I think it's under 18 isn't it blatherskite or certainly used to be as we've had older teenagers getting them. Good luck with your RD you'll be fab! I'm going to train a newbie in a few weeks :)

MelanieCheeks · 02/07/2014 23:06

Any norn irn MN park runners want to do Ecos with me this Saturday? DH has motorbike business in the area on Saturday so hopefully he'll be able to take some action shots of me for my blog.

And then, we have ANOTzhER group of intrepid runners doing all 18 NI venues in one weekend! Will join them at my home run on Sinday afternoon. Follow their adventures on twitter #18parkruns

Blatherskite · 03/07/2014 09:26

I checked - 17 or under. I thought they'd changed it to be lower though!?

MelanieCheeks · 03/07/2014 12:14

Now, I know NornIrn is a small place, and we all know each other......

DH was just talking to the motorbike bloke he's seeing on Saturday. It only turns out that he's one of the Ecos parkrun organisers! So he's arranged to meet me there beforehand, introduce me etc. I'd better make sure I run nicely Wink

originalpiratematerial · 03/07/2014 22:31

Ah, seven degrees of separation, MelanieCheeks, or perhaps even fewer in N. Ireland!

Still really hoping to do Derry parkrun in August!

originalpiratematerial · 03/07/2014 22:32

And I'm hoping to get out to my own local parkrun this Saturday Smile.

originalpiratematerial · 04/07/2014 15:09

Gah, no parkrun for me, or anything else for that matter - I've done something to my left hip and it's very sore Sad.

I am wondering if it might be bursitis?

standingonlego · 04/07/2014 18:57

Getting my excuses in early....parkrun performance tomorrow may be slightly hampered by scheduled night of gin drinking with the school mums Grin. My aim is simple tomorrow, to get there and get round - no PB this week Wink

LollipopViolet · 04/07/2014 19:08

I am hoping my stomach stops doing its best impression of being in a vice (period pain) by tomorrow and lets me run.

My cold has nearly gone - yay! I'm hoping to get round in 45 something again, and it not nearly kill me!

But, this is a daft question - I've never run while on my period before, and I use sanitary pads rather than tampons/mooncup. Is there a risk the pad might shift?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/07/2014 19:46

I am going with DS2 tomorrow - have bribed him with cake afterwards Grin

pirate - feel better soon Sad. Best to rest.

lego - hope you survive tomorrow Grin

Lollipop - hope you feel up to running tomorrow. You should be fine with a pad

I use a mooncup and a panty liner and usually get a bit of friction (can be sore over longer distances) LollipopViolet but always stays put. Will definitely help with the cramps though so go!

Have fun with ds2 OhOneOhTwoOhThree!

Looking like another wet one here tomorrow :(

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/07/2014 22:40

I think it might be wet here too cinnamon. Never mind, we have been lucky with the weather most weeksSmile

DS's barcode is one million and something! I thought I was in the high numbers at around 250,000Grin

It rained all night and earlier this morning but it has stopped now Grin

originalpiratematerial · 05/07/2014 08:38

Have a good one today, all parkrunners!

standingonlego · 05/07/2014 10:04

Rained all morning but stopped just before 9 - parkrun weather fairies at work :)

Had a nice run, 2 friends ran for first time and I was surprising ok considering the amount of gin I had in preparation...Grin

Hope everyone else stayed dry and enjoyed their runs!

mariomadmum · 05/07/2014 10:39

I failed miserably today and I am so annoyed at myself! I got around 3/4 of the way and got it in my head that I couldnt do it Sad so I went home, didnt even finish. totally kicking myself!

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2014 11:01

I had a lovely parkrun with big doggy but he was very slow second lap so we did 28:06. Plus I slowed up a bit to let our 7yo little man beat me as I could hear his dad shouting come on you can beat Cinnamongreyhound, most upset he didn't beat my doggy though!

Beforehand made me Angry but I won't bore you, just that some don't take their rd responsibilities as seriously as me so I had to do emergency set up :(

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/07/2014 11:20

Well done lego and cinnamon. There's always next week mario.

Waiting for our times. DS2 enjoyed himself (apart from having to get up early Grin).

MelanieCheeks · 05/07/2014 12:47

Oh Mario! It really is a mental game, isn't it.

The sun shone for us at Ecos. I was aiming to get a sub 30 after last week, but MapMyRun wouldnt work so I had no idea of my pace, and crosssed the line in 31 something. Ah well, I made it round safely, and that's enough for now.

My 47th run, though!

Drinkingpimmsinmygarden · 05/07/2014 18:23

Did my second Parkrun today - 28.05
Pretty pleased seeing as I only started running again 3 weeks ago!

I did 26.58 on my mid week training run though so hoping to continue to improve my Parkrun time.

LollipopViolet · 05/07/2014 19:24

Today was a "just get round" run, what with time of the month, and new running shoes. Did 46.07 again, so happy with that.

Couch to 5k though, I'm ditching. I used one of the podcasts today and it just felt wrong, I prefer to do shorter run intervals, but more of them, and try and gradually make the recovery bits shorter/run longer.

I did run more, but I was slower, so I'll stick to my method! Grin I made a friend though, and went to a writing group she suggested. Was great fun :)

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2014 19:28

That's a real shame madmariomum, you should have walked and run the last 200m you'd have had lots of support I'm sure!

Well done Drinkingpimmsinmygarden!!

So close MelanieCheeks, 42 for me today :)

Sounds good LollipopViolet, I guess there always has to be some people that these plans don't work for. If you're happy and making improvements then carry on doing what you're doing!

elspethmcgillicuddy · 05/07/2014 21:00

I did my first ever Parkrun today! I started running about 8w ago and must admit I an already hooked. I've been training for race for life in July plus a 10k in late sep.

I decided to give Parkrun a go today. It was the first time I have EVER run in a race with other people. I used to be made to do cross country at school but I never finished the race because I was so overweight and unfit I used to fake asthma attacks Sad (I don't have asthma)

Anyway, cut to now. I lost a lot of weight a few years back and have kept it off (except pregnancies but I've lost the baby weight twice). I finally did a 5k race and did it in 27.32!

I am beyond ecstatic! I loved Parkrun (although I hated it at the time- is that normal?)

I have become a bit obsessed with running and have been a long term avid lurker on the runner's thread. I read it while in the bath after every run Blush. Maybe it's time I pop over to say hello?

Ps thanks for the inspiration. Has helped a lot.

MelanieCheeks · 05/07/2014 21:17

I'm working my way around oll of the NI parkrnuns. This mornings, at ecos was my 7th out of 18.

karatekimmi · 07/07/2014 07:46

Wow Elspeth that's really good!! come over and say hello on the runners thread, we don't bite Grin

I did the parkrun with my Dsis and she ran the whole thing for the first time, instead of the walk/run we normally do!

Trying out the colwick park one in Nottingham next week, haven't been there before!
