Who fancies 10km of mud and obstacles? Come and join Team Wolef

Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

Hello Wolefs! Got something nice to tell you:

I mentioned the Wolf Run to our work bootcamp instructor today - something along the lines of needing to justify the WR entry fee, so I'd be diligent in attending each session - and he said that he would be willing to give us a free training session a month or so before the event. (It's a bit of a quid pro quo - I was nice about him in an interview on local radio!)

The only downside is that this would be in Cambridge. However, I think a few of us are local-ish to that area? Can you let me know if it's doable for you, and I can try to arrange a date?

Fishandjam · 20/05/2014 14:18

PS: we can always repair to a local hostelry for rehydrating and refuelling afterwards.

Fishandjam · 20/05/2014 14:57

PPS: and for those local to Cambs/Northants, what about a training session at the Stanwick Lakes assault course? I know it's mainly for kids but we could always slot a run in as well!

BigfootFiles · 22/05/2014 11:50

I can get to Cambridge easily, so potentially interested in a Wolf Run bootcamp session... Never been to Stanwick Lakes but it looks like good practice! I fear everyone else sounds fitter than me so it will be interesting to see how we all get on. (I am training, honest! Push ups, check. Chin ups, not so much. We have monkey bars down the kids' park I keep embarrassing myself on. But I will master them by September!)

Do you think we should get some of these?

Standingonlego · 23/05/2014 11:11

I have spent many happy hours at Stanick Lakes with DS1&2. However, I have NEVER done the assault course. There is a really nice run around the lakes too (did a 10k there once) so ideal.

I love the ears - a definate YES from me!!!

Fishandjam · 23/05/2014 15:20

Cool, so that's 3 of us at least! EauRouge will probably be in too once her knee gets sorted out.

After bootcamp yesterday my bum is killing me - lots of squats and lunges, exercising the bits I usually only sit on Blush

EauRouge · 23/05/2014 17:39

Yes to the wolf ears and yes to Stanwick and/or Cambridge. Still not been to physio but the insurance company has coughed up so just waiting for the money to clear. The cat died almost a month ago!

This fell off my TIO, but I'm back and also up for a meet-up/training session. I am in Beds, but willing to travel Smile

BellsaRinging · 24/05/2014 06:31

The wolf ears are fab! Are we all getting them? I am a bit worried that you are all much fitter than me, but hoping holiday should sort me out-2 weeks of fitness classes will be a start. I'm not worried about the running-I'll get through that-but the talk of chin ups and the monkey bars would defeat me at the moment.

I would struggle to get to Cambridge for a session :( We're in the midst of trying to move at the moment and every spare minute seemingly has to be devoted to cleaning, clearing or mindlessly staring at properties we can't afford on right move.

Standingonlego · 24/05/2014 16:22

I am trying to do more weights but cannot do a chin up yet. How many of us are there now?13?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/05/2014 10:38

lego - DS1 and a bunch of boys from his school is doing a HM in your neck of the woods the week after the Wolef Run, and has suggested I might join them. I am considering it given that I might still be making my way around the WOLF course by then and wondered whether you might be up for it?

feetheart · 27/05/2014 06:59

Just back from week away so catching up.

I might be able to manage a training trip to Cambridge/Stanwick Lakes, depends on other family commitments and DH's work (and his patience at me disappearing off yet again to do running stuff :))

Love, love, love the ears :o

Upper body strength here - pretty rubbish and needs much work rather than just thinking about it! June is THE month for a lot of things

EauRouge · 29/05/2014 16:32

Should I be giving someone some money? Finally off to the physio next week!

The ears are FAB!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 03/06/2014 19:46

I just had a go at one of my untouched for over a year Jillian Michaels DVDs. I need to do some serious work on my arms Shock Grin

Fishandjam · 03/06/2014 22:02

Speaking of arms, mine are killing me after bootcamp today. Twas brutal. I also skinned my elbow getting into a plank after running

I just hope it's doing the trick!

Zeitgei5t · 09/06/2014 06:38

Hi just came across this thread. Im booked in on the 6th but running on my own, if I rang them and asked to swap to 7th any chance I could join you guys?

feetheart · 09/06/2014 22:47

Oh yes, the more the merrier. There is talk about wolef fleeces though :)

Zeitgei5t · 10/06/2014 06:43

Great! :-) do you have a pack code?

feetheart · 10/06/2014 09:16

Someone does, not sure who though . If you look down the thread it may become clear!

How many wolefs is that now?

Fishandjam · 10/06/2014 13:47

I'll PM you the pack code zeit.

Zeitgei5t · 10/06/2014 18:41

Thank you! Think I've managed to join. [Smile]
Tried a monkey bar today, clearly toddler lifting doesn't give you as much upper body strength as I thought.

Fishandjam · 10/06/2014 22:12

I'm trying to comfort myself with the thought that I don't HAVE to do monkey bars. (Are we really sure there are some? Wolves aren't known for their forelimb/upper body strength either!)

Zeitgei5t · 11/06/2014 08:20

They've had them in the past but I read that previously when people have fallen off the marshals have let them through as long as they do a monkey impression. Now that I think I could nail!

Fishandjam · 11/06/2014 15:19

Quote from the Wolf Run FAQ: "Can I miss an obstacle out? Yes - you can go around any obstacle that really presents an issue. However, the Wolf Run is all about you pushing yourself beyond what you think you can do, and working as a team. People will help you over, under and through all obstacles - don’t be afraid to ask a marshall or a fellow runner for help. You can do more than you think you can."

So I reckon if we arrange a relay team to hold each other round the legs while we swing from the monkey bars, we'll be fine Grin (Have yet to hear of a real wolf going paw to paw along some, but I'm maybe just being pedantic...) I like the idea of a monkey impression as a failsafe!
