Thanks for adding my mileage.

I vote for calves.
In summer I wear cropped trousers just below the knee and either a tank style top or t shirt. I don't yet have the legs for short shorts and can only dream of having the abs for a crop top. Still it means less sun cream. Smile

Anglaise1 · 05/02/2015 18:53

Shorts even in winter for races. Otherwise just below the knees unless it is 0°C.
Just found out what my fab physio did to me last night with the hammer drill thingy to help my tendonitis. It was extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) in English. Very painful but very very effective.

5madthings · 05/02/2015 20:39

311.65 plus my 5.1

I always wear 3/4 length tights, in the summer I jist wear bra an vest.top. At the moment it's a vest plus top top. Plus jacket and buff, I get hot though and.rather sweaty.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/02/2015 21:31

2.5 sunny London miles at lunchtime.

Are we 311.65 + 5mad's 5.1 and my 2.5 = 319.25?

Sazorchard31 · 05/02/2015 21:35

Well I did a tiny bit of jogging at boxing today and the new trainers felt AMAZING!!!! Cannot believe how little cushioning there obviously was left in my old pair. Leg/shin hurt slightly but not as much as it did on a 0.5 run on Tuesday so think new footwear help. Will.still keep off the running for the week though. Boot camp. And abs tire so least I get to wear my new trainers again ....that's if I can move in the morning after my first attempt at boxing today.

Joining in the clothing chat, I prefer to run in knee length tights or shorts and a vest or baggy running top. I get hot running so wear as little as I can. Winter just involves a long sleeved top and full length tights plus gloves and hat. I hate getting overheated, completely puts me off

Sazorchard31 · 05/02/2015 21:37

Edith that sounds about right about shortening when in.heels. also places the pressure elsewhere. Fortunately I sit at a desk all day so I cAn wear heels.

beanandspud · 05/02/2015 22:43

Adding 3.1 miles here. Back on the treadmill as DH is away and no way to get out.

322.35

feetheart · 05/02/2015 23:12

Very interested in all the running talk though not much time to post at the moment - work very busy (thanks DH Hmm) plus setting up local parkrun has got to the 'risk assessment and form-filling' stage!

5 miles from me on Monday and 2.5 from tonights speed work session so 329.85

AggressiveBunting · 06/02/2015 04:18

Yup- wearing heels a lot is bad for runners as it makes your calf muscles short and tight. If you do wear them make sure you stretch them really thoroughly.

A tapering 2 miles from me this morning makes 331.85

Got all my kit ready for the race tomorrow- quite excited and nervous now.

Re clothing: I tend to wear shorts all year round but we don't really get a winter here- coldest it ever got was 7 degrees- today is 12 degrees. For racing I sometimes wear compression shorts underneath, and recently started wearing compression socks for races and longer runs. On top I wear my trusty Shock Absorber (used to wear Ennell but I lost a cup size with each child so sadly not required now) and a fitted vest. I wear a Saloman hydration vest over the top (fits like a stretchy waistcoat and holds a bladder bag plus phone, money, gels etc) so you need to wear something fitted underneath or it would just all bunch up. I also find that in summer when it's really hot here (36-40 degrees, 95% humidity) that less is better as even allegedly performance fabrics hold sweat. I wore a gap vest once and it was down to my knees by the time I finished, it was holding so much water.

postmanpatscat · 06/02/2015 06:38

337.85 with my 6 miles from yesterday.

Royal Parks ballot results today!

Anglaise1 · 06/02/2015 06:45

Good luk with your trail run tomorrow Aggressive B. 12°C sounds and ideal temperature. It must be much more difficult in the summer with 95% humidity Shock. What food do you take on your trail races to re-fuel?

cinnamongreyhound · 06/02/2015 07:25

I've lost track with all your serious running chat! Almost ran on my own yesterday afternoon as I was getting itchy feet but I knew I had a running buddy this morning so thought it best not too.

4 VERY frosty miles from me and the doggies this morning. Beautifully sparkly and got light towards the end, yay!!!! 341.85. Will try to get time to read back properly this afternoon :)

AggressiveBunting · 06/02/2015 08:08

There are 4 checkpoints with bananas so I'll have a banana at each to stop hunger pangs and I'm also trialling some Hammer Perpetuem Solids- they are a bit like malt tablets in texture - kind of chewy-chalky- and much less sweet than gels. Apparently they're great. I'll probably also have a bit of isotonic drink. Then at the end I'll have a recovery whey shake mixed with almond milk and probably a couple of beers Grin

HalleLouja · 06/02/2015 09:53

5.2 miles with run club last night makes 347.05.

familygermsareok · 06/02/2015 11:19

Just back from lovely run, sunny with blue sky but air crisp and cold, just the way I like it!
10.7 so that makes it 357.75

Is it an ultra you are doing Aggressive? Good luck for tomorrow.

Do you find the compression socks help?
I tried them but find my legs get more tired at the end of a longer run ( that is about 12 miles for me ) than without them, and I get very hot. I was just on the size difference between two sizes and the shop recommended getting smaller one, I am wondering if they are actually too tight.
They do seem to help my chronic Achilles problem though.

emummy · 06/02/2015 11:25

Have emerged from horrible head cold (spent most of Wednesday in bed! Alone, sadly) and had nice run in the woods in the sun today. Breathing was fine, legs felt like lumps of concrete but I made it!
3.1 from me so 360.85
Best of luck tomorrow AgressiveBunting hope you have a good time

AggressiveBunting · 06/02/2015 11:44

Thanks guys- the race is advertised as a 50k but actually, it measures short at 44k so just squeaks into the ultra category (the 50k is according to the government's trail markers which were done decades ago to be fair- they probably did it with one of those clicky wheel things). It's a mixed trail and traffic free tarmac (catch waters, reservoir service roads etc).

If nothing else, at least I'll have lots of miles to add to our total :-)

Neeko · 06/02/2015 13:25

Wow Agressive! That's some distance. Good luck Smile

originalpiratematerial · 06/02/2015 13:46

Good luck, Aggressive!

I did run to work yesterday, 4.55 miles, did a pretty full-on gym session at lunchtime (lots of squats and lunges with kettlebells and weights) but oddly felt fine this morning so have just done another 3.33 miles. So that is 7.88 miles. Added to 360.85 makes, er, 368,73. I think.

originalpiratematerial · 06/02/2015 13:49

I have just worn my new ASICS running shoes (have previously only ever had Brooks). Jury still out Confused. I've never had a sock problem before (always wear Balega ones) but my right sock seemed to get crumpled just under the ball of my foot. Oh well.

beanandspud · 06/02/2015 13:57

Good luck Aggressive - hope it goes well! Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 06/02/2015 14:12

Sazorchard31 are you sure it's not just soreness from running in flats and working in heels? My mum used to get sore shins at weekends as she spent all week in heels and it's a very different movement.

Yes actiongirl1978, I'm glad I have company! This morning when my alarm when off at 5.30 and the car thermometer said -4C I wondered what I was doing but had someone to meet so no choice! The dark impacts me too though. The cold bothers me more during the week as I'm in and out a lot during the day and by the evening I'm sick of being cold!!! I agree about the lack of nettles though :)

Good luck AggressiveBunting! Sounds like you have your nutrition all sorted.

My legs have a lot of spare skin from my 5 1/2st weight loss 2 and a bit years ago and so I rarely wear shorts as I'm too self conscious. I wear vests in summer, t-shirts spring and autumn long sleeves in winter. Love my parkrun fleece top for below freezing temps.

feetheart · 06/02/2015 14:51

No Royal Parks half place for me this year :( Did anyone else get in?
Still, there is always the GNR ballot next week :)

Suzannewithaplan · 06/02/2015 15:28

12.99 from me = 381.72

Suzannewithaplan · 06/02/2015 15:32

I am far too paranoid about ankle twisting to wear heels

infact I am the quintessential ms boring sensible shoes Blush
