Who fancies 10km of mud and obstacles? Come and join Team Wolef

Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

The March edition of Runners World (out now) has a good article on Obstacle races. Quite an eye-opener. There is a photo of monkey bars over deep water, so letting go is not an option! Shock

EauRouge · 25/02/2014 09:49

There's an article in Women's Running about it this month too, must be the season for mud races. I was thinking of doing a 5k one in April as a warm up but it's the same price as the Wolf Run. I need to find a cheaper hobby...

thenightsky, I can at least swim. I cannot do monkey bars.

wileycoyote · 25/02/2014 21:54

Sorry Fishand jam, thought I would report back on my findings as it has made me realsie it is going to need a bit of a lead up to it (for me) training wise!! I'll get some weird looks on the monkey bars in the local park Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/03/2014 21:22

Just marking my place, as this fell off my TIO

MerryBuddha · 02/03/2014 21:40

Can I join??

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/03/2014 22:09

Of course, all are welcome!

Fishandjam · 02/03/2014 22:23

Well, I had a bash at some pseudo-monkey bars today - the pergola in my garden. I fell off between struts 1 and 2 Blush

MerryBuddha · 03/03/2014 04:20

I have absolutely no upper body strenght, so i will need to work on this. I wouldnt be able to make strut 3 either Fishandjam.

feetheart · 03/03/2014 14:45

Zero upper body strength here either and there is a lanky uncoordinated 5'10" to haul up/along as well Hmm
However I did spot Wolf onsies in Primark at the w/e :o

MerryBuddha · 03/03/2014 22:33

Actually thinking of booking a PT for upper body strenght training!!! How embarrassing will it be when I show I can't even do a press up!!! Not even one!!

Fishandjam · 03/03/2014 22:47

I find my upper body strength to be very odd. I can do triceps dips until the cows come home, but a proper press-up (ie not on knees)? Forget it. I've been trying to do them at bootcamp but only manage about 2 (not even going that low).

Mitchy1nge · 03/03/2014 22:52

I can do handstand push ups and a few normal push ups

was recently feeling smug about shoulder pressing 35kgs after a longish gap of no weight training until I saw a 5yo in a documentary lifting 48kg! She was from a family of dedicated heavy lifters though

MerryBuddha · 04/03/2014 22:40

Handstand push ups Wow!!!

Mitchy1nge · 04/03/2014 22:42

not one handed ones

that would be a good party trick

can also scuttle about in the crab position but is possibly not going to be that useful for this event?

EauRouge · 05/03/2014 06:37

I think there's a bit where we have to crawl under stuff. Scuttling would be much quicker.

Have we had final numbers yet? Registration must be soon.

m1thcy, do you mean actually standing on your hands and pushing up while your feet are waving in the air? Shock

Mitchy1nge · 05/03/2014 13:31

yes

I do them ALL the time, is probably why my wrists are fucked! There is almost definitely footage on youtube of me doing it in a stable (soft landing plus wall nearby for balance) but I often 'cheat' by using a wall to stop me from going all the way over

sometimes something snaps in my head during bellydance class and I have to do one or two there

I think I miss gymnastics Confused

just do a handstand and then bend and straighten your arms

Fishandjam · 05/03/2014 14:17

Just do a handstand, she says Hmm

I have never in my life managed a handstand. Or a cartwheel. I barely managed forward rolls Grin

Mitchy1nge · 06/03/2014 10:19

but didn't you do them when you were little? Have never grown out of it, am rubbish at cartwheels now though even with a run up I think partly because once or twice after drinks I've miscalculated the space needed and hurt myself on things

Mitchy1nge · 06/03/2014 10:21

so am a bit more cautious

I look forward to running a pre-race handstand training day somewhere :)

EauRouge · 06/03/2014 10:29

We'll be fine! There's a 4 hr limit and it's only 10k. Has everyone forgotten about the massive slide down the hill? That bit looks ace.

We should definitely organise a few group trail runs.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/03/2014 22:26

yy Eau to some group runs.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/03/2014 22:28

I can do cartwheels and arab springs Smile. I never managed a walkover though.

feetheart · 09/03/2014 11:43

I can juggle - will that help? :)
