Morning everyone.

Who is parkrunning today? Are you fitting one in before your ultra, Aggressive , just for a wee warm up? Grin. It sounds amazing, have a great time and good luck. I'm seriously in awe.

Hi naice, I'm new too! only found this thread a few days ago.

Congratulations kimmi that is one lovely alien you have there Smile

Mitchy1nge · 07/02/2015 08:16

3.7 from me, last for probably AGES - it was worth a try but I have made the calf situation so much worse, will see physio at earliest possible opportunity next week

(when I say AGES I'm hopeful not more than a couple of weeks, or at least can start cross training soon)

436.13

Mitchy1nge · 07/02/2015 08:21

that is the best scan pic I have ever seen! congratulations kimmi! Grin

AggressiveBunting · 07/02/2015 08:33

Congrats Kimmi

Right.....drum roll........adding 28 to make 464.13

Got round in 5hrs 12 mins which put me 4th (missed the bloody podium by less than 2 mins, albeit it was a bit of a thin field as there was another race the same time). However, the time was beyond my wildest dreams so I am super happy. Didn't have any really awful bits- paced well and although it was tough, I managed to run all of it apart from the super steep uphills.

Feeling much more confident about the TransLantau 50k in March now.

Mitchy1nge · 07/02/2015 08:40

amazingly well done bunting! Flowers 'steep uphill bits' plus your finish time = awesome performance

how many entered/finished do you think?

EdithDickie · 07/02/2015 10:09

Wow!!! Well done Aggressive! Awesome!

Congratulations kimmi Smile

Thank you for the adding up and chafing tips. I think it was the label in my leggings which I had never noticed before so that's cut out. The seam there is now thicker than elsewhere so I will slap a load of vaseline on the area next time I wear them, or, as dh says "grease up my ass".

I can't decide whether to run this afternoon while dd is at a birthday party or have a nap. I am tired but also feel very "in the zone" and I won't get to run until Monday lunchtime otherwise. Hmmmm, I think I am talking myself into it!

AggressiveBunting · 07/02/2015 10:18

Mitchy It's a field of 3,000 but there are 3 distance categories (50,25,10). It's probably 1000,1500,500. Also this race is marketed as a hike- the cut off for the 50km is 15 hrs at the last checkpoint (so realistically 18 hrs). Therefore, whilst there are runners, the proportion isn't that high (lots of run-walk people), and there are always more men than women. I actually only remember overtaking one woman the whole time so I think the top 5/6 female runners pretty much held their positions from the start- winning time of 4hrs 35, then 5:05, 5:10, and then me. Get the full results next week (totally retro I know) so will overanalyse them then Grin

Sazorchard31 · 07/02/2015 10:19

Well done aggressive!!!

HesterShaw · 07/02/2015 10:20

A 28 mile race? Good god woman! Congratulations!

Congratulations on the alien kimmi Flowers

Just trying to decide whether to venture out today. Have had two days off so I should. But it's windy and I have a sore throat. On the other hand if I don't run when it's windy in Cornwall I am ruling out about 80% of days instantly. Um...

PollyPooic · 07/02/2015 10:39

(mitchy here in new guise)

that's amazing bunting, am genuinely pleased for you (although usually when I can't run I feel this awful bitter envy/almost hatred when I see others running Blush am not a nice person)

am planning a 50k on a very non-technical, flat and easy trail in the autumn, there will be 7 hours to complete it so could do a mixture of run/walk or just have a break at each lap - although as it currently takes me about 7 hours to go up or down my tiny flight of stairs that does seem a long way off

Suzannewithaplan · 07/02/2015 10:42

Well done Bunting! :o
Why are there so few women, women are good at ultra endurance
Were the men's finishing times much different?

Hester, all my runs are along the seafront, it's either windy, very windy or even more windy!
I find it quite good fun, especially with the wind behind me :o ?

familygermsareok · 07/02/2015 10:54

Wow Aggressive, that is amazing. And another one in March too! Fantastic!

Sorry to hear about your calf, Mitchy, hope it settles soon.

Another 5.7 from me this morning ( 3 parkrun miles plus there and back )
469.83

PollyPooic · 07/02/2015 11:03

thanks family

am going to comply completely and utterly with whatever the physio says this time 100%

suzanne, one main difference that I recall is the DNF rate between men and women - a higher relative proportion of men will fail to complete than women even if their times are still better in general, the gap gets smaller as the distance increases and the more extreme the distance the more likely a woman will win overall

women are still much newer to distance running than men, even the marathon distance, I think it's exciting how quickly they have caught up

AggressiveBunting · 07/02/2015 11:26

There is a female trail runner here who often wins overall, but that is more a case of "pro's vs. amateurs' than men vs. women. The men's times are still typically faster but the gaps aren't huge and there will typically be a woman in the top 5/10 places, depending on who shows up. The interesting thing is the ages of the winners. The women's winner today is 42 and the woman who came third was, I'd guess 45ish. The man who won the 25k was 55!! The kids are nowhere Grin

twobambinos · 07/02/2015 11:54

Congrats karate kimmi I thought it was a puppy but I'm on my crappy phone huge apologies. When I had my scans I rarely had a clue what they were showing me.

Edith would u believe I went to chemist for the tape yesterday after reading about it online and came away without it. The assistant said it would be too sticky to put on already sensitive skin? I may go back and just get it.

Dis my first parkrun today so a new pb for that ??

Omg aggressive well done. Pity about the podium esp when u were so close on time but my god what a super run by you.

twobambinos · 07/02/2015 11:58

469.83 plus 3.1 from me is 472 .93 no warm up cool down the bare 3.1 and boy god was it cold. I think I may need to get some running gloves and full length leggings.

Awe mitchy I hope the physio can sort you out.

Sorry to all who didn't get the royal parks (I'm in roi so I don't even know what that is but its a pity none of u got it) I have never entered a race that had a ballot.

Anglaise1 · 07/02/2015 13:21

Congrats on your trail Aggressive - fantastic time Flowers How any metres ascent were there? Older runners often do better at endurance races than younger ones, especially among the women. I don't know why more women don't do the endurance races either, I love them, much more interesting than road racing. But much more chance of a podium place as a result, sorry you just missed out, but you must be very chuffed with 4th place!

Anglaise1 · 07/02/2015 13:24

Mitchy I hope you manage to see a physio soon. I take it you aren't going to do your HM this weekend? I'm having a week of rest and I think it is doing some good. Hopefully back to marathon training on Tuesday. Am walking the dogs an awful lot instead!

PollyPooic · 07/02/2015 14:05

physio Monday morning, am glad to hear you're almost ready to resume training :)

PollyPooic · 07/02/2015 14:08

(I have another half next month, it's not the end of the world it is a bit, tomorrow is a lovely flat and fast course)

actiongirl1978 · 07/02/2015 14:24

Oh poor you Mitchy, we shall all tell you off if you try and run on it if the physio tells you not to. Slapped wrist etc. Can we still call you mitchy or would you prefer us to use your new name? Smile

Aggressive - that's absolutely amazing, well done! Do you mind me asking what your pace was? (could work it out I suppose, easier if you tell me Grin) I am just wondering, if I do a marathon do I have to try and run it at my 10km race pace which hurts my chest and makes me feel like giving up, or can I slip a minute of pace and still finish in a respectable time?!

TwoBambinos - I was recently an ROI runner, I wonder which corner of the country you are in Wink I was ALWAYS cold when I ran there, and usually damp.

Edith - My 10k 24hr relay is in June. Should I be training now for it do you think Shock I don't know if I can bear the thought of the training!

Suzannewithaplan · 07/02/2015 14:28

My guess is that (for various reasons) rates of participation in sport in general is lower in women?
but is it even lower in ultra races?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/02/2015 14:41

Well done Agressive fantastic work. In awe of you here.

Polly hope you bounce back quickly.

Just a little parkrun from me today so 476.03

For you new parkrunners on this thread - we also have a parkrun thread where we share our results, tourism tips and cake experiences. Come and say hello!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/02/2015 14:43

Oh and re older runners, I read somewhere once that the really successful elite marathon runners work up to the distance over years, running 10Ks in their youth, building up to HMs in their 20s and full ones in their late 20s/early 30s (as indeed Mo Farah seems to be doing).

Sazorchard31 · 07/02/2015 16:42

Just seen on fb that an old friend of mine did the same event aggressive, not sure where he came in though.
