Who fancies 10km of mud and obstacles? Come and join Team Wolef

Quite a few of us are interested in doing the Wolf Run this September so we were thinking of getting a team together.

It's for all abilities, it should be really good fun. It's not timed and it'll be too wet to wear your Garmin, so don't worry if you're not a fast runner. We'll be a team and no Wolef will be left behind.

It's on the 6th & 7th of September just south of Coventry, so fairly central. If we get a team together we get a slightly discounted entry.

If you're interested, post on here and we'll start making a list.

We also need to pick a charity so if everyone wants to suggest their favourite one and then we can argue about it for ages with no firm decision being made.

So, I'm in and my favourite charity is the Birth Trauma Association.

I have pink and grey. Go with the purple- you will be better co-ordinated with me as we crawl run around together.

Mitchy1nge · 28/01/2014 11:20

I feel close enough to Cambs to meet up for a muddy trail training run at some point (when am running again, very soon I think)

Blatherskite · 28/01/2014 11:23

Mine are the same as the ones on the link. Pink/Purple/Grey

feetheart · 28/01/2014 11:53

thenightsky - that's rotten and very noble of you to come and cheer anyway, especially if you have jelly babies :)
Can't remember where you are but there are a number of MNetters signed up for the 10k at Whipsnade Zoo in June - and they have wolefs there!

I'd be up for a trail run even if I do get into GNR - I count as 3 Counties!

Think I need to buy trail shoes.

Standingonlego · 28/01/2014 16:43

Hello - yes def up for a muddy training run, and I am one of the Wolefs at the Whipsnade 10k (blathers too I think).

Standingonlego · 28/01/2014 16:50

Not sure if I have posted this or not...

Round 2 is on Sunday :) I only did the 5k so only had to tackle the muddy hill once - you only see the fast folk on the video so missed the comedy of us normal mortals slipping and sliding around, yelping and giggling.

jellybrain · 29/01/2014 12:11

Running is going ok - went out last night with the dog who enthusiastically dragged me along at a ridiculous speed Grin think I prefer the daytime run when I can go off road and she isn't on a lead!
Has anyone got tips for strengthening the upper body? I have pretty weedy arms and would like to be able to get over at least some of the obstacles.
It's exciting to see the list getting so long.
Oh one - when do you want the money?

jellybrain · 29/01/2014 12:16

Standing on Lego - there's almost as much mud as where I run slide about on my a**e.
Bet it was lots of fun.

Reastie · 30/01/2014 14:53

good to 'see' you. How's tricks?

Also excited to see mitchy - how's the knee?

I clicked on this in interest and might be a little tempted to join in. Are you all very fit though? It's the type of thing I'd never normally do, but maybe I need to try something different. I've not really ran/jogged much before though (but I've got months to train). Erm, how hardcore is this kind of thing? I'm really not up for lake swimming (but I see you can jog around the lake instead) and I don't want mud near my mouth [germ phobe]. I'm really not suited to this am I.......

Reastie · 30/01/2014 14:57

Just realised after my last post....no ones going to want me in their gang after that post are they Blush

Reastie · 30/01/2014 15:03

OK, good grief, have just been looking on you tube clips of this wolf run and, erm, too hardcore for me! Mucho respect to you all but think I will back out .Something a little less brutal and I'd do it. If you know of anything a bit less crazy but still challenging in the South East please let me know. As you were!

EauRouge · 30/01/2014 16:43

Reastie!! It's almost birthday party planning time, can you believe it's 3 years?

Come and join in with the Wolf Run. We are all varying degrees of fitness, from not to not much. It's not that hardcore really, I'm not taking it that seriously. I've never done anything like it before, unless you count falling over at Parkrun once and landing in some mud.

I know eau , my little baby will soon be 3, she's got a preschool settling in session on Monday . I've lost 100lbs since you were on the thread and trying to get fit Grin . FWIW it was of the wholf run which has scared me off Confused

Reastie · 30/01/2014 16:47

wholf? Hmm

EauRouge · 30/01/2014 17:20

Wow, 100lbs! That's incredible, well done. I'm not swimming through the lake, I'm a crap swimmer- I'm doing the wading route instead and I think a few others are.

GeekLove · 31/01/2014 14:16

I recommend looking at some videos on Youtube - the one by teamphx.com is a good one. He recommends doing a dress rehearsal for the swimming route. So if you see someone going to an inland water park in their running kit that will be me.

Warning though, watching helmet cams can give you motion sickness!

Reastie · 31/01/2014 15:06

I really like the sound of the zombie races, now if anyone fancies one of those and doesn't mind running with someone who screams like a girl when surprised I'm up for it :)

EauRouge · 31/01/2014 16:12

There's a 5k one near Cambridge, I thought about it last year but it's pretty expensive. Might be up for it though if I can rustle up the money.

OP posts:
thenightsky · 31/01/2014 19:44

5k zombie run sounds do-able for even an old gimmer like me. And cambridge is just down the A1 (sort of).

thenightsky · 31/01/2014 19:47

Bloody hell Reastie I'm not running with you. I just checked your profile and you are 20+ years younger than me!!!

Reastie · 31/01/2014 19:48

Good grief 50 squid for a zombie run Shock . Better be realistic for that much! Does sound fun though. If there's a group going on it (it's not till October) I'll go if I can justify/afford the cost.

jellybrain · 31/01/2014 20:58

Omg Reastie that video is brilliant it's made me want to go even moreGrin

I think it'll be great especially if we all help each other along the way. Think we will need hot toddies waiting for us at the end for sure!
Reastie you'll be fine and as previously pointed out some of us (I include myself in this) are actually quite old.Wink

Reastie · 01/02/2014 07:30

Are you sayin' I'm old jelly? Wink . I think the zombie run is more my thing Grin (I heart the walking dead and I can imagine I'm running to catch up with Rick in my dreams ). WOlf run is too hardcore for me, but I'd love to see the piccies once you've done it and hear all about it.

Standingonlego · 01/02/2014 18:37

I saw a man in a wolf (winter edition) t shirt at parkrun this morning.

He and his girlfriend (who quickly appeared after some random crazy woman me bounded up to talk to her man Blush) did it recently. They both said it was freezing but was actually easier than a normal 10k as though the obstacles were tough at least you got a chace to get your breath back if you had to queue up. They did in a work team of 10ish and said it was brilliant fun. Both said work on upper body strength to help pull up and over the obstacles like the walls. She was about standard team Wolef height so I think this is good advice.

Getting more excited about this as time goes on, it is a real motivator!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/02/2014 18:48

Ooh lego well done on your intelligence gathering Grin. Blathers and I spotted one last week, but didn't go and talk to him.

jelly and others in my gang - no hurry for the cash, but can you pm me your rl names so that I have them ready for registration?
