Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

i've got no upper body strength either. I don't think i ever will have. And now I've knackered my IT band and trapped a nerve in my back I'm mega pissed off.

Tiredemma · 20/01/2014 10:35

thenightsky- Im determined to carry you around on my back if I have to. Failing that- we will 'leg and a wing' you around. Eau rouge can hold your other side.

EauRouge · 20/01/2014 10:38

No Wolef left behind!

Definitely no wolef left behind! I love strength training (hate and am terrible at cardio). Shred is good to get into it but if fancy a great gym routine it is worth looking at Rachel Cosgrove's book www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1605296937

Her new one hasn't reviewed so well. I like the Stumptuous website and Girls Gone Strong too. Lots of 'bulking up' myth de-bunking.

Rollermum · 20/01/2014 10:48

Sorry: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1605296937

Standingonlego · 20/01/2014 11:07

I have some black asics trail shoes, they are fab - goretex so relatively waterproof and cosy. Had them a couple of years (do not get used much) but they are a bit like this www.ebay.co.uk/bhp/ladies-trail-running-shoes. Definitely make a big difference on rough and sticky ground. I did have to size up though. I think strength training is the challenge...so better dust off the weights and get shredding....

Blatherskite · 20/01/2014 11:32

I have Adidas Kanadia trail shoes too. Definitely agree that sizing is way off though as mine are a 6 and I am a 3 in heels and a 4/5 in trainers usually!

nightsky I knackered my IT band and it turned out that it was my shoes that were the problem. They were Asics Cumulus and on reading up on the internet, I found out that they were notorious for being very short-lasting and sure enough, a trip to the physio, a few new stretches and a new pair of shoes and I haven't had a problem since. Worth a try?

stretch really helped and I do this one straight after a run.
feetheart · 20/01/2014 15:14

Definitely need 'No Wolef left behind!' on the t-shirt :)

Think I need to look at trail shoes don't I? Otherwise I will be tiptoeing through anything yucky squealing about getting my lovely expensive running shoes dirty :)

I've started looking at bootcamps locally - I blame you lot!

beautifulsoup · 20/01/2014 15:28

Hello! May I (cautiously) join your team? I'm 40 in a few weeks, -2.50 in both eyes and just about 5ft 3". I should also add that I'm not very fit but I'm working on that! I've just started C25k, my first attempt at exercising in 18 months (my son is 9 months old).

I live around 5 miles from the Wolf Run site and I've always fancied having a go. I figured I'd start on the running first and then work on the rest. I don't suppose 30 minutes of baby swim a week counts as training for the lake swim…?

EauRouge · 20/01/2014 15:34

beautifulsoup, you've got the exact athletic credentials that we're looking for Grin

Will we have Mumsnet on the team t shirts? Because we'll probably have to ask in case Justine sues us or worse, bans us.

Tiredemma · 20/01/2014 15:37

beautifulsoup
I have included my baby swim classes into my 'fitness regime'.

Tiredemma · 20/01/2014 15:38

I want a t-shirt but equally dont want to be sued or banned.

Blatherskite · 20/01/2014 16:02

I've reported Eau's last post so that we can check with MNHQ if we can use the MN logo :)

beautifulsoup · 20/01/2014 19:54

Fabulous, thank you for the welcome! I did make a point of running through some muddy puddles today and over some quite bumpy bits on the verge so I'm feeling pretty confident I can smash it Grin

thenightsky · 20/01/2014 19:56

Loving your hard training 'over the bumpy bits' Grin

That's the spirit!

EauRouge · 20/01/2014 19:58

You've reported my post! Shock

I got a post deleted once. True story it was a misunderstanding. I'm such a badass.

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 20/01/2014 20:16

In the nicest possible way Eau :)

It's the easiest way of getting a message to MNHQ sometimes.

EauRouge · 20/01/2014 20:48

I know. I don't do anything naughty enough to get reported.

OP posts:
GeekLove · 20/01/2014 22:05

Went to kettlebells and upped the weight to 12 kg. I think tomorrow will be interesting, particularly after the swings.

jellybrain · 20/01/2014 23:29

Beautifulsoup your run sounds like mine though, I would like to add that a leapt heaved myself over a fallen log too Grin

wileycoyote · 21/01/2014 00:17

Eau rouge, I will take the trial shoes off your hands!! Am happy to give you a few quid/postage!

EauRouge · 21/01/2014 08:56

Done! I'll pick all the mud off, that'll reduce the postage cost Grin

I posted on a running forum asking for tips from people that had done it and I got a reply. Basically, lots of trail runs and strength work in your training, wear trail shoes, don't wear a Garmin, and you'd be mad to do it on your own- we'll definitely need to help each other out!

The fella that replied also said about the wading option in the lake, it was waist high on him and he's 6', so we're going to need snorkels or possibly a boat.

Video here, looks fun but challenging!

I saw this today and thought of us.
