Thank you ohone and cinnamon. Yes, the knee support helped a lot, particularly down hill. I don't know if I was close to a PB, but I know it's the best I've ever run on such a hot day, so am quite pleased. Still nowhere near 35 mins though, I'm going to have a party when that day comes!

It's my 9th run, and I am a geriatric 45 year old. I am hoping to run a marathon next year ( very slowly) and I find the park run community are incredibly friendly and supportive towards each other.

standingonlego · 21/06/2014 12:59

Hello runningwiththetailender delighted the knee support is doing the trick. Agree about the community, really welcoming. If all RD are as lovely as cinnamon and blathers then it makes a big difference :)

I was 30.05 today, that sub 30 min form is still eluding me. But a big brave thing this morning...inspired by all the kit talk I ran in my shorts! Had them about 9 years and this was their first outing Blush.

DP decided to join me today as it was so lovely. The plan was for me to run with the dog and DP took walk around with DS in the pushchair. Perfect.
Apart from we pulled into the car park at exactly 9am. I had to run to the start line...they were still there yay! I slow down, catching my breath as I approach the group of runners...somebody yells GO!
FFS! So I'd say I did slightly more than 5k today!

So while it was lovely to have them waiting for me at the finish line, I think I prefer just being in charge of my own journey Grin

It was a morning full of Awesome for us - the Strathclyde runners arrived just after 8 looking fresh and well, many of the girls sporting tartan skirts. A quick photo before they set off, and as they passed us, we gazed open-mouthed at the pack of red and black 50 and 100 Tshirts making its way around our course.....

The Haribos were popular, but they couldn't hang around as they were aiming to catch the Craigavon start at 9.30.

At our own parkrun, the current course record holder was in attendance (he lives and works elsewhere, so only runs this one occasionally). And he set a new coruse record, was almost literally a mile ahead of the competition.

LollipopViolet · 21/06/2014 14:57

It was a great run this morning, I got a PB: 46.07, taking 30 seconds off last week's time.

Would've been 45-something if I'd a) not taken a wrong turn, before being corrected Grin and b) the Canada geese that we share the park with hadn't decided to take over the path just as I approached. Much umm-ing and ahh-ing before I managed to weave my way through them, and the pigeons.

Got some great advice from one of the veteran runners, and generally had a great time.

I want sub 46 minutes next week! Only problem is, my right hip is being annoying, it feels like I've tweaked something :(

Showmethesunshine · 21/06/2014 15:09

Hello I did my first Parkrun today - 28 mins. BUT I took a wrong turn on lap 1 and missed out a tiny section, so it's probably more like 29/30 mins really Blush

Pretty pleased although it was pretty painful and I felt sick afterwards! Think I had breakfast too close to the run! DP did 21 mins!

woundbobbin · 21/06/2014 16:16

Well done everyone great PB lollipop! I did 26.59 just under 27 but good enough for me another PB hooray!

Showmethesunshine · 21/06/2014 17:23

Ps what Should I eat before Parkrun? Today I had bowl of fruit and fibre and glass of juice an hour behalf and felt really sick during the run. Sorry for the novice question but today was my first Parkrun!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/06/2014 17:50

Some great running and PBs today - well done everyone! I really enjoyed volunteering and seeing everyone come in. We had some MK runners, who were amazed at how quickly our queue went down (we have a lot fewer runners!).

And then I went and ran 8.1 cross country at midday. Utter madness, the course was really tough and narrow and overgrown in places. It was out and back, so we slower runners had to step aside for the quick ones on their way back in. But people were really encouraging, lots of people thanked us for stepping aside and told us we were doing really well even though they were twice our speed Grin.

sounds like some lovely runs today!!

Thursday I hate it when my DH comes along as he faffs and farts about and we end up late r than i'd like to be

Today mini kimmi and I ran to the park first, and then, I thought, meandered and pootled and generally had a lovely time chatting and daydreaming, but I managed to do it in 32.57!! I was very pleased with that time, pretty quick for me with the pushchair!!

cinnamongreyhound · 21/06/2014 18:44

Well done OhOneOhTwoOhThree, woundbobbin and LollipopViolet.

Thanks standingonlego, that's really kind!

I don't eat before a parkrun showmethesunshine, just a big glass of water :)

I was well out with my time! Was actually 27:31, so a min 23s slower than my pb but not bad with a cold and poo stop.

cinnamongreyhound · 21/06/2014 18:46

Well done karatekimmi, x posts.

ThursdayLast · 21/06/2014 19:03

Arf at poo stop.
Presuming the dog??

cinnamongreyhound · 21/06/2014 19:05

Yes ThursdayLast!! I can't ever see me stopping in the forest for that but I certainly wouldn't post online if I did get caught short Wink

ThursdayLast · 21/06/2014 19:07

And well done kimmi and mini kimmi! sounds v successful.

I also don't eat before showme, I make sure I'm super hydrated throughout Friday night.
(Quite often, if I ran fast enough, I pick up a maccy d's breakfast on the way home Blush)
(Especially if I drank too much on the Friday WineBlush)

ThursdayLast · 21/06/2014 19:08

Hahahaha, a poo report!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 21/06/2014 20:37

I can't run on an empty stomach

I like to have a couple of slices of toast and marmalade, or some porridge. I also have a coffee and a berocca.

If it's a long run I might have a bagel for breakfast and a banana before I start.

When I was running a lot last year (marathon training) I couldn't cope with anything high fibre before running. And that's all I have to say on the subject, except that I know where every public loo is on all my regular running routes Grin

Thanks for the poo report!

sunflowerblue · 22/06/2014 15:59

I'm sooo happy I found this thread!

I did my first parkrun yesterday, and I'm hooked already! I got a time of 35.05 which is loads better than I expected, I only started running 2 weeks ago.

originalpiratematerial I have a son with autism. I had planned only to run alternate saturdays when the dcs are at their dad's, but having read this thread I'm determined to try and get ds doing it. Dd would LOVE it anyway, so it's just a case of persuading ds. Let me know how you get on if you take your ds to a parkrun.

MelanieCheeks · 22/06/2014 17:10

Some photos an' stuff of the strathclyde crew

They got round all 18, I believe they even scored some placings at their official parkrun. And they were truly lovely, friendly guys and gals. Awesome doesn't begin to describe them, and the old "you don't have to be mad to be a runner but it helps!"

cinnamongreyhound · 22/06/2014 20:38

Anyone know Claire Hallissey?

Blatherskite · 23/06/2014 09:35

She ran at MK parkrun the weekend before last cinnamon. Her Niece goes to DD's pre school too.

Blatherskite · 23/06/2014 09:36

I should also add that when she ran at parkrun, she got the fastest female finishing time in 2 years! She's not beaten the record but she was closer than anyone has been in a long time!
