I think anything will be welcome MelanieCheeks, I'm a jelly bean fan myself but I know lots of runners who are sick of them!! I enjoy volunteering too but also have that 50 t-shirt in my sights Wink we are trying for a baby so can see me standing around 9 months pregnant cheering everyone else on! Glad you're recovering well and are at peace with it. We've lost one of our RD's as injury has meant he can't run anymore and can bear to be around runners when he can't run so doesn't come to parkrun at all!

KristinaM · 18/06/2014 08:00

Good to see your list of running objectives Melanie :-)

standingonlego · 18/06/2014 20:59

Posting on here and on the other running thread for ideas.

We have a huge Anthony Nolan campaign here in Northampton for a little boy desperately needing a stem cell match.

www.anthonynolan.org/news/2014/06/12/joeys-mum-blown-away-record-breaking-support

Last week they did a tie up with the Northampton R4L which was an incredible success. Given that the ideal target group is healthy people, men especially, between 16-30 I think there is a great fit with parkrun and other running events.

blathers I have approached the northampton pr team and sent an e-mail to the central parkrun team but is this something that could work at MK parkrun one morning?

Everyone else....do you think this could work at other big running events?

standingonlego · 18/06/2014 21:00

I am in the process of finding out what is involved in setting up a registration event :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/06/2014 21:29

This is probably a bit off the wall, but my first thought was something like freshers' week at universities, which then got me thinking about university open days (because we are taking DS1 to a couple over the summer) - there would be a good concentration of the target age group?

OhOne that is a great idea :)

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 21:56

MelanieCheeks I'm hoping to do the Derry parkrun when i'm over in August Smile

MelanieCheeks · 18/06/2014 22:22

Brilliant original, I can try to meet you for that!

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 22:41

That would be ace! I notice the Derry one starts at 9.30 not 9.00 - is that because people come in from a long way around? We'd be coming from Donegal so the later start would suit me!

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 22:42

I am very slow though so you'd have to promise to not laugh! I love that route though, across the Peace Bridge - I have a lovely photo of my three boys on it, from a couple of summers ago.

I was actually born in Derry, although we lived across the border [overshares]

MelanieCheeks · 18/06/2014 23:27

Ha, i was born there too! Agree, the peace bridge is amazing, gives a beautiful perspective on the city. Most norn irn ones are 9.30 starts, i think.

Blatherskite · 19/06/2014 10:06

lego, I'm sure we could do something at MK. If you email [email protected], I'll send the ED a heads up too. We did a big event for the Food Bank a little while ago so I know it's not something he wouldn't consider.

It's definitely a good way to find lots of fit and healthy people. Agree with OhOne's suggestion of University, or even College open days and freshers weeks too.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2014 17:24

I am volunteering tomorrow, because I am running this event this weekend, if my assorted injuries let me Grin. Just off to the first (5 miler) Smile

I'm volunteering tomorrow, because I am running this event on Sunday. I may have assorted injuries by the time I'm finished! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 19:11

I'm running and rd again next week as I'm running next Friday.

You two have found some interesting races Wink

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2014 20:48

That looks fun Blathers!

OP posts:
LollipopViolet · 20/06/2014 21:56

So, tomorrow, do I run a teeny bit more than I did last week to boost my PB, or just run faster in the few running bits I did?

I'm thinking option 1, but not sure.

I want to do Run or Dye, looks amazing! Anyone here done it before?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2014 22:02

Lollipop - I would run for slightly longer if poss.

My DSIL is doing Run or Dye Smile

OP posts:
LollipopViolet · 20/06/2014 22:15

I can definitely do running for longer - as long as I don't do what I did last time and go mad at the start because I was accidentally near the front and it felt like it was "run or be run over!!!!"

Not making THAT error again Grin

standingonlego · 20/06/2014 22:22

Looking forward to parkrun tomorrow - been a LONG 7 days...
Lollipop agree with OhOne, just run for a bit longer where you can.

Exciting running adventures with Dye and Potatoes !

Look forward to all the running reports tomorrow :)

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2014 22:39

Definitely run for longer, once you're running the whole thing then you can work on running pace :)

runningwiththetailender · 20/06/2014 22:41

Just seen this thread mentioned in another thread, and came along to say hello. Old, slow, park runner here, but have a nice new knee support for tomorrow!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/06/2014 22:44

Welcome tailender Smile

It was busy at our parkrun today big turnout in honour of a volunteer who sadly died at the beginning of the week (some quite aggressive shushing at the start when the man with the megaphone was getting talked over as he explained about said volunteer) I think I did an ok time not sure if it was a PB I died a bit in the 4th k when I saw a friend and tried to run and talk at the same time! How did everyone else do?

cinnamongreyhound · 21/06/2014 10:40

Hi runningwiththetailender, hope your knee support helped.

We had 54 today and I was able to amend the results from last week from dodgy scanning problems. I didn't plan to do much today as I'm still really bunged up but I took little dog and she had other ideas, made a doggy friend and was very annoying so I think I did a sub 27min which is better than I expected!
