt. I'm a teacher and my kids' childminder is a runner too so I've started trying to leave work soon after the kids leave and run before I pick my own kids up. My cm totally encourages me to do this which really helps with the guilt. Smile It means I always have loads of marking to do once the kids are in bed but I have that anyway and I'm more likely to do raft at 8.30pm than to head out in the dark and cold.

I have a really sore back this weekend so no running for me. Think it was that sneaky quick run on Thursday as I didn't make/have time to warm up or stretch. I've been doing a lot of gentle stretching this weekend and it's slowly easing off. Quite annoyed with myself.
Taking the kids swimming now so hopefully that will help and I'll be ok to run tomorrow.

Neeko · 08/02/2015 10:38

THAT, not raft Confused

orangeflutie · 08/02/2015 10:55

11.5 sunny windy miles from me. Was so tempted to stay in bed this morning but glad I went out now. Feel good apart from slightly grumbling back and tired legs. Think eating a few jelly babies on the way round helpedSmile

Hope your back gets better soon Neeko.

493.5

A lonely hill session for me this chilly but sunny morning.

Making way for my roast.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/02/2015 12:04

Just 8 from me since my last, had a dodgy tummy so 3 days off. Got back to it last night though, and am relieved it wasn't hard! So that's....

501.5

HalleLouja · 08/02/2015 12:38

511 miles with my run today. Nearly gave up but carried on.

LaughingM · 08/02/2015 13:03

Well done aggressive! Incredible achievement.

I did a 10k race yesterday morning. I was dithering over whether to do it or not as I had a party on friday night and lunch plans on saturday so it was going to be a massive rush... but despite only having about 4 hours sleep I got up and did it and knocked almost 4 mins off my last time!! Gobsmacked!

No LSR today as my hips are a bit achey. It's been ages since my sunday hasn't revolved around a run, so I'm off to spend a voucher at ikea instead. Bet I'll wish I was running...
517.2

Sazorchard31 · 08/02/2015 13:10

519.7 after adding my 2.5miles this morning. Good news that shins were fine, calf a bit tight but all good. Was def time for new trainers!!

karatekimmi · 08/02/2015 13:24

6.6 from me for today, 526.3 a foggy run to a the foot of a hill and a walk/run up it (more walk than run but it counts!!) my hair managed to freeze!! But a great view above the fog!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/02/2015 14:05

Grin at kimmi and the frozen hair. You have reminded me of the time DH's beard froze during a snowy HM - he couldn't move his face by the end of it Grin

Glad you are improving Polly

Hope the swim does your back good Neeko

Well done flutie, Thursday, EE, Halle, Laughing and Saz

10.5 from me, the first 10K was my second fastest since I gave myself this name almost 2 years ago. Miles 7-9 were slower because they were off-road and very muddy and slippery, but the whole thing was under 2 hours so I am very pleased (although could have done with some of flutie's jelly babies a couple of times).

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 08/02/2015 14:05

536.8

Suzannewithaplan · 08/02/2015 14:42

12 miles exactly from me
= 548.8

originalpiratematerial · 08/02/2015 15:35

6.6 lovely sunny miles from me so that's 555.4.

Wimped out of wearing the Asics shoes and just wore my old knackered Brooks Confused.

emummy · 08/02/2015 17:22

5 miles from me at 7:30 this morning and it was light, hurray! Beautiful morning. Then spent the next several hours at a cross country meet with the children. Dd2 came 8th again, v pleased, and ds came 6th! Was a 1 mile run and his first ever, took him 8:33, most impressed. He collapsed over the line and declared that he was never racing again! Good fun, and a gorgeous sunny day at Haddo House, really lovely setting.
560.4

postmanpatscat · 08/02/2015 18:03

Well done all weekend runners especially kimmi with frozen hair!

Naicecuppatea · 08/02/2015 18:12

And well done Aggressive! What an achievement.
