OhOne you're very inspiring! That's a lot to achieve!

Lovely weather here in East Lunnon again. I had a lovely seven mile run, that's the furthest I've managed in ages.

2019

HalleLouja · 25/01/2015 13:07

8.3 hard earned miles here. That was hard work. Makes 2020.3.

TiredEmma fingers crossed the running plans come off.

HalleLouja · 25/01/2015 13:08

Cross post its 2027.3

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 13:23

I miscalculated my route and did 10 instead of 8. The last two were not very nice, because in my head I was doing 8 (and had pushed myself quite hard), but I was 2 miles from home with not much left in the tank so had no choice but to keep going Smile. Luckily DH put our lunch on, so I have a roast chicken to reward me for my efforts.

Thank you pirate

2037.3

orangeflutie · 25/01/2015 13:37

8.4 miles from me today. Lovely and frosty morning. Loving my new trainers. Interesting to read trainer chat. I'm afraid I'm a bit boring as buy the same Brooks Men's Adrenaline every time.

However I am considering getting some trail shoes sometime soon.

Not so good news I have a sore throatHmm which I'm trying to ignore. Really don't want a cold.

lots of other runners out today, I think the sunday long run is a popular tradition :)

Hope your throat gets back to normal asap Flutie!

Suzannewithaplan · 25/01/2015 15:10

I'm also a bit conservative when it comes to running shoes, I'll probably get another pair of brooks glycerine when mine need replacing.

I'm very interested in a developments in running acoutrements...just dont want to make an expensive mistake.

On the subject of replacing running shoes, a question for the experienced runners on here if you could enlighten me.
Do you tend to wait the recommended 500 miles or can you just tell when the shoes have had it?
(I've only been running for a couple of months so not had to replace any shoes yet)

standingonlego · 25/01/2015 15:19

Wow, we are over 2000 miles ShockGrin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 15:42

Suzanne I think the recommendation is 300-500 miles, depending on heavy your tread is Smile. I tend to go by feel, and by checking the tread on the bottom. I usually have 2 pairs on the go at the same time (same shoes) - one cleanish, which I use to run during the week as that is always on roads, and one muddy for my long run, which can get muddy depending on the route I take, and parkrun tourism if I'm going to one of the off-road ones within striking distance.

Which reminds me, I don't think I added my parkrun yesterday - will check back and add if I didn't.

Suzannewithaplan · 25/01/2015 15:46

I'm thinking that recommendation would be based on an average sized man of say 12 stone or so, does that mean that a lighter person could extend the mileage pro rata?
or does it really not work like thatConfused

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 15:47

postman also forgot to say I asked DH about blood in his urine - he used to live in the Gulf and played a lot of sport when he was there (20 years ago), so has experience of intense exercise in that climate. It hasn't ever happened to him (he is a regular runner and cyclist now, but is not exercising as intensely as in the past), and he didn't know of it happening to any of his mates (but said it wasn't the kind of thing they'd have talked about over a pint after rugby as a bunch of 20-somethings). I hope your DH is OK and gets some answers quickly. I'm sure I remember a thread on MN at one point about someone's DH, and it turned out to be quite common.

New total including my parkrun = 2059.93

originalpiratematerial · 25/01/2015 15:47

I've worn out three pairs of Brooks by actually wearing a hole in them, iyswim - not in the sole, but on rh side of the right shoe.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 15:48

I don't know Suzanne - makes sense though Smile

originalpiratematerial · 25/01/2015 15:48

orangeflutie I've had Brooks Adrenalin for ages now, but am wondering whether to branch out [think]. I'm told ASics do some that are good for a mild over-pronator (which is me).

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 15:49

I'm not sure you're supposed to leave it THAT long pirate Grin (though I have come close to doing the same with my all-time favourites Smile

HesterShaw · 25/01/2015 15:54

I just bought some new ones. I really tried the patience of the poor sales boy with the acne. Bless him.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 16:07

What did you get Hester?

clary · 25/01/2015 16:17

I did a perky 4.4 miles this morning which really set my day up well. Saw a lot more runners out than normal (I normally run in the dark!!) so we are at 2064.33

HesterShaw · 25/01/2015 16:17

I live in a one horse town and am the offspring of people who thought that spending money on ANYTHING was terribly decadent.

I bought them because they were reduced from £80 to £24.99 and blue is my favourite colour basically. Plus I felt sorry for Acne Boy.

Lucy2610 · 25/01/2015 16:42

Afternoon all I was lurking on the DJ thread where someone mentioned here so thought I would pop over and say hello :) Been running for 5 years - went from couch potato in 2010 to running the London Marathon in 2011. Now happily run three 5k's a week for fitness and endorphin buzz mainly. Ran 5K yesterday if you want to add it to your miles Grin

sassytheFIRST · 25/01/2015 16:49

Ran for the first time since early dec today - feeble distance (2mi) but quick and hard running uphill. Was tough, but hoping to pick it back up properly now.

ThursdayLast · 25/01/2015 17:23

Evening all. Adding on my arduous 5 miles 2069.3

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2015 17:54

Nice Hester Smile

Evening Lucy we will take the miles thanks you - do come back again Smile

Well done on getting back to running and HILLS sassy

Hello Thursday.

Adding sassy's 2 and Lucy's 3.1 to make 2074.4 Smile

2500 by the end of the month?

Anglaise1 · 25/01/2015 17:55

Suzanne I have more than one pair of shoes on the go at any one time. A pair of trail shoes and two pairs of road shoes - I don't wait for 500 miles to get another pair, I have one pair I train a lot in and another newer one for races. I run around 40 miles a week and certainly don't change them after 12 weeks it would cost a fortune. I don't like wearing the same shoes all the time and when it is wet and muddy it is handy to have a second pair ready.
