Who fancies 10km of mud and obstacles? Come and join Team Wolef

Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

Jelly, Blathers and Bellsa - of course Smile - we just need one more to make a group of five...

Blatherskite · 24/01/2014 18:18

Lego?

Tiredemma · 25/01/2014 10:43

can i come in your group of 5? (unless someone has already asked?)

EauRouge · 25/01/2014 11:10

I am happy to paypal money to someone who wants to sort out the next group of 5. Or I could do it if you can pay the entry fee by paypal.

Emma - you're in!

thenightsky · 25/01/2014 13:15

Bad news, seriously bad news. Fellow Wolefs... I'm having to drop out Sad

I've been told by my physio I'd be 'mad' to even attempt this due to arthritic changes in my spine (neck bit) and shoulders. A trapped nerve could be life changing and I shouldn't risk it. I've lived with this for a good few years, but I've never done any exercise that involved upper body work apart from a bit of swimming. Now is not the time to start apparently (old gimmer).

I veer in feelings between Angry and Sad

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2014 13:18

Oh nightsky that is too bad Sad

Can you still do "normal" running?

thenightsky · 25/01/2014 15:13

Yes, I can do 'normal' running. Thank goodness. I'd go mad if I couldn't!

Standingonlego · 25/01/2014 18:38

Sorry for absence folks, have been offline! I think I am too late for OhOne gang of 5 but happy to start another :)

EauRouge · 25/01/2014 19:07

nightsky, that's awful news :( I'm glad you can still do normal running but you must be really gutted. Can you just wade through a ditch with us to get muddy?

Can I be in your gang, lego?

Hey... I hope to turn up still, in full wolef fleece of course, to hold your coats, cheer you on and give out jelly babies or choccies at the finish!

Standingonlego · 25/01/2014 21:59

nightsky that is totally pants :( We would love your support though 9we are going to need it). Maybe you can have a megaphone to howl through Grin.

EauRouge happy to have you in my gang.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/01/2014 23:12

nightsky that is very noble of you. And you must find a normal 10K for some of us to do with you.

wileycoyote · 26/01/2014 00:06

I'dlike to join your group too lego and eau if you'll have me.
Jelly Not sure what the allergy was - quite possibly smffb! Top theory was maybe somewhat weirdly a keratin shampoo which I have now binned!!

wileycoyote · 26/01/2014 00:06

thenightsky What a bummer - at least you can still run though..

wileycoyote · 26/01/2014 00:07

I hope I'm not allergic to mud!! Grin

OneHandFlapping · 26/01/2014 19:30

Standingonlego, I'd like to come in your group, if you'll have me.

Nightsky, is there no way you can just do the running part and skip the obstacles that would aggravate your spine/shoulder (eg monkey bars)?

It would be nice to have another old gimmer around.

GeekLove · 27/01/2014 16:45

it seems I've jinxed myself as my illness free streak is at an end with my dodgy sinuses. Hopefully I will be at kettlebells on Wednesday.

I recommend though that those of us who are a bit worried about upper body strength get a pull up bar. I plan to work up to a 5-spot by March and once I can do 10 try to do chin ups.

Hope the rest of you can avoid the lurgy.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 27/01/2014 21:48

Can anyone recommend any trail shoes? I run in Saucony Triumphs, but am thinking about investing in something with a bit more tread Grin

EauRouge · 28/01/2014 09:42

What's the sizing like on those? I need to order some new trail shoes. I've heard the sizing comes up a bit small, what size do you think I should order if I need a 7?

I was thinking for those of us that live fairly close together (OhOne, Lego, Blathers, anyone else live near 3 counties/Cambs/Northants?) we could get together for a muddy trail training session before the race, what do you think?

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 28/01/2014 09:44

I have those too. They're cheap so tend to be a good I'm-not-sure-if-I'm-going-to-like-trail-running shoe Wink

Go at least a size up from your normal shoes though as the sizing is way off. Mine are a 6. My road shoes are a 5.

Blatherskite · 28/01/2014 09:45

That sounds like a good idea Eau

Tiredemma · 28/01/2014 10:27

Im a 3 and my Adidas are a 4.5!

EauRouge · 28/01/2014 10:59

I think I'll order an 8 then, my road shoes are a 7. I can't decide what colour to order though Torn between the red and the purple.
